Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

HENDERSON TAKES CHARGE!

AFC Fylde vs Peterborough United
EFL Trophy Group Stage
5th October 2038

=Peterborough result.webp

He only sealed the deal just 24 hours ago but he will be in the dugout of the club he holds dearly in his heart. All the talk around Fylde has been about the return of Euan Henderson and ahead of kick off a banner was unfearled that read "He played with honour, he played with pride, Euan Henderson - The King of Fylde". It was a moment to behold when Euan's name was read out before kick off and he emerged onto the pitch to wave to the packed crowd in attendance. Shouts for Duncan Ferguson were also echoed around Mill Farm as the legendary manager waved to the supporters. Henderson was still learning about his squad but seemed to favour a strong side. Jason Breacker continued in goal with a back four of Hakeem, Jordan, Barrett and Brooks. Milby and Carey were the midfielders and Kennerdale and Bytheway operated on the flanks. Jaheel Hamm got his first start of the season behind 21 year old Striker Grant Thomas. Hamm was looking for the opening on 2 minutes, played in Bytheway but his shot was straight into the keeper. Bytheway broke forward on 24 minutes and played it to Thomas down the right, he set up Kennerdale who caught it on the volley but put it over the bar. Fylde moved the ball around nicely, just like we are used to seeing. Fylde fans were awaiting the breakthrough but it just wasn't coming. Jack Warden got the ball to Cummings who turned past Barrett and put Peterborough 1-0 up on 54 minutes. Lewis Harrison came on up front for Grant Thomas. Bytheway took control of the ball inside the Peterborough half and passed it to Hamm to architect an attack, he passed to Miltby who played in Kennerdale on the left who struck from 20 yards to get his first goal of the season and the first goal under the Henderson era! A goal Henderson would be proud of from his left winger! The 90 minutes were over and with any draw in the EFL Trophy, penalties will settle the game. It was Vince Bytheway to take the first penalty and he didn't disappoint slotting low to the keepers right. McAuley sent Breacker the wrong way to level. Milby took the second kick for The Coasters and made it 2-1. Breacker could have done better with the Peterborough penalty as he got hands to Porritt's kick but couldn't stop it going in. Kayne Nurse took the third kick for Fylde sending it in hard and low! Quinn tried to bury the third kick but Breacker palmed it away! Hakeem scored the fourth for Fylde putting into the top corner. Cummings kept Peterborough in the shootout sending Breacker the wrong way but it's all on Fylde with their fifth kick. Carey kept his cool and beat the keeper to win it for Fylde! A win for Henderson on his managerial debut!

EH: The win keeps us top of the group but the performance needed to be better. We passed it around nicely but we just couldn't get behind their back line. Kennerdale's strike was a beauty and if he can cut it more often and do that we'll get a lot of goals out of him. We're pleased to get off to a good start but the real work starts when we come up against Fleetwood this weekend.

Fleetwood Town vs AFC Fylde
9th October 2038

=Fleetwood result.webp

It was the first league game in management with Fylde for Euan Henderson and a trip to local rivals Fleetwood who were also struggling in the league under manager Ben Gibson. With Blackpool having been out of the picture for since their relegation to non-league in 2023, Fleetwood have became a closer rival over the last ten years. Henderson made a change to the side that beat Peterborough replacing Bytheway with on loan winger Harrison. Francis Johnson came into midfield for Dan Carey who was on International duty with Wales U21's. It was a vibrant start from Fylde playing under their new leadership and shirts were up for grabs with players being committed in the tackle. Barrett was playing well in defence winning the aerial balls as the crosses from Fleetwood were being pinged into the box. Both sides went in at the break at 0-0 and it was Fleetwood straight out and into Fylde but defensively they were on top. Breacker was called upon and made good saves to keep the match level. Vince Bytheway came on for Lewis Harrison and had an instant impact when he ran down the right with the ball, passed back to Milby, Brooks took it and laid it forward to Bytheway who played it over the defence and Grant Thomas volleyed into the back of the net! With ten minutes to go Fylde had to keep their heads, Haslam went past Johnson, hit the shot from outside the box and Breacker turned it away. Andrews took the corner, Pickering headed against the bar but Andrew Jolley was there to equalise, the former Fylde defender haunts his old club! Ben Gibson was buoyed by the goal and was pushing his team forward but it was up to Fylde to stay focused. Five minutes added time passed and both teams earned a draw. Henderson's first league game back ends with a point.

