2021/22 Frank Lampard

Of course we have to get behind Lampard if he stays at the club. But that doesn't mean that him staying is the best thing for the club. He looks out of his depth and is experimenting far too much and we have nearly run out of games. Winnable games in particular are few and far between

Mina being injured is a massive part of this mess we`re in too.

He is the glue that holds the defence together, which gives the midfield more confidence and less to do, which in turn means they can do their job and supply / support the forward line.

We`re a mixture of players, that aren`t good enough, can`t be arsed and a few players who can be arsed and put a shift in.

Short of parking the bus, what can he do with that bunch of misfits ?

It's not just formation. It's more about discipline within a formation. At spurs the centre midfielders were leaving space in behind and the formation was too adaptable. It needed to be rigid and disciplined when out of possession.

Lampard then decided to totally ditch the formation despite it being the one best suited for the players we have and tried some weird 3 at the back formation at Wolves with full backs playing on the wing and it was just a poor decision.

Someone like Allardyce would set us up to be rigid and disciplined and with the players we have to counter this would suit us perfectly right now. Don't tell me these players can't do that because they got plenty of clean sheets away from home last season and against good teams too.

Lampard is trying to bring in a new philosophy of expansive fluid football and while that's a good long term idea. Its a tactic that will take at least 6 months to develop and most of these players aren't suited to it so it's an idea that will get us relegated.
Agree. Seeing a lot of “3 in midfield didn’t work against Spurs”. It’s ignoring that the 3 played with no shape, discipline and regularly vacated the centre of the pitch when we turned the ball over.

Doesn’t mean that it isn’t best suited to our players at the moment. Needs more training, playing and discipline, particularly out of possession. Anything is better that a 541/523 we’re away laying that leaves the two centre midfielders marooned and ineffective either in supporting the attack or protecting the defence.

Not just me then?

It's like he's continually arse covering now. It's not ideal.

Dunno mate he's coming off quite matter of fact and level headed to me.

I would caution against running away with these thoughts though because it only takes one person, especially one with a platform as big as yours, to spread this notion, true or false and before you know it there'll be Lampard out shouts.

I think he's unfortunately just constantly getting punished for trying to rectify the mistakes of the previous games.

Allan and Keane were awful against spurs, back to 3-4-3 with them both dropped. Mykolenko getting rinsed at LB, move Kenny to LB and then he gets sent off.

Sod off. I'll share my own opinion on here as I always have since February 2007.

I don’t know where to start with this.

We have chopped and changed so much.

Lampard is trying to find a mix from a shocking group of players. If it was easy to find, I’m sure it would have been done.

Successive managers have failed.

TBF, I think you're looking at it from an Evertonian standpoint.

If I were Frank Lampard I wouldn't want to be hanging around this club too long after a relegation. I'd want out ASAP.
If he stays and tries to make a go of it, he has little to lose, the world and his wife know where the blame lies for Everton's troubles. If he goes of his own Accord he loses his salary for the remaining 2 years of his contract. As I say, it may well be win win for Lampard. Of course who knows which way the Iranian lunatic will go?

He wont be wanted and he wont wont want to be here.

No way IMO that Lampard is manager here next season if we go down.

Its like one of those 9 square puzzles where you keep moving the gap square around until it works - or doesn't.

He set us up to play spurs as we should have set up v wolves and vice versa. It looks to me like he’s trying every formation available in the hole of stumbling across the right one. I’d rather a coach stick to his convictions than one flip flopping between formations

It`s not in his nature to park the bus and anyway, Fatty tried that for two thirds of the season and look how that worked out ???
I don't think the players at Newcastle are any better than those at Everton...in terms of ability probably worse.

What they have done is become hard to beat, disciplined defensive performances that grind out points.
Something CA was good at and something we need to get back to.

At the moment I would say a 0-0 against Newcastle would be a step in the right direction.

My expectations are but I think they should be.
