Sheffield Wednesday vs AFC Fylde
F.A Cup Second Round
27th November 2038

=Sheff wed result.webp

An all League One tie at Hillsborough and a big test for The Coasters. Jordan Wright got a start ahead of Lewis Harrison and Dan Carey remained in the side after last time out against Wimbledon. Sheffield Wednesday were good in the air and the balls into the box were being met with headers but they could only go over the bar. Kennerdale and Hakeem linked up well down the left and Jay Preece joined the attack from right back, he put a low ball into the box and Grant Thomas battled between two centre backs to tuck the ball away to make it 1-0 on 18 minutes! Barrett done well to chase the ball down for Fylde and he passed back to Breacker, his first touch was awful and Gary May capitalised for Wednesday and scored his 15th of the season. Barrett was livid with his goalkeeper after that howler. Jordan Wright wasn't having a good game and was replaced just after half-time by Lewis Harrison. It was all Wednesday and Breacker was doing well to keep them out. Harrison done well to get the ball forward, passed to Kennerdale but his shot whistled over the bar. The pressure paid off for Wednesday on 68 minutes, Gary May saw Sarfo in space inside the box and he cut onto his left to dink the ball into the bottom corner. Moffatt came on for Kennerdale with 15 minutes to go. Preece showed great vision to spot the run of Moffatt into the box on 78 minutes and he tapped in the equaliser! It's his first goal for Fylde! Paul Gerrard almost won it for Wednesday in the last few minutes but he dragged his shot wide. Sheffield Wednesday will be disappointed not to win and Fylde done well to pull it back taking it to a replay.

EH: I didn't realise Gary May was only 18, he's a talented young player and they've got real quality in their team. You can see why they're 2nd in the league but we done very good to keep them out as they were fully in control today. We want to bring them to Mill Farm and show them a real cup atmosphere.

AFC Fylde vs Rotherham United
4th December 2038

=Rotherham result.webp

It was seen as a must-win over struggling Rotherham if Fylde were to realise their ambitions this season even though it seemed the board would be happy with a comfortable finish in Henderson's first season. There was still time with another half season of football to be played and a January transfer window coming up. The first chance came on 9 minutes when Francis Johnson done well to keep the ball in play at the touchline and find Thomas with a cross but his header was caught well by the keeper Taylor. Johnson cut out the pass and passed to Bytheway who sent it long for Thomas to chase but it was three against one, he tried to turn Kieffer by the post but the ball clipped his heels, Thomas got another go and smashed it from a tight angle into the top corner, 1-0! The keeper could only watch that go past him! Fylde were going for the second and Hakeem crossed from deep to Harrison who headed it down across goal but there was nobody to commit. Two minutes before half-time, Harrison passed to Bytheway who cleverly chipped the ball from the edge of the box, Kennerdale had all the time in the world and he headed it wide. Johnson got it wide to Harrison who knocked it past Blair but Blair dragged him down to concede the free-kick, he has already been yellow carded and this could be his second before the interval. The crowd chant for him to go and the referee sent him off! Rotherham have picked up a number of bookings inside the first half and need to be careful. Stewart Milby went down with an injury on 51 minutes, the game carried on but he needed to go off. Jaheel Hamm replaced Milby. Johnson kept control of the midfield, Barrett and Jordan were rock solid at the back and Harrison was causing problems down the right. It was enough to get the result but Fylde need to start putting away their chances to better their goal difference.

EH: Stewart Milby has suffered a bad injury, achilles tendon. We'll know more shortly but it does look like a few months out for him.

SPOILER]=Sheff Wed result 1.webp[/SPOILER]

The first tie finished 2-2 with both Thomas and Mepham getting on the scoresheet. Both were in the team tonight for the replay. Jordan and Barrett continued their partnership in defence and it was both on-loan midfielders Francis Johnson and Dan Carey in midfield. Fylde had a couple of chances, Bytheway went close with a bicycle kick and Johnson's free-kick hit the top of the net on it's way over. Johnson took the in-swinging corner on 38 minutes and Dan Carey was dragged to the ground by Burton, the referee awarded Fylde the penalty! Grant Thomas was up and had the whole end of Wednesday supporters jeering. It must've worked as the keeper guessed right and pushed it away! A few minutes later, Wednesday got the ball up the pitch to Gary May on the left side and he played a great ball over the top for Paul Gerrard who blasted past Breacker to give his side the lead! Fylde could be going out and need a turnaround in the second half. Paul Gerrard was on fire and Jordan could not handle him, he got a shot away after a great ball from Sarfo and Breacker saved at closed range but he finished the rebound and it looked like Sheffield Wednesday would be the team going into the third round. Bytheway passed the ball forward to Thomas who held it up on the edge of the box and played in Harrison, he beared down on goal and put the ball wide of the far post. Grant Thomas was replaced by Kayne Nurse with just over 30 minutes to go. Nurse had a chance to pull one back after a great ball into the box from Justin Brooks but he hit the side netting. Fylde carried on attacking and Harrison took the ball on the right, he showed great skill to beat his man and drove the ball low into the box, it deflected off Cowllshaw and Nurse tapped it into the corner, 2-1! Is there one last chance for Fylde? Carey played it long for Nurse to chase, he cut it back for Bytheway but he lost the ball, Harrison picked up the loose ball and hit a shot from outside the box that went just wide. That's the end and it's Sheffield Wednesday who advance into the third round of the F.A Cup.

