Mansfield Town vs AFC Fylde
EFL Trophy Group Stage
8th November 2039

=Mansfield result.png

Fylde faced the exit if they fail to beat Mansfield Town with the Coasters in third place and Mansfield in second a point ahead. Henderson made a few changes, Nick Kennerdale got his first start of the season, Sam Pride and Stuart Greene formed the midfield and Hodge played up front with Thomas. Mansfield were in good form and were 2nd in League Two, McElhatton played the corner into the box and Breacker done well to get his hand to it but it fell to Clarence at the back post and he slotted for his first Mansfield goal. Fylde were struggling to get a foot on the ball and a few minutes before the end of the half, Carlton struck towards goal and Clarence guided it in sliding towards the ball at the near post to make it 2-0. Fylde made two changes with 30 minutes to go, Pride went off for Currie and Hodge was replaced by Hill. Fylde's best chance came ten minutes later when Greene played it forward to Hakeem and his shot was saved at the last second by Foster. Thomas took the throw-in on the left side to Hakeem, he passed to Greene inside the area and he done well to hold up the ball, he laid it forward to Currie who took a touch inside the box and smashed it into the roof of the net, the keeper had no chance! Currie got the ball from Greene in space again two minutes later and the keeper pulled off another great stop to deny him but nobody anticipated that the ball had stayed in play and when it came back down Thomas headed in! 2-2! Great awareness by Thomas! Fylde need one more goal to progress. Hakeem passed to Thomas who cut it back to Currie, he ran towards the edge of the box and drilled the ball with power into the bottom right corner! 3-2 to Fylde, Currie has been sensational since coming on! The board went up for four minutes and Kennerdale played it long to Thomas who hadn't stopped running all game, he sent it into the boc for Hill but it was cleared. Currie took it down and lobbed the keeper to finish the match and send Fylde through! What a finish, what a game for Jonathan Currie!

EH: An 18 year old controlled the last half an hour and spearheaded our comeback. He was incredible and it's a shame he doesn't belong to us! His positioning and his finishing was remarkable tonight. We need more of that in the league. Am I worried about my job? Not in the slightest. We'll be up that table we have the quality to do so.

AFC Fylde vs Bury
19th November 2039

=Bury result.png

Fylde's big players were back from international duty and it was a proud occasion for 18 year old Tommy Smyth who added another notch to his career by making his debut for Northern Ireland in a 4-0 defeat to Croatia in the European Championship Qualifiers. He had a better game a few days later when Northern Ireland beat Poland 2-1. Fylde were on the back of three wins in all competitions but their league form needed improvement. The newly adopted 4-4-2 was working so Henderson stuck with it playing a familiar line-up that featured the in-form Jonathan Currie playing next to Francis Johnson. Ollie Bellairs ran down the left wing on 26 minutes and crossed into the box at the byline finding Craddock who took a shot which was saved and as he went for the rebound was pulled down inside the box by Green. Grant Thomas didn't fail from the spot putting it down the middle! 13th of the season in all competitions! Fylde were putting some good passing sequences together but Thomas should have had a hattrick after 50 minutes. Tommy Smyth came on for the last 20 minutes replacing Jonathan Currie, his first impact came on 82 minutes when he made an incisive pass to Neil Hakeem who struck with his right foot from inside the box and the keeper couldn't stop it going in! The match ended and it was a comfortable afternoon for Fylde as their supporters celebrated the clubs fourth win on the run!

Oldham Athletic vs AFC Fylde
22nd November 2039

=Oldham result.png

After six seasons in The Championship, Oldham were relegated in 2037 but yo-yo'd and came back down again in 2039. With quality throughout their squad, it was going to be a challenge for Fylde. Francis Johnson was the only change with Tommy Smyth coming into midfield next to Jonathan Currie. It was all Oldham in the first ten minutes but Fylde sat back and absorbed the pressure. 24 minutes gone and Smyth played it left to Bellairs who passed inside to Currie and he passed wide to Craddock, Craddock cut inside the box and tried to find the bottom right corner but it was saved, David Hill got to it and knocked it in, 1-0 to Fylde! It was a positive first half for Fylde who set up excellently to deter Oldham, they had a few more chances with Hill shooting across goal and Thomas putting his volley over the bar from the corner. Ollie Bellairs went close just after the restart, most of the ground thought it was hitting the top corner. Daniel Henshall was in space on the right and he crossed along the ground to Neville-Spearritt who held off Tomaszko and put it through the legs of Breacker on 56 minutes to make it 1-1. Tommy Smyth made way for Franic Johnson on 62 minutes. Hill played a great ball for Craddock to run on to down the right, he looked up and saw the run into the box from Hill and gave it back to him, Hill went for goal and the keeper pulled off a fine save to deny him. The referee allowed an extra minute on top of the added four to the dismay of manager Euan Henderson who was ready to take the point. Eventually the referee blew up and Oldham manager Josh Sims refused to shake hands with Euan Henderson resulting in both benches coming to blows at the final whistle.

EH: I don't know what his problem was, whether it's a respect issue, I don't know. We outperformed them today but he can't accuse us of anti-football because we had more shots than they did and were unlucky not to win. Our players rose to the occassion, yes we are behind in the table but we are on a good run and have just took a point from Boundary Park. It's frustrating not to win but I'm pleased with what he showed out there.

