2021/22 Frank Lampard

We were absolutely comfortable in that game until we faced just the slightest bit of hardship after their goal. It's worrying that just the tiniest set back in a game results in our players looking like they just want the game to finish and don't want to be on the pitch. We have the ability in the team, Frank just needs to get their heads straight.
We have a poor defence and a manager who has shown no prior aptitude for setting up a defence. His defensive record at Chelsea was horrific. The managers who turn things around are the ones who come in shore up the defence and make you hard to beat.

That is how you build confidence in the side. When you concede goals for fun, then the confidence levels in the team go from bad to worse. That is what we saw last night. We crumbled and could have conceded four or five.

We have played two poor sides who are fighting relegation under Lampard and conceded four goals in those two games.

Need to trust the process. Seen more progressive football in 2 games than anything the Spanish Fraud ever attempted.
This all day - the rest is just noise. They were still trying to play through the lines and retain the ball last night - it just all went to hell, and the belief evaporated.

Gray is a huge miss for me, hope he isn't out long. He affects the opposition so much, and pulls them out of their shape.

DCL at CF with Richy going wide and Dobbin to come on, if Grays out for a while.

Think I'd put beekhead in the middle with Allan and one other (not sure it's Gomes now tho) and go 433.

Id still have branthwaite ahead of one of the Berk brothers in defence, I don't know which one I trust least, toss of a coin who's dropped.

Need Goodison to be at its best going forward now - perhaps we should arrange another walk out to wake up the happy clapper zombies on Saturday?

Has to come from the players. They don’t have it.

The problem with the recruitment over the years under Walsh and Brands hasn't just been the ability of the players it's the mentality of half of them.

Schneiderlin - couldn't be arsed

Keane - clearly anxiety/confidence issues

Bernard - had anxiety problems reportedly

Gomes - same as the above and admitted suffered mentally under the pressure at Barcelona.

Holgate - cocky/over confident despite being not good enough.

Pickford - loses his head on occasions

Delph - reportedly a bit of a divvy

Kean - say no more.

And we wonder why the teams head drops like it does all so frequently.

Probably a bit early to be panicking on that front just yet.

That said, there is no denying that we've gone 'high risk'. All the upsides associated with Lampard would still have been present had we employed him in summer and someone like Allardyce on a temp basis now.

I hoping that we can look back at last nights game as a great game, for the reason Lampard has seen first hand what needs sorting, it was a perfect game for seeing that. I don’t believe he is a stubborn manager like Benitez and he will be prepared to switch things around. We have some decent new signings which will reduce us seeing the ones we’ve been seeing under performing for so long, so let’s hope he sorts it quick. I’m quietly confident he will.

Gordon has played 2 games in 5 days and picked up a knock last night. The team looked knackered.
I think we need to go 4 at the back with Mina and Godfrey out. I'd go 4-3-3 with VDB and Allan behind Ali. Hopefully DCL will be fit enough to start with Richey on the left. Personally, if he's fit enough after that Shelby tackle, I'd still start with Gordon, but I can see El-Ghazi getting some game time with all these injuries.

My biggest fear came true. Lampard playing possession football without the players to compliment it.

Obviously did not do his homework.

Ditch the fancy hopeless football. Concentrate on winning the ball higher up the pitch or in midfield. Turnover in those area of the pitch will result in less passes towards goal and we can rely on pace to create havoc.

Pack the midfield ffs.

The players look shot from a confidence point of view. Understandable after the poor run of results. Do we have a psychologist to reset their heads? The BT commentator last night described Everton as passive, which in my opinion was spot on. It looked like we were just going through the motions and waiting for the game to end.

Nothing has changed my mind this season that we need 3 in midfield - Gomes and Allan are being asked to do more than they are capable of - once the opposition are inevitably past them, our defence isn't stable enough to manage.

I'm not sure the fans getting on the players backs is going to help from this point.

We need points from what we've got, backs to the wall performances - forget anything beyond summer.

You'd hope his coaches and himself would have learnt an awful lot last night. We need points on the board but sometimes defeats like this do actually help. That being said, they desperately need to sort the defence out and as posted on here in numerous occasions the head dropping / attitude...
