Fleetwood Town vs AFC Fylde

Declan Marshall was enjoying a rare run in the team and since joining the club from Nottingham Forest in 2029 he hadn't really set the world alight. With his contract expiring in the summer, it may be difficult to offer the 28 year old an extension with being one of the top earners at the club. If Fylde managed to pick up the three points they could leapfrog Fleetwood and continue their recent run of good form. Russell Carey almost got on the scoresheet when he latched onto Jones' cross on 20 minutes with a good header that had the keeper scrambling. It was all Fylde in the first half but they just could not find the opening goal. Declan Marshall intercepted the throw on 69 minutes inside the Fleetwood half and quickly played it across the box for Henderson who kept his shot low driving it into the back of the net! His 9th goal of the season! Fleetwood worked the ball into the Fylde area and Whitehead-Davies made a great challenge but he stayed down, Wilson pumped it forward for Euan Henderson who ran down the left and crossed into the box for Russell Carey to volley past the keeper to make it 2-0! Whitehead-Davies was hurt and Sam Gibson replaced him on 72 minutes. He has been brilliant for Fylde since being called upon. Novody expected Fylde to win today but they've pleased their supporters and have climbed the table into 4th.

DF: The team are playing well again, quite pleased with how we defended and Fleetwood made it hard for us in the first half. I was happy with how we reacted in the second and boxed them in to get that first goal by pressing them and taking advantage. The injury to Whitehead-Davies is not as bads as we thought and he should be fit for Gillingham this weekend.

Gillingham vs AFC Fylde

The match was chosen for live TV coverage and Fylde were looking to continue their run of good form. Richard Macrae was missing for this match and Sam Gibson lined up with Whitehead-Davies. Longest serving player Morgan Feeney was on the bench. It didn't take long for the first goal and it started with Euan Henderson when he played his corner short to Sam Gibson and he knocked it on to Declan Marshall outside the box who drilled it into the bottom corner! Fylde were playing with confidence and knocking the ball around nicely but rarely getting anywhere with it. Gillingham were trying shots from range in the wet conditions. With ten minutes to go, Gillingham made all three substitutions going with two strikers to try and get back into the match. John Jones picked up the ball after Uttridge's tackle, he played it down the line for Henderson who set off on a run cutting inside, his final ball into the box was cut out and Gillingham were allowed to come forward. Fylde won it back and Henderson played it to Wilson who got it wide for Bytheway, he crossed first time but it was cleared, Uttridge got his foot around it and volleyed towards goal but it sailed over. Mick Wisdom replaced Wilson and almost got his first Fylde goal since returning but it was straight at the keeper. Marshall picked up the ball from the Gillingham counter attack and played it forward for the big Carey up top, he took it down well, got it on his left foot and went for the bottom corner but the keeper made a good save. Feeney came on with a few minutes to go for Whitehead-Davies to help see the game out. Feeney ushered the defence and done well in the few minutes he was on helping to secure the victory for Fylde as they go in the hat for the third round!

Duncan, have we seen the best of Euan Henderson?

DF: Not at all, Hendo is still a quality footballer, he's 32 and still has a few years left in him. He's got 9 goals in all competitions this season and I know how determined he is to break Danny Rowe's record. We spoke about it this week and I think he needs another 30 to get to 203 set by Danny. I have full confidence of him doing it.

AFC Fylde vs Cardiff City
4th December 2032

=Cardiff result.webp

Possibly the toughest test of the season to recently relegated Cardiff City but Fylde will be hoping to beat them on their own turf this afternoon. Fylde looked to be frustrating Cardiff in the opening 15 minutes and seemed to be slowing the game down to the frustration of the home support. Thompson put the cross in the box and Morton missed the header, it fell to Burrell who put it back in and Davies' header went in off the post, 1-0 to the visitors on 30 minutes. Fylde get the ball forward on 43 minutes, Wilson played it to Bytheway and he knocked it forward for Carey who showed a deft touch passing to Henderson, Henderson broke forward beating two defenders, the crowd rose to their feet, he crossed but it was blocked and got the second ball under control, he managed to get the cross in and found Carey with the header to level! 1-1! Two minutes into the second half, Marshall cut out the Cardiff throw and got into the area, he tried a curling shot on his right foot but it was blocked, it fell to Bytheway but he blazed over. An encouraging start to the second half. The second half played out with Fylde being the much better team but were unfortunate in front of goal. They done well to earn the point and their unbeaten run continues.

LEAGUE TABLE

League table after 22.webp

As we approach the half way stage of the season, Fylde are currently 4th on 38 points, 6 points adrift of Preston who have been in exceptional form this season. It is a tightly fought contest with so many twists and turns still to come in the second half of the season. Preston and Sunderland could potentially increase their lead over the teams below and battle it out for the title. Sunderland will be eager to return to The Championship after coming straight back down in 2029. John Jones was one of the best players in the league this season and Patrick Uttridge was currently the best at tackling. Euan Henderson was Fylde's leading scorer with 8 goals to his name.