Portsmouth vs AFC Fylde
F.A Cup Second Round
26th November 2039

=Portsmouth result.png

A big round for both clubs as the next one could be a big money tie. Portsmouth, 2 times winners were also on a good run having only lost once in their last seven games. The only injury concern for Fylde was defender Sean Jordan who was struggling with his foot so he missed out on the trip down South. Neil Hakeem was caught daydreaming and lost the ball down his side to Bottenstein who is a threat, he passed to Day who was denied by the on rushing Breacker. Fylde's best chance came on 60 minutes when Thomas intercepted the throw-in and played in Hill but his right footed shot was tipped wide. Tommy Smyth got ready to come on for the last 20 minutes replacing David Hill. Henderson opted to play Smyth further up the pitch behind Thomas. Time was running out, Milby came on for Currie with ten minutes to go. Bellairs ran forward after picking up the loose ball outside the Fylde box, he had Craddock to his right and played him in but he was tackled at the last second. Breacker made a great save from Day at the near post and Milby went down the other end, found Thomas but he overran it and the defence regrouped in time to save Portsmouth and earn a replay at Mill Farm.

MK Dons vs AFC Fylde
29th November 2039

=MK Dons result.png

Another big game for Fylde and their game in hand over teams around them. A win will put them within a point of the play-off places butr MK Dons will not be a team to roll over. Stewart Milby started the match next to Jonathan Currie whilst Francis Johnson dropped to the bench for this game. The first goal came for struggling MK Dons when House played the free-kick into the six yard box and James headed through the arms of Breacker to make it 1-0 after 5 minutes. Jay Preece got to the byline for Fylde and crossed into the box, Thomas headed just wide, he should be finishing them chances. Fylde came into the game towards the end of the first half and the long ball was working, Hill came close and was denied at close range by the keeper. Henderson made two changes ten minutes after the restart. David Hill went off for Tommy Smyth and Johnson came on for Milby with the team reverting to 4-2-3-1 but Fylde were done again by a set-piece and Stuart Kay tapped in the ball into the box from Angel Gomez making it 2-0. It got worse for Fylde when the ball was played into their box again and Hakeem fouled House to concede a penalty. House went left and found the corner to make it 3-0. A minute later Craddock tried a hopeful ball into the box, it landed at the feet of Thomas who stabbed it home to draw one back. Francis Johnson took the corner a couple of minutes later, Barrett headed towards goal and Craddock slid in to knock it over the line, 3-2! Fylde in with a chance! Five minutes to go, Hodge came on for Currie and went further up the pitch with Smyth dropping back. Grant Thomas had a late chance to try to steal a point but he mistimed his run and the flag went up. MK Dons get a vital win in their bid for survival but Fylde crash to a defeat in a match they really needed to win.

AFC Fylde vs Swindon Town
3rd December 2039

=Swindon result.png

Henderson made some changes with Sean Jordan available, playing next to Barrett. Stuart Greene started in midfield next to Johnson and Currie was up top with Thomas. The Fylde defence were left rooted to the spot on 7 minutes and Oyenuga got his 9th goal of the season. Craddock took the ball down the right and crossed into the box perfectly for the head of Grant Thomas who got his 15th of the season! Oyenuga went for goal from the free-kick 20 yards out and it swerved into the back of the net, 2-1 to Swindon, great execution. The second half looked better for Fylde, the wingers pushed on more and Bellairs was in a good position in the box but he got the header all wrong. Francis Johnson showed some great skill when he turned on the ball and struck the bar from 25 yards with ten minutes to go. Smyth and Bytheway both came on for Greene and Craddock. Jonathan Currie passed to Johnson outside the box on 88 minutes and he sent the ball into the top right corner with an outside of the boot strike! What a goal and he made it 2-2! The match came to an end and it's a good second half from Fylde but will the chairman be pleased with this result?
EH: The second half was everything we wanted in the first but with the tactical changes, we pushed on higher up the pitch and managed a draw. Let's see where we go from here, the position isn't ideal at this stage but we are hanging on.

Euan Henderson.png

NO PUNCHES PULLED WITH DANNY ROWE

Euan Henderson was never the chairman's choice, it was a fan decision why he was hired. I had no issue with Henderson as manager, he was growing week by week and picked up some very good results. We are only a few points away from where we want to be this season but he has one of the best squads at his disposal and he should be performing better. Moments of individual brilliance have kept him in a job as long as he has been. I think he has built a decent team and Fylde should be at least in the top four at this stage. Potter won't accept another season of missing out on promotion and that is why he has decided to act now. Fylde can still meet their objectives and I'd even put money on them making the play-offs as a minimum. It's important the next manager we hire has the ability to get results immediately and knows what it's like to be in contention. I think for Euan he has to go off and learn his trade in a position were there is less pressure on him to succeed. Dollingstown was the ideal job for him to keep out of the way and we were all surprised when he got the Fylde job. I wish him all the best for the future.

EUAN HENDERSON

It is with great sadness to end the chapter with the club that made me who I am today. As a player I wore the shirt with pride every single week and was honoured to be a part of the clubs fantastic history. Managing Fylde was a dream come true and walking out with the players, being their leader was something I never envisaged. The goal was to take Fylde to the next level and build a team that would compete for years to come. I was not afforded the chance to fulfil my ambition and I believe I was not given the right amount of time to build my legacy. I want to thank all of the players for their commitment, hard work and for fighting for me every single week. I want to thank the supporters who turned up every week and chanted my name. I will always hold you dear in my hearts. Fylde is a big part of my life and unfortunately all stories must come to an end.
