I've got an amazing slate floor in our kitchen. The missus hates it but I think it looks superb!! Anyone ever treated or sealed a floor like this before?

Slate is quite easy to maintain and clean/polish.

Simple soap and water on a soft cloth (don't use anything abrasive) will clean it to a good finish.
Then allow to dry/dry with cloths and then seal with Tableau Slate Oil (about a tenner for a 250ml bottle)

Should leave you a beautiful clean shiny floor.

This is my concern for this winter. We have put 150mm celotex and vapour barrier down, but its a big old house and just bloody cold. I can see us putting carpet down at some point
We have wooden floors throughout the downstairs and also in our bedroom. The house is almost exactly 100 years old. It isn't draughty or cold although we do have rugs and killims.

If I am honest, our biggest issue with be the huge old sash windows. I am not sure if the house will ever be warm

What is a killim?

Cheers for that. I'll check the oil out!

The good thing I've found with the slate is that any scratches from chairs etc, tend to dissappear after a couple of days with kids and dirt! lol