AFC Fylde vs Crewe Alexandra

=Crewe result.webp

Creew were battling at the other end of the table sitting in 20th place and was quite concerning after they finished 3rd last season. It just shows anythimg can happen in the football league and Fylde can testify to that. Henderson kept the team similar with Jaheel Hamm coming in for Bytheway, Ross Terrell started in midfield with Dan Carey and Jay Preece was back in at right back. Crewe started well getting in and around the Fylde penalty area and it was a nervy start for Fylde as Hakeem picked up a booking after 4 minutes. Jaheel Hamm found Harrison with a great ball into the box and his shot was well anticipated by the keeper. Hakeem took the Fylde corner, it was headed away but lashed at with a volley by Jordan and the keeper pulled off a magnificent save to deny him. Dan Carey was making things tick in midfield but didn't seem to be on the same page as Terrell. In the end he went for goal from range and the keeper tipped it away. Crewe got the ball forward on 30 minutes down the right with Edwards, he cut the ball back to the edge of the box and Williams hit a swerving shot that flew past the defence and into the net for a Crewe lead. Hakeem took the throw inside the Crewe half and Hamm turned and crossed deep into the box, Harrison went up for the ball with his head and was beaten to it first but got up for the second header and put it in on the underside of the bar! Fylde draw level and Bytheway is on for Hamm who was surprised to be taken off. Edwards shrugged off the challenge from Harrison and came forward, Barrett got a touch and Williams got to it first, he got the ball into the box for Shinnie who held off Hakeem and beat Breacker to give Crewe a 2-1 lead with less than 15 minutes to go. Kayne Nurse was on to try and grab a goal but it was too late and Crewe Alexandra get a rare away win as the Fylde supporters looked on in disappointment.

EH: (On why Hamm was taken off) At the time I thought Bytheway's experience would have saw us through but that's no disrespect to Jaheel, he really done well and showed me he can play in this team. The result could have been different if he stayed on the pitch.

Euan Henderson faced an important point in his managerial career as Lewis Harrison and Anthony Barrett's loan deals were to expire on 1st January, leaving a gap in defence and quality on the right wing. There were changes for the cup match, John Tomaszko got a start at left back and Keshaunie Yap-Sam got a start in defence. Jordan Wright started on the right wing and Kayne Nurse was in attack. an City had a number of talented youngsters on the pitch and the experienced Pat McCarthy played at left back. John Hall got the ball on the right on 11 minutes and put it into the box for Callum Jackson to finish giving City the lead. Terrell played the ball to the left for Wright and he found Nurse in the box to head in and equalise! No, the assistant referee's flag went up, Nurse was offside. Jay Preece took the corner on 37 minutes, it fell to Jordan who passed it to the right for Terrell and he smashed it in to level! Seven minutes into the second half and Darci crossed in the free-kick finding Howell to head into the top corner beating Breacker and restoring City's lead. Jaheel Hamm replaced Vince Bytheway with 30 minutes to go. The score stayed at 2-1 and with time running out it saw the introduction of Lewis Harrison for Jordan Wright. The game passed a few players by, Chris Moffatt wasn't at the races tonight and Kayne Nurse's second half performance was shocking.

AFC Fylde vs Luton Town
18th December 2038

=Luton result.webp

Flylde were out of the cups and had only the league to focus on. It was considered a big game for Fylde with a chance to move up the table but three defeats on the run could have affected team confidence. Henderson gave Hamm a go in central midfield alongside Francis Johnson. Charley Coe lined up for Luton and the 32 year old midfielder played 42 games for Fylde in their Championship season in 2029/30. Fylde came close to scoring early on when Johnson sent the free-kick into the six yard box and Bytheway headed against the bar. Luton were not holding back with the tackles and both Johnson and Harrison were struggling as a result of it. Johnson couldn't continue and was taken off on 33 minutes. 33 year old Ian Connor came on for his 7th appearance of the season. Fylde just couldn't put it away and Kennerdale was the latest to come close on 64 minutes after a good passage of play initiated by Connor. Kennerdale was struggling with a foot injury and was replaced by Nurse with ten minutes to go. Inside the last ten minutes and Preece joined the attack, he crossed deep into the box and Nurse couldn't apply the finish. Jordsn Wright was on for Harrison and Fylde had Luton on the ropes. The ball came into the box for Jordan and he slid in to reach it but hit the post. It's all over at Mill Farm and it's a frustrating 0-0 draw. The supporters see this as a big game thrown away as it would have really pushed them on in a match Luton failed to have a single shot at goal.

