AFC Fylde vs Charlton Athletic

It was Euan Henderson's 400th league appearance for Fylde and what a player he has been since making his debut against Harrogate in 2023. Tyrone O'Neill suffered a late injury in training and was unavailable for selection. Ferguson went with the same side with Russell Carey hoping to get on the scoresheet for the fourth league game in a row. It was a quiet opening and on 28 minutes, Vince Bytheway seemed to have pulled his hamstring. He was replaced by Darren Morris. Hopefully it isn't a serious injury to rule him out coming into the busy festive period. Wilson played it to Henderson who took a touch on his right foot and directed it right into the top left corner, a magical strike from the wizard! Fylde came forward with Wilson who played it to Henderson but he was tackled, Marshall retrieved it and played it back to Wilson, he played it wide for the run of John Jones down the left who sent a looping cross into the box and Darren Morris won the header lobbing the keeper and making it 2-0! Fylde defended very well, Whitehead-Davies was dominant in the air and Dube made some great saves. Fylde hit Charlton on the counter attack, it was played wide to Morris who played it long into the box for Henderson who tapped it home to make it 3-0! Charlton got the ball into the box on a number of occasions but Dube and his defence were on top form and helped Fylde keep a clean sheet.

DF: I can't praise Hendo enough, he made his 400th league appearance and capped it of with two goals, one of which was a rocket. He has been magnificent and is the utmost professional. It was the only good thing Joey Barton did for this club!

AFC Fylde vs Grimsby Town

ELF Trophy Second Round

=Grimsby result.webp

Fylde were into the knockout stages and League Two Grimsby stood in their way. Joe Donnelly got the nod on the left and Jack Quinn started up front for Fylde. John Jones was struck down with a virus and was out of the squad until recovered, Greg Taylor came in at left back. Joe Donnelly won the ball from Taylor's goal kick and fed it through to Jack Quinn who took the shot first time and struck the face of the post and seconds later after McKimm-Forster played it to Morris, he struck the post from 25 yards. Unlucky for Fylde. It looks as though Ferguson has instructed Greg Taylor to stay back at all times, the 35 year old doesn't have the legs to get up and down the line. Colm Goode came on for Jack Quinn on the 55th minute. Can the striker get his first goal for Fylde? Long had the beating of Stockbridge down the left and he crossed into the box, Gibson cleared but it bobbled out to Frighi whose bobbled shot managed to deceive everyone and go in, 1-0 to Grimsby. Fylde kicked on after conceding and Stockbridge played a beautiful cross for Joe Donnelly who volleyed from close range and skied it over the bar. In truth it was a terrible performance from Fylde despite having most of the ball, there was no cohesion on the pitch and Fylde crash out of the EFL Trophy in the second round.

AFC Fylde vs Sunderland

=Sunderland result.webp

With the January transfer window just around the corner, the future of left back John Jones was the talk around Fylde as the young left back was the target of Brentford and Reading in The Championship. Jones has a minimum fee release clause in his contract of £2.7M. Joe Donnelly was also linked with a move back to Scotland as his time in England hadn't gone quite as he planned so far, unable to dislodge Euan Henderson from the starting lineup. It was a big match for Fylde with three points separating them from Sunderland in 2nd. The best chance came in the first half for Sunderland when Morton tried to take down the Sunderland goal kick but Godbold nipped in and took it from him, he was one on one with Dube and put it wide to the amusement of the Fylde supporters. It was a quiet affair and with very little action it was a chance for Colm Goode to try and make a name for himself in the last 15 minutes. A few minutes remained, Uttridge played the free-kick into the box and the perfect chance fell to Morton but he tested the keeper who put it behind for a corner. It finished 0-0 and Fylde were unable to recreate their emphatic 3-0 win over Sunderland earlier this season.

AFC Wimbledon vs AFC Fylde

=Wimbledon result.webp

The Christmas festivities were over and it was back to league action. The Coasters were in a good league position at this stage of the season and would need to be picking up all points against fellow rivals Wimbledon to have a chance of promotion. John Jones was still not back from his illness which allowed Steve Stockbridge the chance to play at left back this afternoon. It was good attacking football from Wimbledon that allowed them to overload Fylde on 13 minutes and Proctor got the ball across to May who headed to beat Dube who was wrong footed, 1-0 to the home team. Morton got down the right and Wilson found him with a great ball, in space he crossed to the far post for Henderson to try his luck but it was saved, Henderson got to the rebound, steadied himself and kept it low burying it into the far corner, 1-1! Nice finish from Henderson! There is no better player in this division who can pull away from his marker like he can! A few minutes later, Evans latched on to the long ball forward and only had Dube to beat but he stayed big and stopped the shot from close range, great save. The corner was played into the box for the tall May who went up for the header but Uttridge had hands all over him, the referee gave the penalty. Evans against Dube, can Dube deny him again? No, he slotted down the middle and put Wimbledon 2-1 up. 86 minutes on the clock, Morton played it forward into the area and Carey got onto it, he struck it hard against the bar, unlucky for the striker. Henderson played a one-two with Wilson and then bombed forward down the left, he crossed for the head of Carey but he headed wide. It's all over in South London and it's Russell Carey who may have felt he should have rescued a point here for Fylde.

