Colchester United vs AFC Fylde
6th January 2032

Fylde fans were still ecstatic after progressing to the fourth round of the F.A. Cup and an away trip to third place Colchester should spur them on to get a result. It was delight for fans as Richard Macrae was included alongside Morgan Feeney. Kenny McPherson dropped to the bench but has done well when called upon for The Coasters. Vince Bytheway was also back from injury and got a start tonight. John Jones whipped in the free-kick aimed to the far post, Feeney won the header but was denied by the keeper, great leaping header. Jones kept it alive and put it back in Bytheway went for goal but the keeper saved conceding a corner. Henderson took the corner to the near post, Bytheway attempted to knock it home but it was cleared away. Great attacking intent from Fylde early on. Richard Dodd took the goal kick on 8 minutes, it made its way through to Kanu, he held off the defence and evaded the challenge from Macrae, he slotted past Dube to make it 1-0 to the home side. Two minutes later Sang played it long and Kanu got to it to stab it home to make it 2-0. Fylde in a devastating collapse again. Bad news struck again for Fylde on 15 minutes, Euan Henderson was involved in a bas challenge which looked to be a foot injury and was taken off. Joe Donnelly came on and got his chance to show what he can do. Donnelly came close on 19 minutes when he received the ball from John Jones and put it slightly over the bar. Fylde were coming forward, Wilson passed it Uttridge who tried to find Jones on the left but it was cut out by Sang, he ran forward and Jones tried to backtrack, he got it into the box for Elanga and he thumped it into the roof of the net to make it 3-0 to Colchester. Thirty minutes left and it was an all out war on the Fylde goal, Elanga received the pass from Newman and he smashed it past Dube who was rooted to the spot to make it 4-0. Fylde enjoyed a good spell of possession in the last ten minutes and got the ball forward but were unable to make it count in front of goal. Jack Quinn and Joe Donnelly both denied late in the game.

DF: It was a blow back down to earth, Colchester deserved it, they were ruthless up top and they simply destroyed us out there. I'm disappointed, appalled and a lot of work needs to be done to redeem ourselves. Idris Kanu was unplayable today, it didn't bode well for us. Euan Henderson and Josh Ferguson have both picked up injuries which could see them sidelined for about a month.

New signing Richard Macrae dropped to the bench with Kenny McPherson starting alongside Morgan Feeney. Joe Donnelly got a start on the left with Henderson out injured and Jack Quinn led the line once again with Tyrone O'Neill making the bench after his recent injury. Fylde needed the win after a recent run of poor form saw their last league win on 13th December. Wigan and Colchester had climbed above Fylde in the table dropping down to third. Jones played it to Donnelly on 19 minutes who played it central to Wilson, Wilson found space for the shot and struck the post from 25 yards out. 27 minutes gone, Bytheway came forward with space to play in, he got the ball across the box to Donnelly who didn't think twice and struck well with his left foot into the bottom corner! 1-0 to Fylde and Donnelly gets his first goal for his new club! The lead didn't last long when Glenn Kelly turned in a beautifully struck free-kick on 41 minutes to level for the home side. A minute before half-time and Morton took the throw-in aiming for Hutson inside the box, Hutson was having his shirt pulled and the referee pointed to the spot! With Henderson out, Jack Quinn took hold of the ball and fancied himself from 12 yards. On the stroke of half-time he sent the keeper the wrong way and slotted into the bottom corner! 2-1 to Fylde! The ball was played wide to Mark Cann who came down the right, he crossed into the box but it was behind Francis Jones, he managed to get to it and hit the shot on the turn beating Dube to level for Bury. Tyrone O'Neill came on for Jack Quinn with 20 minutes to go. Howells took the corner for Bury, Cann headed at Dube who fumbled it, Cann got there to knock it in and give Bury the lead, the home crowd are ecstatic! It's the third defeat on the run for Fylde who threw this game away in the second half.

AFC Fylde vs Rotherham United
16th January 2032

=Rotherham result.webp

If there was anyone who can get Fylde out of a rut it was Duncan Ferguson, the man who has been there many times before and always turned it around. The only change for Fylde was the inclusion of out of sorts playmaker Declan Marshall. If three points are needed, it is definitely here today or we could see the fans become anxious. Rotherham kicked us off at Mill Farm, May passed to Jordan and he found Graves on the wing, Bytheway came charging in with two feet and took him out with a terrible tackle. 24 seconds gone and Bytheway is shown the red card. It was a terrible challenge and the referee had no choice. Fylde playing the whole game with ten men. John Jones came close with a free-kick striking the top of the post on 20 minutes. The first half came to a close and it was still 0-0. Christian Hutson came on for Tyrone O'Neill who was having a poor game up top. Sean Jones came on for Marshall with 20 minutes to go and played on the right wing. It was hard to see where the next goal was coming from but Rotherham came forward down the left with minutes to go, Graves got to the edge of the box who passed it to Murphy, he tried the cross and Feeney cleared, Pugh took control and had a dig on his left foot but put it high and wide. The game played out and it was a point apiece. A 0-0 draw could be seen as a good point for the ten men of Fylde but Rotherham were quite poor and Fylde should have done better.

