Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

The only thing that might cheer me up is reading that Ward has been run over by a bus as he was trying to prise a superglued 50 pence piece off the ground.

Eyewitness say that he wasn't even on the road but the driver could tell he was a massive greedy tw@ so swerved into him.

It's a big moment for 37 year old Euan Henderson as he takes his first managerial job since retiring from playing in 2036. The former Left Winger who is renowned as a legend for AFC Fylde has been given the opportunity to manage in the Northern Ireland Premiership taking over last season's Bluefin Sports Championship winners Dollingstown F.C

EH: I'm very pleased, it's an honour to get my first managers job in football. I met with Mr. Kelly (Wesley Kelly, Chairman) during June and we discussed plans for the football club. It's a small job, so far it's just myself and the chairman here. We have no coaching team as of yet and we are looking to grow the club together. The plans are for us to keep the club up first and foremost and build from there. I am a young manager and I have no managerial experience and the chairman is fully appreciative of that. I have an eagerness to learn and have a way that I would like to see the team play football. I'm due to meet the players shortly, it's good for them to see an end to the uncertainty and we can start planning for the forthcoming friendlies. I'm excited to get started and I really can't wait for the challenge ahead.

Duncan Ferguson Dollingstown.webp

It has come as a surprise to many, Duncan Ferguson has agreed to become Euan Henderson's number 2 at the club! This is groundbreaking news for the club and the community. A manager with a vast playing and managerial career taking the steps to support one his former player and friend as he takes his first steps into club management. We caught up with Ferguson as we was introduced to the club.

Duncan, nobody can believe what they are seeing, a semi-professional football club with you as their Assistant Manager, why?

DF: Euan has been in constant conversation with myself and when he mentioned he was taking on the job, he bluntly asked me if I fancied supporting him. I had a think about it with my family and we discussed about moving over to Northern Ireland in our later years. I love the game and being out of it these last few months has been quite difficult. I'm happy to get back into it but more on a part-time basis and to support Euan and the team in training and on matchdays, it will help him getting to grips with the early stages of management and to be part of a footballing community here in Northern Ireland. I'm 65 but I'm still fit and in great health, I'm as active as ever! I don't think age can be used against you when doing something you love but I'll leave the main jobs to Euan to take care of. It's his name on the manager's door and we will respect how he wants to manage the team.

Euan, you've pulled off a coup here bringing Duncan in as your number 2.

EH: Yeah! I just came out with it over the phone one night and I was actually surprised he took me up on it! I've got huge respect for Duncan, he was my gaffer for many many years and he got the best out of me as a player. I would have been foolish to not ask the question. We're not here for a holiday, we're here to work and we know together we can be a top team. Together we can thrive and Dollingswood will reap the benefits of the two of us working together.

It's like a weird dream.
