2021/22 Frank Lampard

I actually agree mate, but it's not like it's a great option to have is it. It's just the total lack of balance in the squad.

And that isn't just exclusive to now. All season we've relied on Godfrey to be our LB back up and one of our first-choice CBs to boot. It's madness.

Nah its not a great option, I think we have put ourselves in a god awful position with decisions all season. Benitez, Brands, Nkounkou going on loan no recall clause - there's an absolute 12 months of mess to pick through at the end of this season, regardless of what league we are in.

I am hopeful on Lampard, I think he will get us playing right, problem is for me the mentality and the squad in general - while it should be better then where we are sitting, they just haven't got any balls or the stomach for the fight.

I would have played Kenny last night because of this, he might be limited, and not a great footballer, but one thing he would have brought last night would have been fight, and last night was the game we needed it.

Saturday is now the next game we need it.

Imagine the candidates available after we fail Frank. We thought it was bad a few weeks ago.

Yeah, and instead we put in Branthwaite, who has what, 3 games under his belt?

Lets not delude ourselves. Frank wanted to continue with what he made last saturday, wich wasnt a bad thing perse.

But the minute it became clear Newcastle figured it out, he shouldv acted. There was no outlet for our defense as our midfielders got pressed very agressive, sometimes by 2 newcastle players at a time. The ball hardly reached Richarlison, Gray or Gordon. Thats 3 players that where doing nothing.
Branthwaite didn't play LB... he played LCB in a 3, in a proper 3 which is how it should be played.

He showed yesterday why he isn't ready, too.

Townsend was awful but not because he was out of position, but because he's a bang average footballer.

We have to try and play football and play out through the press and the lines - the hoofball surrender football doesn't work and we will still get beat, but at least I can get behind them trying to play out, retain & enjoy the football and do damage at the other end of the pitch in an attacking sense.

The belief will come, the players just need to stand up and get some balls for the fight, which is what went missing last night after our wretched luck with injuries struck again.

Frank's only had a week with them and I can already see the improvement in the players and the style of football - we have to persevere with that now and keep our heads.

I actually forgot we were pressing in groups early in the game until I read someone else's post. We actually had a couple moments where we were hunting down players in packs then it just abruptly ceased and we were overrun

What can one say? Good luck with this bunch of tossers Frank.

I'm sure he knew but this morning the sadistic side in me is thinking now you definitely know.
All of them but more than anything these defenders will take this club down. Ive been calling this for i dont know how long. We havent a decent defender at this club. Yeah it is a team thing but you also need defenders who can dig out clean sheets.
We havent got any. I dislike them all and have done for a long time.

If we'd have sacked Benitez in December which was the latest he should have gone, we'd be safely mid-table now
Absolutely crazy that we allowed the kopite to continue to do the damage that he has done. The mutants must be absolutely buzzing at his torpedoing of the club.

As you say, if Frank had been brought in earlier I have no doubt we'd be in much better shape.

The Arsenal game, where we were already on a dire run of form, kept the oink merchant in place as it made the board feel he could turn it around.

Sadly, it ignored that Arsenal weren't great that day. Hate to say it but a loss there would have likely meant we'd have now been better off due to altered results.

We played okay for some of the game but our inability to pass to one another, Mina showed that, 3-4 times he gave the ball to them. We caused our own down fall last night. New manager but a team that still mentally weak

Problem is, I don't see where is this midfield is coming from ?

Whatever you think of El Ghazi, Dele and VDB - they aren't midfield warriors as far as I know - that is what we should have been looking for in the window.

I'll try and not get too despondent, we know many of our players are brittle physically and mentally but we are just going to have to support them regardless and scrape some wins.
To be honest, if we werent so goosed for central defenders i would put Holgate in there. As it stands I would be happy with 11 men behind the ball for a few games to stop the rot and let the like sof Dacourre recover and come back into the team. whatever way you look at it, it is becom8ng severly squeaky bum time if we lose to Leeds :/
