Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

FYLDE DEALT AN EARLY BLOW

Fan favourite and first choice full back Luke Burke will be sidelined for 4 weeks after suffering ankle ligament damage. It is a blow for Ferguson and Fylde but it is an opportunity for 19 year old new signing Sam Gibson to step in and show the team he is worthy of a first team place.

PRE-SEASON RESULTS 2019/20

With all friendlies played, Fylde put in some good performances most notably against Rochdale, Everton and Oldham Athletic. With big wins against lesser opposition, Fylde will be going into the new season high on confidence, playing in a way that sees thorough attacking football and sturdy defensive displays. The media have predicted Fylde to finish 4th this season and take a play-off place. The Non-league football paper caught up with manager Duncan Ferguson.

NLFP: Duncan, this is your second season with Fylde and your second season in management. Are you confident of improving on last season and push for play-offs?

DF: I believe we've improved the squad here and retained some important players who were coming to an end of their contracts. We start the season with a bit more depth in positions we didn't have any last season and the lads have put in some good displays in pre-season.

NLFP: The fans are expectant of success this season, how do you deal with that pressure?

DF: It's not so much pressure, it's great to see that desire from the fans and it's good to have them behind us. Football fans want success and want to compete at a higher level. I don't see why a team like ours can't be playing in the football league.

NLFP: You start the season away against Salford City in 5 days time, are you fully prepared and ready?

DF: Pre-season has been intense, the training regime and the quantity of games has ensured we are at peak condition. I've lost Luke Burke to an month's injury but it was because he went over on his ankle and was totally unfortunate. We have to be at our best not just on Saturday but for the whole campaign. One thing I have learnt is how vigorous the fixture list is and there is a lot of football matches throughout the whole course of the season. It's tough at this level because we don't have the squad depth in comparison to clubs higher up the leagues but I do have a capable squad I feel I can rotate wisely.

NLFP: Duncan, good luck for the season.

C'mon Gibbo lad. Take your chance. Sorry for Burke, he was decent last season, and at 21 is probably at the point where he is ready to make a name for himself.

TRANSFERS 2019/20

With the window staying open throughout the season as opposed to the higher leagues, Fylde have strengthened well with midfielder Paul Paton coming in to replace Jim Kellermann and Ellis Simms on a free tranfer from Everton, who will be looking to Duncan Ferguson, Darren Huckerby and Danny Rowe for guidance. Ferguson has also signed young players for the squad who aren't far away from breaking into the first team but it was a shame to lose Josh Thompson on a free to Chesterfield as the Central Defender played a big part in Fylde's last season play-off push.

Kyle McFarlane signs for Fylde with it being repored as Duncan Ferguson's last signing of the season. The Centre forward comes highly rated and at 22 is a long way off his prime.

"Duncan, you've signed Kyle McFarlane but where does this see young Ellis Simms?

"Ellis is still part of my plans but I believe in healthy competition and over the course of the season we are going to need to rotate."

AUGUST 2019 RESULTS

august 2019.webp

Fylde are off to an almost perfect start in the Vanarama National winning 4 games out of 5 with the other being a draw. Danny Rowe has started the season in magnificent form scoring 5 goals in 5 games. Fylde were beating Hartlepool 2-0 for a large period of the game but they managed to equalise in the 93rd minute with Fylde being unable to see the game out. It was a fantastic display against newly promoted Billericay with two goals from Ryan Croasdale and two from Danny Philliskirk in a very secure performance. Fylde have largely dominated the games so far and an excellent result against FC Halifax saw Danny Rowe topping up his goal tally with two and new on-loan signing Stephen Dooley netting one in the 90th minute; showing great control with his chest before powering into the top right corner.

Next up for Fylde is an away game at Dagenham & Redbridge two days on from the FC Halifax fixture. Manager Duncan Ferguson has protested against such a ridiculous date for the fixture asking for it to be moved to midweek but the FA have decided not to change it. Ferguson must rotate his squad if necessary and ensure players aren't at risk of injury.

august table 2019.webp

It is a great start for Fydle as they sit top of the table at the end of August but must be wary of Tranmere and Bury who have also been in good form this past month.
