Good little fluff piece, doesnt really get down and dirty but its positive enough.

He talks well and doesn't for once come out with trite bs or stock catchphrases.

Everything about him is weirdly likeable (hated him as a player) think we actually lucked out getting him in, we can give him even a semblance of backing then he may just be able to turn this sheetshow around given enough time

Game changer this.

There's context to literally everything.

Was Frank a good manager at Derby because he almost got them promoted, or a bad one because he didn't really do any better than the previous guy even though he had Mount & Tomori?

Did Frank do a good job navigating a transfer ban at Chelsea delivering top 4, or could any half decent manager do that with their squad?

I'm behind Frank all the way and thought he did a good job keeping a bunch of demoralized underperformers in the league, but if he walked away tomorrow, what would be the thought process of an owner considering hiring him - and what club would they be? Norwich or Barcelona? How would they judge him and what would they judge him on?

Seems pretty fair to me to say it's hard to pinpoint exactly where Frank's level is yet.

First one, a lot probably would have done similar at Derby, although he got his connections helping with the loans.

Chelsea, think a lot if bigger name managers would ydve struggled in fact, think his inexperience weirdly helped as he was willing to go with youth - think a lot of others would have went with the 'experienced' but crap they had instead

With us, can honestly say 9/10 managers with much bigger rep and cvs than Lampard wed have gone down with, the task of turning around morale, getting some of them to finally perform, and being smart enough to see then passionate enough to embrace the fans getting behind us - dunno many at all who go balls deep to that extent (and trust me him doing that drove that support up even more)

The 'experienced crap' at Chelsea went on to win the Champions League half a season later, but fully agree with you on the FL going all in with us and how much it helped.

I was 100% against the calls for Big Sams return some posters wanted, and dont believe for a second a Mark Hughes or Tony Pulis would have done any better (quite possibly worse) than Frank. I think he has great passion for our club, which is a major factor better managers than him haven't had. I'm behind him all the way; but let's see what the results look like on the pitch. Ultimately, it's the only name of the game that matters, isn't it.

I liked this line:

“It obviously needed Kevin’s expertise on the academy side and in recruitment because it’s not my job to be scouring the data of European players for the No 6 position. That’s for the recruitment department and us to get together.

Makes me think, for once, we won't have a complete manager-led transfer list.

I think it's a case of Lampard saying 'i need a player who can do this, like 'insert name' and Thelwell going away bringing back a list of names to him and them talking it over.

Very occasionally the 'like this player ' will turn out to be that player as he's gettable - Tarkowski I believe was exactly they situation.

It's its notable that sone positions the players liked share a lot of similarities.

Winks/Gilmour.
Gallacher/MGW.
Cornet/Dennis/KLP.

Even cb we've been linked with three or four now left footers who are comfortable on the ball.

I also hold hope that Thelwell is running things past him - like we can get this lad now or hang on to see if x,y,z cones available, that way he doesn't feel uninvolved but Thelwell is still the primary driver on deals.

For once? That mad summer at the end of Koemans first season was never led by him. He wanted a striker. We got 2 of everything but!

Penny for Frankies thoughts now.

David Moyes was a BK apologist and protected the guy all the time. It would be refreshing if Frank spoke openly and honestly at that time he inevitably gets frustrated with the lack of transfers.

I always thought he came across well as a player. My in laws are Tottenham fans, and basically said they like Lampard as hes one of the few footballers who can string sentences together coherently.

He comes across confidently. Theres also a lot of reflection in the Athletic article. About where the team was it, what it needed, but also about wider expectations. Theres no doubt to me, that's a strength of Lampards, his ability to communicate.

I remember after the Spurs game, and he came out and basically said "I've said to the players, I've been in the position they were in before loads of times, and you find a way out of it". I thought it showed a lot of empathy. It would have been easy to disowned them and told them they were all useless etc.

After Burnley away, they responded for him, I believe 14 points from 10 games. And 10 very tough games including Liverpool, Leicester Twice, Chelsea, Arsenal and United. If we can keep that hit rate next season, we will all.be delighted. It would be between 50-55 points.

The one concern I have, is his tactical acumen. That will get tested.

He will make mistakes. He is still learning. However, last season showed he was willing to change his tactics to make things work.