DF: I'll be having words with Vince, it was an awful challenge and he put his team in a vulnerable position.

=Mansfield result.webp

Tuesday night football at Mill Farm saw the visit of mid-table Mansfield. Ferguson made a few changes giving Feeney and Morton a rest and bringing in Macrae and Stockbridge. Sean Jones played on the right with Vince Bytheway suspended. Mansfield were the better team in the first half by a country mile and Fylde could only thank their poor finishing for the scoreline staying at 0-0. Jones played it to McKimm-Forster, he played it on to Hutson and he came forward with the ball, Hutson played it sideways to Wilson who tried the shot first time but he skied it over the bar. 17 year old Sean Jones brought the ball forward slowly and crossed into the box from deep to find the head of Jack Quinn but he headed into the hands of the keeper. 63 minutes on the clock and Fylde couldn't see where their next goal was coming from, John Jones had the chance from the free-kick 20 yards out and he sailed it into the bottom left corner! 1-0 to The Coasters! Four minutes later John Jones sent the free-kick into the box, McPherson was pulled down and the referee gave the penalty! Jack Quinn stepped up and wanted to get another one from the spot. He went right and the keeper guess right! He kept it out and it's still 1-0. The missed penalty could prover costly as Swann found Fraser inside the box and he made it 1-1 with 15 minutes to go. Mansfield's Clive Fearn got the ball out wide, he looked for O'Sullivan in the box and O'Sullivan powered the header past Dube, it's 2-1 to Mansfield. Fylde cannot believe it. The crowd were not happy and made their feelings known at the full-time whistle. Fylde have not won in seven league games.

DF: It was a dire second half, the penalty miss and then conceding two goals. We didn't have the fight in us to even get an equaliser. I'm disappointed. We have lost our league position and are now fighting for play-offs.

F.A. Cup Fourth Round

=Blackburn result.webp

It was a massive day for Fylde and they were the choice of TV game for the 12:30 kick off. It is good exposure for the club and would be even better if they could beat the Premiership side and advance to the Fifth round for the first time in their history. Richard Macrae was cup tied and Sean Jones was ineligible to play against his parent club. Vince Bytheway was supposed to be back after serving his suspension but the F.A decided to extend it by a further two matches. Duncan Ferguson was disappointed with this decision the day before the game and openly admitted he appealed the ban. Despite the recent poor form for Fylde, the crowd were in fine voice ahead of this massive game for the club. O'Neill played it wide to Victor Oto'o on 20 minutes and he ran forward to the roar of the home crowd, he ran down a blind alley and was forced to play it backwards. Fylde were playing well, Stockbridge sent the ball long for O'Neill and he got goal side, Larsson put in an excellent tackle and played it wide to Grant and the roar went up when McKimm-Forster executed a great tackle. O'Neill won the second ball and knocked it back to Wilson on 65 minutes, he played it back to McPherson and he pumped it forward but the defence took control, the game was hard for Fylde without the threat of Henderson and Bytheway getting in the faces of the defenders. Jack Quinn was brought on with 20 minutes to go replacing Joe Donnelly. Blackburn pressed forward on 81 minutes, the ball was played to Oakley-Boothe outside the area and he hit a low shot in the pouring rain and the ball slid into the bottom corner. Blackburn with the lead. Three minutes later Fylde had to come out, Jones played it to Declan Marshall and he knocked it on for Jordan Wilson, he took the ball on his right foot and belted it into the net from 18 yards! Fylde pulled level with 6 minutes to go! A brilliant response from The Coasters! Blackburn were piling on the pressure in the final few minutes and Dube pulled off a fantastic double save! Wilson picked the loose ball up and ran forward, he got it wide to Oto'o who tried the cross but it was blocked. Morton took the throw and Marshall played it to Oto'o, he tried the cross again and it was deflected behind for a corner, the crowd roared with 30 seconds to go. John Jones crossed in but it ran past the box and O'Neill chased it down, he passed back to McPherson on the edge of the box and the referee blew for full-time to the disappointment of the home support but Fylde have earned a draw and will play a replay at Ewood Park.

DF: We played brilliantly and reacted well to equalise so late in the game. To do that against a Premier League side shows how far this club has come. We can certainly get a result in the replay if we play like we did today.

