Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

ZARAGOZA SUPPORTERS GIVE FERGUSON VERDICT

Many supporters were interviewed outside the stadium before the clubs 2-1 win over Oviedo. The supporters never engaged with Ferguson or his footballing methods and style of play claiming that the 65 year old was trying to flog a dead horse and his tactics were outdated. His stubbornness with his favoured 4-2-1 system where he demanded the ball to be worked down the flanks did not work in Spain and his side were often caught out on counter attacks. In the end they had given up on the unknown Scot and believed Ferguson would never achieve the goal of returning Los Blanquillos to top flight football. He failed to get the best out of young players like Xavier Alvarado eventually selling him and could not strike a chord with the players mainly due to the language barrier and cultural differences. Chus Abadias was the latest player to give up on Ferguson when he openly stated on his instagram page that he was often left frustrated with how the manager failed to hold on to a lead. What once worked in the 2020's seems to be a different matter in the 2030's. Football has moved on and many young coaches are coming in with new modern ways to improve the game. It's not how Ferguson envisaged his last years in football.

His stubbornness with his favoured 4-2-1 system. Now I'm no big oil when it comes to tactics but starting games with 8 players, whilst daring and somewhat revolutionary may not endear the manager to the fans.

Sad but true.