EH: We started really well, unlucky not to get an early goal and we done well defensively to keep Fleetwood out. They're a team with a bit of resurgence and will climb the table, I think we done well today to get a point despite not being able to hold on to it.

There was only one change and it was Vince Bytheway back in the starting lineup for Lewis Harrison. Henderson put the pressure on his side when he state that the home games are where the team need to get points so it was an attacking start from Fylde at Mill Farm. MK Dons caught Fylde out when space opened up for Terry Molyneux played a through ball through the defence and Robbie Rae wrongfooted Breacker to make it 1-0. Hamm took the free-kick and crossed it into the box, Anthony Barrett got up for the header and knocked it into the top corner on 7 minutes! Fylde hit straight back! Milby got the ball out wide to Johnson, he had time to get the cross in but couldn't beat Kay. Harrison came on for Hamm with just over 20 minutes to go. There was nothing to get excited about in this one as the game grinds to a halt and it's a point for Fylde moving them into 16th, four points above the drop zone.

Chesterfield vs AFC Fylde
19th October 2038

=Chesterfield result.webp

Chesterfield were in good form, 5th in the table and had only tasted defeat once all season. Henderson made a few changes to give different players a chance. 25 year old Ross Terrell got a start in midfield next to Stewart Milby and on loan Striker Kayne Nurse started up front. Henderson's men got off to a poor start and an easy goal for Chesterfield on 4 minutes when Greatholder-Catley chipped the ball in and Lillis beat Barrett to the ball. Fylde were being undone too easily and on 12 minutes Smith set up Macormac who put the second header past Breacker. Kennerdale won the ball for Fylde and sent it over the top for Nurse but the keeper done well to beat away the shot. Fylde trudged in at half-time trailing 2-0 knowing there was work to be done. Henderson made a double change with 30 minutes to bringing off Nurse and Hamm to be replaced by Thomas and Harrison. Bytheway moved behind the Striker Thomas. Five minutes later Breacker went long and Kennerdale won the flick on, Thomas got into the box and slotted past the keeper for his 5th of the season! Ftlde broke again a few minutes later, Bytheway got the ball wide to Kennerdale and he played it foward to Thomas who played a one-two with Harrison and finished to draw level! Fylde had the edge and Milby joined the attack but was blocked when he tried to take a long range shot. Chesterfield were left frustrated in attack when Fylde defended really well to keep them out with aerial balls. Breacker was furious with his defence in the last few minutes as Hartley was allowed to wonder free into the area but luckily the keeper kept it out. Ross Terell took the ball in the middle, Fylde players were in their attacking positions and he was joined by Preece down the right, he knocked it down the line for Harrison who broke into the area and had options to cut back to, he went alone and his first shot was keot out, he slid in to knock the ball over the line on 91 minutes to possibly win the game for Fylde! What a comeback! Harrison went down injured with seconds remaining to the dismay of the home fans, he stayed down looking to get the game over the line. Chesterfield continued and got the ball up the pitch, Cherry threw the ball to Bell and Preece intercepted as the whistle was blown! An incredible away victory for Fylde! Henderson's first league win!

EH: When you've got myself and Duncan Ferguson in the dressing room and at half-time you've stunk the place out, you're not going to look away. We had their attention and with a few tweaks we were able to stretch their tiring legs using our pace and making it count. We have good quality here at the club and that turnaround was fantastic. Bytheway done well playing in the middle and he gives us that versatility. He's going strong for us and it's a joy to have him around.

Superb stuff. Apart from stinking the place out in periods like the lad next to me who'd been on the knock off ale a puffin pasties - but overall, pretty decent.

Think he was selling people his cockapoodle’s worming tablets to fund his meth addiction during those years. At least you can claim to have a parasite free gut though.
What's your point? I might be illiterate but i could tell by the happy looking canine on the box of tablets that they were only going to do me good.
