Yes I know that, I also know we looked nothing like we did against Brentford, almost like the players needed a switch flicking to wake them up.

That is why I asked “what are you going to do about it Mr Lampard”, after all it is his job.

I like Frank, I’m pleased he is here and hope he can change the direction in which the club is heading. Tough ask I know.

Looks like we are cursed with injuries again, just when it looked like things were looking up with squad depth and maybe a little more quality on the bench.

You need fast players who can pass a ball, Keane and Mina cant pass and are slow. Mina only good quality is he good in the air, but If your playing possession based football you want you team up the pitch with pace to recover on the counter. ATM we cant play up the field as the defenders and midfield can’t pass or hold the ball
 
This is the best he can do on Saturday I think.

Mina, Godfrey out, Mykolenko covid, Doucouré injured. Gray injured, Townsend looked shattered, Gordon 2 games in 5 days, picked up a slight knock.

Things Frank learnt last night.

Gomes can’t be trusted. Don’t know what you are going to get from him, 80 percent dreadful.

Realises to keep hold of possession he’s going to have to play DVDB who at the bare minimum will add composure and not be loose on the ball.

Releases Holgate cannot pass out from the back he’s simply not a premier league player.

Is now aware Mina is a sick note

El-Ghazi over Gordon? Interesting choice.
 
There was never going to be some sort of dramatic immediate improvement just because Benitez was sacked. Regardless of who we appointed it was obviously going to be a huge undertaking to get a winning mentality into this team.
The cup win against Brentford seems to have made some people think that we had 'turned a corner' and had somehow become a good team overnight.
Nobody who has watched us this season should have been surprised by last nights performance.
Progress in the cup and hopefully scrape to safety in the league is the very best we can hope for this season. I still believe that Lampard will deliver that.
Next season will show whether or not he can be a success at the club.

For all the crap that has been played there still a group of players that where pushing for Champions lge not so long ago.
These players have had to endure turgid hit & run tactics for a while now , they sat that deep the defence was under almost constant pressure why do you think Digne fell out with Jaffa.

Lampards tactics must be like a breath of fresh air to these players.

Unfortunately we have to discount him as he can't stay fit. Godfrey injury is a huge blow. Branthwaite showed why he's nowhere near ready to play in a side that is doing anything other than sitting deep. So it's going to have to be Keane and Holgate which is a horrific thought.

But I said a week or so ago that I just don't think we can try and rely on our defence to get us out of this, so we've got to get the best out of our attacking players.

They were still mistakes. Getting away with it doesn't excuse being so sloppy with the ball.

He has a lot of good attributes and does seem to settle the defence but he seems to have a ball playing defender attitude when he clearly isn't one. We need someone dropping deep and demanding the ball off that backline.
 
We were absolutely comfortable in that game until we faced just the slightest bit of hardship after their goal. It's worrying that just the tiniest set back in a game results in our players looking like they just want the game to finish and don't want to be on the pitch. We have the ability in the team, Frank just needs to get their heads straight.

If these are the actual options for Saturday I think it would be best to just forfeit and spare us the embarrassing display

I agree on that first bit.

He is actually okay on the ball - better than all of our other CBs that's for sure - but wide in a three doesn't suit him.

Regardless, he's not going to be fit enough to rely on
