Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

FYLDE CONTINUE IMPRESSIVE RUN

SEPTEMBER 19.webp

Fylde brushed aside Dagenham & Redbridge as on-loan winger Stephen Dooley bagged both goals in a game in which he was dubbed 'The Dooley Show'. An impressive performance showed his parent club exactly what they were missing.
Danny Rowe was back on top form as he put 2 great headers past the Torquay keeper within the first 20 minutes. Fylde looked comfortable and the game was eventually signed and sealed when James Hardy scored a great volley after a cross from Denver Hume from the opposite flank.

It was a contrasting performance against Wrexham as the Welsh side were in control for large periods and took the lead in the 14th minute as defender Ogbeta put the ball through Griffith's legs scoring an own goal. Fylde's performance picked up towards the break when Ryan Croasdale scored a rifling shot into the bottom corner from outside the box to take the sides into the break at 1-1. The second half was all about an excellent Fylde defensive display as they blocked, tackled and threw their bodies in front of the ball and fought for a hard earned point.

Duncan Ferguson's Fylde went head to head with recently relegated Tranmere Rovers who were on the back of a 3-1 defeat to Bury. Andy Bond slotted a cool penalty in the 4th minute giving the coasters the lead but Tranmere winger Khoury scored a sensational goal from 20 yards out to equalise before half-time. With Fylde suffering two injuries to midfielers Danny Philliskirk and Kaby, on came new signing Ellis Simms to accompany Danny Rowe up front and it paid off as Rowe kept his fine scoring form going with a glancing header in the 61st minute and then it was 2 goals from Ellis Simms as hewas played through one-on-one and cooly finished into the bottom corner. His second came when midfielder Andy Bond played a long ball forward with Simms using his pace to beat the defence and put himself though against the keeper to which he buried in the bottom corner beautifully. James Norwood pulled a goal back for Tranmere and constantly made a nuisance of himself but eventually time ran out and it was Fylde who came out on top.

Duncan Ferguson rejected an approach to become the new Hartlepool United manager. The Vanarama National outfit approached Ferguson for an interview with the possibility of taking the reigns but it is understood Ferguson is happy at Fylde and still has a job to do.

FRUSTRATION SETS IN AT FYLDE

SEPTEMBER 19.webp

Gateshead took the lead through Sam Smith in the 39th minute but Danny Philiskirk equalised 4 minutes later with a stunning low left footed shot into the back of the net. Midfielder Paul Paton gave the coasters 2-1 lead in the second half and with Fylde dominating possession, saw the game out and could have easily been three or four. The commiserating news of the afternoon came when right winger James Hardy was ruled out for 4-6 weeks with a twisted ankle.

Fylde travelled to Ebbsfleet but were on the end of their first defeat of the season and comfortably lost 4-2. Danny Rowe scored the first goal of the game but Ebbsfleet equalised a minute later and from the on proved to be a difficult afternoon for The Coasters. Ebbsfleet went into the break leading 2-1 but straight from the restart Danny Rowe got his second of the game making it 2-2. Things did not get easier for Fylde and it was goalkeeper Russell Griffiths with a rare off day as he fumbled the ball into his own net after a shot from Billy Knott. Jamie Reckford sealed the points for Ebbsfleet in the 91st minute on an afternoon Fylde would rather forget.

In a match that demanded an immediate reaction, Fylde suffered a hangover as defeat set in against Hereford at Mill Farm. The goal came in the 71st minute in an evenly contested game. It was poor marking from the Fylde central defenders as they stood off striker Terry Gornell allowing him to get the shot away.

Duncan Ferguson was rumoured to have been furious in the dressing room prior to kick-off against Southport and told the players that places were on the line if anyone failed to perform. Joe Cardle heeded that advice and put Fylde 1-0 up after 2 minutes after Ashley Hemmings swung one in from the left wing and Cardle took it under control before smashing it home inside the six yard box. The second came in the 9th when Hemmings once again put a great cross in which was nodded across the box by Joe Cardle and Southport's Kenny Clark intercepted the ball but put it in his own net in the process. At 2-0 it should have been job done but Fylde rested on their laurels and 6 minutes later Southport pulled it back 2-1. Nathanael Ogbeta failed to clear the ball from danger and gave it straight to Elliot Osborne who scored a tremendous right footed curling shot into the top corner. The game finished 2-2 and gave Duncan Ferguson something to think about ahead of the away trip to Bromley. Could we see some changes in defence?

league table after 13.webp

Fylde remain top of the table three points clear of fellow promotion chasers Bury. It seems Fylde had a chance to put some daylight between themselves and Bury but failed to take maximum points with only one win in the last four. Fylde must regain their early season form if they are to be serious promotion contenders this season.
