An all time Great driver but an all time great tit as well.
Begrudgingly, I will acknowledge that he’s undoubtedly a very, very good driver, but it would be interesting if he had real competition.

We know his petulance and singleminded nature, however right now he’s not facing any pressure. When he previously has, he’s gone a bit loco.

All winners have that ruthless streak; the top drivers are clinical and put people under pressure. However, he can still easily cross the line to dangerousness.

He’s good enough to deal with the pressure and had plenty of adversity in the 2021 season and didn’t fall apart.

He’s elite tier driver, that said every driver makes more mistakes when they are pushed.
Highly likely just clouded by my dislike of his character but I beg to differ.
Not disputing he’s very good, but he’s in an outstanding car with no real competition
Hamilton v Alonso in his first seasons showed a truly prodigious talent.
It’s the age old argument in F1 but I do think Alonso, Hamilton, may be even Russell would be performing at least as well as him in that car.

The modified NASCAR Chevy that Button is racing at Le Mans drowns out every other car in the field. Absolute beast

He’s got a black and white flag for track infringements, so when his engineer tells him to lay off the pressure he goes and tries to get fastest lap.

I’d give a wry smile if I didn’t think he was an utter entitled tit.

Senna was a tit. Schumacher was a tit, Verstappen is a tit.

And if you look across other formula's and other spec's, yeah, the guys at the top are rarely likeable. But they aren't in it to have everyone like them, they are in it to be the best, get the trophies and the scratching's in the history books.

What a crap sport this has turned in to.

Horner, Marko and Verstappen are seemingly bored already so are competing to become the sport’s biggest bell end.

I used to respect Horner, but he’s so odious.

I disagree, he's a very good driver - in a very, very good car.

Hamilton is a very very good driver, in an average car. Put Hamilton in that Red Bull and he beats him 9/10.

Thing with Verstappen is, soon as he doesn't get his own way - he gets angry, closes gaps that should stay open yet cries when anybody doesn't give him a cars width, cries genuine tears to the other cry-arse Horner who makes excuses for him. He's also quite possibly the worst ever teammate to have in F1

The team is full of cheats from top to bottom and Verstappen is a racist Belgian, with a racist family, a racist homophobic wife & a racist homophobic father in law.

So to summarise, good driver - not a great, never going to be a great. Despicable human being.

Not sure Hamilton beats Verstappen now in the same car. When he was younger I think he would have and perhaps up to the point Max won (well got handed) his first WC. Until that point he was always liable to do something silly under the pressure but I believe he would be able to see the bigger picture now with a hat trick of titles under him.

It really was a shame Masi screwed up as if he hadn't then last year probably would have been tighter given the nerves. Instead we've been forced to watch the same bloke win almost every race.

No way in a million years that happens, like id literally bet my house on it such is my confidence.

First of all Hamilton has never driven a Red Bull, the car is quite literally designed for Max's driving style. There is no way in hell he is walking into Red Bull and bodying Verstappen. Secondly, he is 38 years old, he is already a slower driver than he used to be, no one escapes the lapse in reaction times and ultimate 1 lap pace that kicks in around your mid 30's. Verstappen on the other hand is at the perfect age, he can still improve. Hamilton is never improving, he's only going to regress (albeit by small amounts) due to his age.

Also Verstappen at 26 is a more complete driver than Hamilton was at 26 imo, although i guess you could say it's a little unfair comparison given Max has been in F1 since he was 17 and Hamilton since he was 23.

He is a spoiled brat and not a good teammate but that doesn't change the fact that he's a freak talent.

I mean none of those have any effect on whether he is a great driver, you can be total a [Poor language removed] and still be the greatest driver in the world.

Max is a generational talent, the guy is absolutely obsessed with racing and nothing else. When he's not racing F1 he spends all his time on iRacing competing with the best in the world in a virtual environment. This is a guy who i expect will leave F1 earlier in his career than most to go and race Le Mans, GT3 and all sorts. He lives to race, same can't be said for Hamilton anymore.

We probably won’t find out but I think Hamilton would still be in Verstappen’s head and force him into mistakes if they were in comparable cars and as a result beat him over a season. Just look at the way he handled the Perez situation last year when he’d already won the title. Really don’t think he’s matured that much at all.

And Hamilton is still doing really well in a dog of a car.

I get that the best drivers are often ruthless (perhaps dangerous) and could come across as unlikeable. I recognise that in Schumacher and Senna.

Personally, I really liked both drivers. The difference with Max is the level of petulance he has, and how he has (in my opinion) crossed the line too many times.

He’s a great driver, but there are too many traits about him that I find odious. If and when his dominance is challenged, we’ll see the real Max again - see Russell.
