Floors - engineered wood

All timber I'm guessing?

Sand, varnish and enjoy for the rest of your days
It's just crappy particle board flooring. I'd love to if it was old timber. Gonna have to go with the engineered stuff. Missus wants to put in really dark grey colour, place will look like a boomer's hairdresser ffs, doing all I can to talk her out of it.

Buy lengths of 6x1 timber from builders/timber yard.
Lay insulation over existing boards and then lay planks over.
Pin through to fix, sand, varnish.

A lifetime of beautiful floor with minimal effort

I put a cheap laminate floor down in the hallway and living room when we bought our house as there was so much more to pay for too as we fully refurbished the whole property..

But now 8 years later I'm looking to replace it as I never really liked it. I would like to do a parquet floor potentially. Anyone done one before or should I go more modern and tile through? 🤔

The house was built 1918 or so...

Grey is all you see now!!

I'm loath to go that route. The missus has mentioned it but it'll look crap in a few years I think!

Convinced her to go with a more natural darker warm brown look. Walls are very light grey/white trim, got to get away from this era of grey, you're right it's all anyone seems to do lately.

You see houses for sale now and every single room is grey.

It's the same outside. Rendered white with grey/black window frames. It'll look dated soon enough.

Agreed 100%! I'm also a firm believer in having material possessions you like, not what society likes, if it doesn't conform or will make the place harder to sell later on, f it who cares, live with what makes you happiest, I feel like too many people these days are keeping up with the neighbours and are worried to express themselves with what they actually like.

We've got Karndean in the kitchen and bathroom.

Looks great. There's loads of styles to choose from. It's quite pricey and also needs to be fitted well (also pricey). Very easy to clean. Also, doesn't feel too cold in winter.

Nothing beats well maintained proper wooden floorboards though.
