Key test is now how many we can shift off the payroll - especially so for fees.

Gbanim (loan), Mina (loan or sale) or Holgate/Keane (sale) Braithwaite (loan) Kean (sell hopefully), Allan or Davies (sale) Rondon (free with a bag of Cheetos) Gomes (sale or loan) Gray (sale as we'd bank a massive profit)

That's the best case scenario to raise as much as we can to try help fund incomings.

Tarkowski arriving means both Braithwaite loan and one sale can be made leaving us ok numbers wise.

Gutting the midfield would leave us needing three new players - ones who actually fit into the same system.

Gray would be a loss but could possibly give us a big profit if we could fetch around the 15m mark for him the same with Kean going early would bring in 25+.

The rest it's more about getting there costs of the current accounts and hopefully giving some additional revenue to spend. Mina/Keane or Holgate going could bring in 10-15m if some mug is desperate.

When he says it will be a big challenge for him and the club, basically means try and recruit with freebies or loans
I don't think that is the case.
We are now moving into the third year of a new cycle where the year just lost was a large loss.
The sale of Richarlison will have reduced any loss in the last accounts substantially and possibly the Digne sale as well.
I don't know how the purchases of Mykolenko and Patterson are accounted for but at worst they contra against the sale of Digne.

We have shed between 15m and 20m in wages and will probably save more with sales or loans for Simms, Broadhead and possibly others. Even Duncan Ferguson leaving will all reduce wage cost in this current accounting year.

There are some players like Gomes, Kean and Mina that may leave and will at least save more wages and possibly generate income.

We will sign players , we will be cautious with fees and salaries for sure but we will be able to spend.

The big picture is that we have a team that can survive in the Premiership. There is no point in not investing in players and then being relegated.

Hope so

Feel sorry for him me, very very tough job

Yeah this is where things get very hard.

Last season had element of free hit but when the pressure really hit in fairness he managed to get the team to dig in and get crucial wins v Man. United, Chelsea and Leicester. Even then still had to get the Palace comeback win to make sure team was safe before lottery of final day of the season which looked a remote prospect going into the Chelsea home game.

So he deserves eternal credit for that given what was at stake.

It does have Tim Sherwood vibes a bit now. He came in at Villa when they were bottom 3, got Benteke scoring and enough wins to stay up before Arsenal stuffed them in cup final. Then lost Benteke (and Delph) signed some good players from abroad but just wasn't enough quality and experience at both ends and they were basically relegated by xmas.

Don't think things will be quite so bad here as there's an experienced core of players still around who know the league well....but they all need to stay fit and that certainly isn't happening based on last season.

Can see team losing first two games and then pressure will really be on for Forest at home. It's a very tough opening 11 games tbh with Arsenal and Spurs away, RS at home and more winnable games v Leeds and Brentford also away. Will see very quickly if 22/23 vintage has more bottle in away games.

Let’s be honest, he ain’t leaving. He was in managerial wilderness before we threw him a bone & if we’d have been relegated I wouldn’t have been shocked to just see him go into the media. Love him but let’s not pretend he’s going to walk out before he’s thrown out.

I hope he can actually acquire some players that have attributes who can mesh with his preferred style. I think the relegation battle would of been educational and mold him into more balanced manager as he had to embrace pragmatism something he never did at Chelsea

Thought it was a tough job for him and that was when I thought he was getting the Richarlison money to reinvest in a few players. Now looking like free transfers and loans at the last minute to replace our most important player by a mile.

Coupled with the horrible 3 centre back formation that he seems determined to play and there needs to be a miracle before the start of the season.

Grim, don’t think any manager would succeed in these circumstances.