DF: It's tough to lose, we gave it everything in the second half, Carey will get there, I have every faith in him. We play Bury in two days tine, we need to ensure our heads are up for that one.

AFC Fylde vs Bury
28th December 2032

=Bury result.webp

Assistant Manager Nick Haycock took this pre-match press conference and stated it was a "must-win" match if Fylde wanted to achieve their aspirations this season and results like this should be matches in which the team should be out of sight. There was a couple of changes with it being two days since their last match, Wisdom and McKimm-Forster lined up in the midfield but it was still a strong team selection from Duncan Ferguson with John Jones back from his illness. Jones got a rousing reception when he went over to take the corner on 27 minutes, he found Gibson at the back post but he was unable to convert the chance. Seconds later Mark Cann managed to get the cross into the box for Matt Lewis and he gave Bury the lead with a tidy finish. Jones took the corner on 38 minutes, Gibson knocked it down for Mick Wisdom to thrash it home and get his first goal since rejoining the club! What a hit! A well worked set piece! Mark Cann got injured just before the end of the half and ex Fylde striker Sam Allaway came on with a warm applause from the home fans. John Jones was making a difference and when McKimm-Forster found him down the left he powered his way into the area beating the defender and getting the cross in for Bytheway who tried to slot it past the keeper but it came to Nicholas Summers in defence and he put it into his own net, 2-1 to Fylde! After being on the pitch for less than 20 minutes, Sam Allaway was substituted and the striker didn't look happy. John Jones was exceptional on his return and gave Bury a day to remember down that left side. He put in a great corner in stoppage time finding Macrae who flicked it on for Whitehead-Davis who put it into the back of the net but the flag was raised for offside.

DF: It's nice to come back from a goal down and take all three points today. We're only four points off second now and will look to fight all the way until the end of the season.

AFC Fylde vs Sheffield United
F.A Cup Third Round
1st January 2033

=Sheff Utd result.webp

The new year started with the third round of the F.A Cup. Fylde had an advantageous tie over Championship strugglers Sheffield United but will be hoping to impress new manager Saul and build on their win over Sheffield Wednesday a few days earlier. Cody Aquart was a player on Ferguson's radar and on 16 minutes you just cannot allow him the space as he curled the ball into the top corner to give Sheffield United the lead. Wilson played it to Marshall on 27 minutes, he skipped past his marker and played it into the feet of Henderson who held it up well on the edge of the box, Henderson played a nice ball into the path of Carey who struck it first time into the top left corner, 1-1! What a strike! Henderson drew the defender and allowed Carey to pull away into space. Fylde won a free kick on the edge of the box and Carey fancied it, he curled it over the wall and against the post, great effort. Duncan Ferguson had a quick word with Vince Bytheway and it must have done the trick, as the winger turned his poor performance around when Henderson managed to get the cross into the crowded box and Bytheway rose the highest to head it down and into the bottom corner, 2-1 to Fylde! The comeback kings strike again! 12 minutes to go and Fylde had a free-kick near the half way line, Jones pumped it into the box but it was headed away, Henderson got up and headed back into the box, Carey turned and managed to strike it into the bottom corner, 3-1! That surely must be it! Fourth Round here they come! Euan Henderson's number went up on 84 minutes and the whole stadium erupted for their legend. Colm Goode came on for the remaining 6 minutes. The fans were in great voice and it was a great win for Fylde seeing off Sheffield United this afternoon!

DF: It's days like today when I'm proud to be a Coaster! We were fantastic and come back once again brilliantly. I'm not saying we are going to reach the Semi-final again but we are now into the fourth round and I said it last season, we can beat anyone at Mill Farm.

Ferguson is joined by Euan Henderson

DF: Euan was brilliant today, he's been our best player this season and he's showing no signs of slowing down.

Euan, into the fourth round and it was a great performance from you today.

EH: Yeah, exactly and we keep going in the cup. It's brilliant really to see, I love playing for this football club and want to finish my career here. The gaffer is my biggest inspiration and I hope to follow in his footsteps one day.

JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW OPENS

Speculation will mount around the future of John Jones this month and Brentford seem favourite to sign the left back. Ferguson was asked whether Jones would be offered a bumper deal to stay with Fylde but the suggestion was that there was no budget to offer Jones a better contract than his current £7k a week deal.

@cronullasharks sooner you accept Hendo is going to the Fylde hall of fame the better.

It was Euan Henderson's 400th league appearance for Fylde and what a player he has been since making his debut against Harrogate in 2023.
Nice finish from Henderson! There is no better player in this division who can pull away from his marker like he can!

Allaway is a mere skid mark in Fylde history and is not fit to lace Hendos‘ boots.
