2021/22 Frank Lampard

Yep, Lampard got a bunch of struggling players to at least work together and fight as team. Something which a dour Benitez could not deliver. It does seem an ingrained trait of his was to always blame anybody but himself. The Digne episode sums him up.
I concur the digne row was textbook mismanagement. Frank seems generally respected by the players not just for his accomplishments as a player but the way he conducts himself as a manager.

You know whats funny, I reckon every permanent manager since Moyes (King Carlo aside) would've had us relegated after taking over from the fatman.

Each of them would've stubbornly stuck to their way of playing because thats their "philosophy".

Credit where its due, Tory Frank came in, tried to play how he wanted, realised these players cant do it and adjusted to get the most out of the players that he could.

Thats called good management.

Will he play like that from now on, most definitely not. But he temporarily compromised his own footballing beliefs to suit the situation, which is very Carlo Ancelotti. All while being personable and (I hate this phrase but...) buying into the club and its ethos.

Fair point.

Look at the ultra philosophical brown shoe tonight, slow boring sideways football and succumb to quick counter and abysmal defending. How familiar.

Single handedly ruin Belgian golden generation.

Thank god we got Lampard. Belgium FA saved us.

If Kenwright had got his way part time brown shoes would have taken us down and concluded his ‘unfinished business’ with us.
As you say , thank god for the Belgian FA.
(Although, worryingly, if Lampard has fumbled the ball by Christmas Bobby will be available full time).

Spot on post mate

The first positive sign for me was pretty much the way Lampard instantly brought in with him a staff that has experience, Clement was someone I think he really needed and he got him, likes of Cole etc also really smart decisions.

Love the fact he tried it his way and it failed, so he altered to the reality. Shows he's actually pragmatic without too big an ego to listen and change.

Won't be easy or a quick fix, but if we stay behind him think he can turn this mess of a club around

Any manager that starts waffling about "philosophy" needs to be punted out of the door pronto. We can ill afford to pander towards a manager's ego and thankfully Frank seems pragmatic enough to understand that if his ideas aren't working then he needs to try something different

Great post almost all of our managers lose there way and can’t find a way Out of it.
Frank did he may not end up being what we want him to be but he has shown a willingness to change which is very welcome

Can people stop calling him Tory Frank. There’s no richer game in the entire world than football. It takes wealth from fans all over the world and puts into the hands of a small group of players owners and agents. Aside from a few, most of them do nothing for their local communities (a grotesque expanded Anfield in amongst roads left to ruin is a prime example of this).

It’s probably the most Tory sport in the world so I really don’t know why people think our manager is any different to any other multi millionaire football manager just because he played for Chelsea
