Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

TWO SIDES FAIL TO GET OUT OF SECOND GEAR

LEYTON HOME.webp

Both sides played it safe with either side not stepping it up enough to take all three points. Fylde hit the woodwork twice with the keeper beat on both occasions but it was a great performance from Leyton's Ekpiteta who kept the Orient back line solid. Brewitt was the man who kept his steel for Fylde; limiting Orients chances. Was a draw the right result? Probably

"Duncan, Alan from the Gazette is here"
"Thanks, send him in"

The Fylde Gazette sports journalist caught up with Duncan Ferguson after getting off to a magnificent start as AFC Fylde manager.

"I can only say how impressive the results have been, what are you doing that's so profound?"

DF: Hard work and dedication. It's really not rocket science. I believe what you put in you get out and the players just needed someone to believe in them to get the best out of them.

"So it's not your hard man reputation then?" The reporter chuckles as Ferguson leans back in his chair.

DF: Hard man? I'm a gentle giant really, but the players don't know that. I take my job seriously and the players know I don't stand for any foolishness. Luckily enough I've not had to give them a dressing down yet as results have been very positive. Performances have been up there as well and I honestly can't fault them......yet.

"The fans of the club are talking positively now, where do you see this club going?"

DF: It's early days but I'm glad I've given the people of this town something to be upbeat about. There's another half of this season to be played and I'm focusing on giving them some enjoyable football to watch.

"The squad isn't quite yours yet, Duncan, do you have an idea of players you want to bring to the club?"

DF: (pauses for a second) It's a tough question to answer, I'm aware of some really good players in the national league and if a team like ours is to compete in the football league one day then there will need to be additions. I want the players around me to show me they can step it up a level and give me a bit of a headache but aye there are good footballers around this division who can potentially go on to have fantastic careers.

"Duncan, it has been a pleasure to meet you and I want to wish you all the very best for the rest of the season"

AFC Fylde have an upcoming FA Cup first round tie against Forest Green coming up before resuming to league action.

When's the next match then? If your gonna play a game like this you gotta bin everything else off like work, bills, food, lasses, showers, shaves, toilet breaks and go on a marathon full season in one go.

ONE-NIL DOWN, TWO-ONE UP...

What a victory for Fylde! Who'd have thought after going 1-0 down they would come back and hold out to win the game?!
Forest Green had the chances but could not convert in front of goal and after taking the lead, allowed Fylde back into the game as Jim Kellermann scored a clean strike on goal on the 27th minute mark.

It was trademark Duncan Ferguson-esque again as Andy Bond scored a close range header from a corner, straight out of the Ferguson scrapbook. Duncan had this to say after the game. "We showed tenacity today and had the magnitude to hold out for a solid victory. It wasn't easy by any stretch of the imagination but we got the job done. The following we had here today was fantastic and the crowd were vocal all game."

Fylde enter the draw for the FA Cup 2nd Round.
