Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

JANUARY 1ST SIGNINGS

Dominic Kidby (£13.25k)
21 year old left back Dominic Kidby joins Fylde from Sheffield Wednesday on a two year deal. Kidby has made only one appearance for Sheffield Wednesday this season playing second choice to on loan full back Szymon Gajkowski. He is a fast full back but is likely to be second choice to 19 year old Neil Hakeem. It is a good squad option for Fylde giving them two natural left backs in the squad.

Aiden Butts (£475k)
21 year old Goalkeeper Butts also joins the club from Sheffield Wednesday. He has played 21 times for Wednesday this season conceding only 25 goals. He caught the eye of manager Henderson in the cup tie yet it is unknown why Butts chose to join Fylde over third place Sheffield Wednesday.

AFC Fylde vs Plymouth Argyle
1st January 2039

Both teams were in good form and Plymouth were going from strength to strength in League One. With Lewis Harrison and Anthony Barrett now gone, Jordan Wright and Keshaunie Yap-Sam got a start. New signing Dominic Kidby made the bench however Jason Breacker kept his spot in goal. Fylde were doing everything right in terms of getting the ball into the box but the Centre Back Rose was proving to be good in the air against Thomas. The first half was quiet with the full backs trying to kick on down the flanks and get crosses in but still 0-0 at the break. Hamm played the ball out left to Kennerdale who tried an ambitious cross that was cleared, Bytheway took it down on the chest and hit a volley that the keeper kept out, Thomas tried to finish but it was kept out again, good double save. Kayne Nurse and Justin Brooks came on for the last 20 minutes for Thomas and Preece. Jordan Wright couldn't carry on with 10 minutes to due to injury so Jake Thompson replaced him moving into midfield, Hamm moved behind Nurse and Bytheway went on the right. Fylde struggled with the long ball forward and the fans were feeling the frustration. Hamm was too deep and needed to get further forward. Kayne Nurse chased down the long ball with minutes to go and was bodychecked by Jackson on the edge of the box and Nurse was appealing for the penalty. Jackson received a booking and the referee awarded the free-kick on the edge of the box. Hamm took the free-kick but could only hit the wall, his follow up cross was cleared. It's a 0-0 draw and a point each. There will be areas for Henderson to address after this. The team aren't scoring enough goals with only 33 goals scored in 27 games.

ANTHONY BARRETT RETURNS!
Euan Henderson met representatives at Bournemouth and after hours of negotiation they managed to thrash out a deal for Barrett to come back to Fylde for the rest of the season. "At first Bournemouth were not keen on letting Anthony come back but Serge {Milinkovic-Savic} was open for talks and we emphasised Anthony's importance to our cause this season. Kwaku Mohammed is injured but due to return to training next week so I think we twisted his arm on this one and reallty pulled off a good deal for the club."

Southend United vs AFC Fylde

Fylde were busy in the transfer market and it was good news to see Anthony Barrett rejoin the club on loan to the end of the season, he was straight into the team. Right Winger Chris O'Neill who was impressive for Warrenpoint Town decided to join Hibernian in Scotland. Ross Terrell was subject to a move and looked likely to be departing for Kilmarnock but it was still early days. There was an important matter of trying to take points from 4th place Southend to try to close the gap on the teams above. Jaheel Hamm was absent with the flu so Johnson and Carey linked up in midfield. Jordan Wright was recovering from an injury so Henderson tried Kennerdale on the right wing and Chris Moffatt on the left. Southend were in full control but Fylde were defending well and knew they had a job to do against a good side. Kayne Nurse replaced Chris Moffatt with 20 minutes to go, Fylde needed a different approach to try and steal the game. Southend took the game to Fylde but they defended impecably and made it difficult for the home side. Grant Thomas took the ball down the other end with seconds remaining but the game was stopped so Nick Kennerdale could receive treatment.

EH: We done well to get the point, they had us pinned back and couldn't find a way past us. We offered little going forward today and I think we should be grateful to take a point. We will continue to be active in the transfer market and look to bolster the squad this window.

JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW UPDATE
25 year old midfielder Ross Terrell has left the club and joined Brentford for £19k. Terrell was not playing regularly for Fylde and it was agreed he would be sold this window.

With Lewis Harrison now out of sight, Henderson moved quickly to sign a right winger and Patrick Craddock was his choice from West Bromich Albion for £160k. Craddock has League One experience playing for Colchester United last season on loan scoring 14 goals in 44 appearances. The 22 year old is known to be tireless and has a very good level of fitness and work rate. With the right coaching, the winger could really excel under the mentorship of Henderson and Bytheway.

An update on injuries: Midfielder Stewart Milby was recovering well but was still out for a a few months at least. Jaheel Hamm returned to training after recovering from flu but Anthony Barrett was taken ill and was advised to rest at home. Yap-Sam was reliable when called upon and was proving to be a useful squad option. New signing Patrick Craddock was on the bench for the game. Hakeem took the throw on 8 minutes deep in the Colchester half, Bytheway went for the flick on inside the box and was shoved to the ground by Lee. The referee didn't hesitate and awarded Fylde the penalty! Can Grant Thomas get back to scoring ways? Yes he can! Straight down the middle! 13th of the season for Thomas! Fylde were called into defend almost immediately and Jordan Wright closed down the shot from close range. Fylde came forward well, Dan Carey and Francis Johnson playing together in the middle and Bytheway coming deep to get the ball. Thomas was crowded out quite a lot by the defence being unable to get shots away. Colchester were getting shots off from outside the box and Fylde were exceptional defending them, Christophe got a clear view on goal and Breacker out of nowhere got his fingers to divert it away from the top corner, what a save. Vince Bytheway went close a few minutes before half-time, his shot just inches wide. The time came on 65 minutes for Patrick Craddock to make his debut, he replaced Jordan Wright who didn't have a bad game but seemed to lack the confidence to go past people. Craddock was involved putting a good ball forward for Thomas who slotted into the back of the net but the flag went up for offside. A few minutes remained and Hamm came on for Johnson in midfield. Fylde saw out the game and got a much needed three points. Euan Henderson's stock was rising as his team moved a point behind MK Dons who were in sixth place.