Victor Oto'o.webp

Victor Oto'o has decided to leave Fylde and join League One rivals Wigan Athletic. The winger was second choice to Bytheway and was not content with the amount of games he was starting.
DF: I wish Victor well, not too well as he is playing for a direct rival but I can't stand in his way if the player wants more football. Bytheway is my first choice currently and I was hoping Victor was up for the competition but his heart was set on a move and I had to accept that.

Ferguson stated in his pre-match interview there was no need for panic and all teams will have slips in this league due to the competitiveness of the division. He was confident of a strong finish to the season and with Josh Ferguson and Euan Henderson due to come back from recent injuries, their fortunes could soon change. It was a defensive set-up for the trip to Swindon, a three man midfield of Uttridge, McKimm-Forster and Wilson with Joe Donnelly and Sean Jones on the wings supporting Tyrone O'Neill. Joe Donnelly lasted 12 minutes when he complained of a tight calf and was replaced by Christian Hutson. It was one way traffic in the first 30 minutes as Swindon were knocking on the door but unable to find the breakthrough, Fylde were defending well but had no attacking outlet. Declan Marshall replaced Ellis McKimm-Forster at half-time and Fylde looked to set up more attacking. It was on 72 minutes when Joe Yates found Adam Lancaster who then beat Dube at the near post with a low finish. Swindon deserving their lead as they have been the dominant team in this fixture. Fylde tried to find an equaliser put poor finishing cost them with Marshall firing over to the disgust of his colleagues and John Jones' last minute free kick hitting the wall to the delight of the home fans.
DF: Our form is the worst in the league at present and it needs resolving. I have a team that are affected mentally by the recent run of results and it is going to take something special to turn this around.

Fylde's league form was in free fall and they appeared to be struggling to say the least. The positive news was the return of Euan Henderson and Vince Bytheway to the starting lineup who they have sorely missed over recent weeks. Fylde had a chance of progressing to the fifth round of the F.A Cup which would be monumental for the club but it seemed Ferguson had other priorities and focusing on the league was top of that list. Uttridge passed to Bytheway on 10 minutes and he played a great through ball for Tyrone O'Neill in the area, he got the shot away and the keeper saved. 21 minutes and John Jones took the throw to O'Neill, he held it up well and passed to Uttridge, he then played it to Wilson on the outside of the box and he curled it round the defence to make it 1-0! What a strike and Fylde go one up at Ewood Park! On the stroke of half time, Henderson played it down the line for Jones, he crossed into the box and O'Neill had a great chance for 2-0 but the keeper tipped it over at close range. Fylde were defending very well and Blackburn were not getting shots on target, Dube was playing well and Wilson was dictating the midfield. With ten minutes to go Blackburn lobbed the ball into the box, Atangana waited for it to come down and headed across the box, Bowen was at the far post and he slid in to knock it home to level the score. Donnelly came on for Henderson who was tiring since returning from injury and tried a long range shot in the last minute but the keeper held the ball. The whistle was blown and the match entered extra time. Jordan Wilson was having a fantastic game but was subbed in extra time due to fatigue being replaced by Josh Ferguson. Blackburn were unable to break down a sturdy Fylde defence and the character shown by Fylde in this tie was remarkable. Seconds remain in extra time and Bytheway played it to Josh Ferguson, the ball was intercepted by Bowen who ran down the right wing but Uttridge got across and executed a great tackle. The whistle was blown and the match was to be decided on penalties. Blackburn were kicking first and Atangana was up against Dube, it was a weak penalty and Dube saved it with ease! John Jones had the chance to give Fylde the advantage, he went right and Woozley pushed it away! A great chance missed! Northmore took the nexty kick choosing to go left and Dube got across to push it away! Brilliant performance today from Dube. Tyrone O'Neill had the chance to put Fylde in front, Tyrone buried it into the right side of the net with the keeper not moving. Svanberg took Blackburn's third kick and put it into the back of the net to make it 1-1. Vince Bytheway with the chance to make it 2-1 and he does it so calmly! Brilliant penalty! Bennett took the walk up for Blackburn's fourth kick, he went down the middle and Dube saved! Uttridge had the chance to make himself a hero and get the win for Fylde with the fourth kick. He stepped up nervously and the crowd were booing, Uttridge hit it down the middle, the keeper got a hand to it but it wasn't enough to stop it! Fylde have beaten Premiership side Blackburn Rovers and advance to the F.A Cup Fifth round! What drama! What excitement for The Coasters!

DF: What a characteristic performance and battle we put on out there! We played to frustrate Blackburn and done excellent to score like we did, the equaliser came but it was to be expected against a top side. We carried on and got through extra time unscathed. Dube was fantastic, he gets my man of the match today, he was composed in the shootout and deserves all the plaudits. We are hoping this result can push us on in the league, it's a much needed win and we need to take this confidence into the away game at MK Dons this weekend.