EH: The stats say it all, we had 21 shots and just couldn't score. Wright was unlucky at the end but he has to score from there. Luton got away with one today and will be delighted with a point. They defended really well too and their centre backs shone above anyone else. They were very physical and I feel the referee had a poor game, Johnson went off injured with his ankle and Nick Kennerdale is out for a week with a knee injury. How the referee didn't spot this is beyond me. We move on, on to the next one and we still have an outside chance, the league is only half way through and we need to be strengthen in January.

This season's Boxing Day fixture was an away trip to 18th place Gillingham. Henderson assured fans there was nothing to worry about and that he still had hopes Fylde could challenge for a play-off spot this season. Fylde made a good start getting three shots on target inside the first six minutes but Moffatt picked up an early booking. Duncan Ferguson was vocal on the line enforcing Jay Preece to close down Meecham quicker as he was being allowed space to cross. Fylde had a chance from the free-kick, 25 yards out. Jaheel Hamm stepped up, curled it over the wall and smashed into into the net! What a goal! The keeper had no chance! Jaheel Hamm proving the fans wrong! Gillingham were trying to equalise but Breacker was having a good game and the outfield players worked together as a unit to defend and get back when required. Dan Carey cut out the pass and headed forward to Bytheway on 62 minutes, he turned on the ball but had limitied options. Harrison showed himself and received the ball taking it on his left foot and having a shot which took a deflection and beat the keeper! 2-0! Harrison doubled the lead! They're going to miss him when he returns to Newcastle. With 15 minutes to go, Henderson made all three changes. Barrett, Harrison and Thomas all went off and Thompson, Wright and Nurse came on. This will be with Portsmouth at home in just two days. With a minute to go, Gillingham's Rowland put the free-kick into the box and Babalola gor up to head and loop it over Breacker to pull a late goal back. Chris Moffatt got back to defend for Fylde with a few seconds to go and Babalola's strike went over the bar. Breacker got the ball up the pitch and Hamm took it down nicely to end a good away win for Fylde and a good defensive performance.

EH: Vinnie made his 450th appearance for us today and I want to go on record to say how much of an asset he has been to our club. He's been here for ten years and has 81 goals too. He has been fundamental to this clubs success and we won the league in his first season so Vinnie, keep going and get to that 500th mark!

9th against 14th in the last league game of 2038. The transfer window opens in a few days and with Harrison and Barrett's loan contracts ending, it was an important month for Fylde in the transfer window. Henderson went with a 4-3-3 formation playing Keshaunie Yap-Sam in a midfield three with Hamm and Terrell. Portsmouth were on top inside the first half hour pinning Fylde back who were yet to have a shot at goal. Ollie Abrahams was in scoring form for Portsmouth and he held off Jordan on the 39th minute to turn and slot low past Breacker. Sean Jordan went off at half-time injured, Yap-Sam moved into defence and Vince Bytheway came on in attacking midfield. Six minutes into the second half and Bytheway was making a noticeable difference coming deep to get the ball, it was played out wide to Harrison who was determined to get forward down the rigbt, he crossed to the near post and Grant Thomas powered in the header! Jake Thompson came on for Jaheel Hamm with just under 30 minutes to go. Thompson was involved straight away with a great ball out to Kennerdale who set up Harrison inside the box to make it 2-1 to Fylde! That could be his leaving present to the supporters. He was over to the crowd and grabbing the club badge on his shirt. Harrison came forward again, Portsmouth can't handle him, he cut the ball back to Thomas who shot wide. Thompson won the header from the Portsmouth goal kick, Thomas played a nice ball into the path of Harrison who used his pace to get one on one with the keeper but he pulled off a good fingertip save to deny him. Thompson got it forward to Kennerdale who turned his marker and had a shot at goal which was just wide of the post. It's another win for Fylde as they move within two points of the play-off places.

EH: We turned it around in the second half after a quiet first. Harrison spearheaded everything today and he is going to be missed. We tried to extend it until the end of the season but Newcastle know they have a top player on their hands. Anthony Barrett was solid today and he is going to be a big loss for us. The two of them are crucial to our season and we have to continue without them.

EFL Trophy Second Round
15th December 2038