Euan Henderson has taken Fylde from 17th to 7th in fifteen matches and now has play-offs in his sights. Henderson has proved many in the media wrong and a good portion of the Fylde fanbase who said it was too soon for him to take over. After 15 league games, Henderson has taken 27 points which leaves him just slightly behind Duncan Ferguson who claimed 29 points from his first 15 games in charge.

AFC Fylde vs Cambridge United
21st January 2039

=Cambridge result.webp

Swindon Town completed the signing of 25 year old full back Lewis Clark who made one appearance for Fylde this season. 28 year old full back Sam Davies also left the club for Gillingham after not making a single appearance for Fylde. Henderson wanted to free up room on the wage bill and both players were not involved with the first team. Fylde could move into the play-off spots with a win over bottom of the table Cambridge United. Anthony Barrett was not quite ready to return but Yap-Sam had done well when called upon so stayed in the side. Franis Johnson took the ball down in the middle and played a lobbed pass over defender Nicholls who missed the header, the roar went up from the crowd and Thomas was in, he slotted to make it 1-0! A 1-0 win would be enough but Fylde need to be scoring more goals. Nick Kennerdale had been booked and was adjudged to have fouled Burrows-Blenkinsopp on 65 minutes and it looked like a fair tackle. The referee Robert Jones reached for the yellow card and sent him off! Wright played the ball in from the left and Scot Murphy had a shot which was blocked but he finished the follow up equalising for Cambridge on 69 minutes. Craddock passed the ball wide to Preece and he crossed in for Thomas who put the volley over the bar. Dominic Kidby was on at left back for Hakeem making his Fylde debut with five minutes to go. Cambridge were threatening and looked more likely to win the match but Breacker done well to claim late aerial balls into the box. It finished a draw and is not what Fylde wanted here as it takes them down to 9th in the table.

EH: Rob Jones was not at his best today, Cass went in late on Kidby towards the end and he didn't even get a card for it, he was miles away from the ball. Kennerdale's challenge was not a booking but we paid the price for inadequate refereeing today.

JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW UPDATE

20 year old Scottish left back Dale Alexander signed from St. Johnstone for £100k. The left back had only made three appearances for St. Johnstone this season so a new challenge was on the agenda for Alexander. A young full back who likes to get forward who has 10 u21 caps for Scotland. For now he is likely to be a back up option behind Neil Hakeem who is still on loan for the season but there is real competition for places between Hakeem, Alexander and Kidby.

Doncaster Rovers vs AFC Fylde
29th January 2039

=Doncaster result.webp

New signing Dale Alexander was on the bench for the trip to Doncaster and Patrick Craddock got his first start on the right wing. Chris Moffatt started on the left and came close with a header on 8 miutes from Jay Preece's cross. Mioffatt was there to cut out the pass from Vukovic and passed it right across the field to Craddock who got to the edge of the box and drilled a low shot into the bottom left corner! His first goal on his first start! Craddock was having a great half and just before the break his low cross to the near post was met by Thomas who converted his 15th of the season! Fylde were running riot and looked incredibly good when Moffatt found Craddock in space again who cut in on his left foot, hesitated for a second before slotting low into the bottom corner, 3-0 on 58 minutes! It's an easy away win for Fylde who were dominant all over the pitch. The defence were exceptional once again and what a game for Craddock!

EH: That's the level we have been wanting and it was really good to watch. Craddock was clinical but Moffatt was excellent on the left and has really improved over the last few months. It's a great win against a team desperate for points and we put them to the sword.

JANUARY TRANSFER UPDATE

The final day of the window was a busy one for Fylde with three outgoings. Right Winger Jordan Wright was failing to fit in under Henderson and signed for Birmingham City for £400k making a £230k profit. Jaheel Hamm was not enjoying his football and a deal was lined up with Notts County who paid £235k making a £120k profit. 33 year old Ian Connor signed for Fylde in 2037 but was not in Henderson's plans, he was sold to Mansfield Town for £4.3k.

Henderson had the rest of the day to find a midfielder and brought in Stuart Greene from Hearts for £100k. Greene made nine appearances for Hearts this season and the 23 year old midfielder was scouted by Henderson's team and the decision was made to bring him in on a permanent deal. The midfielder can also operate further forward as an attacking midfielder and has featured for Scotland u20's in his career.
"Greene is a player who we have high hopes for. From what we have seen, he can organise a team and he done that whilst on loan at Dundee United helping them to a 5th place finish in the Championship. He's still young and learning his trade but he has a professionalism about him that we like and we feel he can fit in well here. He made his debut for Hearts as a 16 year old and has developed a lot from there."
