2021/22 Frank Lampard

9 games left to save the club from catastrophe and looking at how we have done so far under Lampard, the gut wrenching reality is that he is not going to keep us up. The players are still not taking the situation seriously and are blaming everything else apart from themselves. We can thank Moshi for that when he took the blame away from the players and the abysmal Benitez and put the blame solely on bad luck and injuries. You can see by their body language and embarrassing rally calls that they still think that now. They think they are above any blame and it is everyone else's fault even though they cannot even do an accurate 2 yard pass.

I cannot see any scenario where we stay up. It has been coming since Moshi bought us and then interfered with and basically ran every department himself.

No matter what happens the entire board has to go at the end of the season and Moshi either needs to sell up or employ people who can run a modern day football club and without any interference from himself.

Rock bottom is imminent.

Open the curtains.

But mate, Benitez did try the 'hard to beat' style and look how not hard to beat we were...

I think Lampard got it badly wrong v Spurs for example but in every league game since he's gone more conservative yet individual blunders have cost us points.
Im not excusing the players mate but Lampard has shades of Brown Shoes defensively about him.

Even at Chelsea he was lambasted for suicidal defending / high lines.

You think Lampard shouted to Kenny "have a shot lad?"

Or for Pickford or Godfrey to slice a clearance on the back of that?

The more open you play the more likely to make a mistake.

In our position it should be backs to the wall particularly away from home.

By all means get on the front foot at Goodison when a few more players are back like Allan, VDB etc but last night I thought he got it all wrong.

I dont think Benitez did tbh - he was more open than Ancelotti/Alladyce he just played on the counter rather than possession.

Well he told everyone he was trying to make us hard to beat... but that man liked to talk BS

I'm happy to criticise any manager if I think they're doing stuff wrong and Lampard IMO is with his subs. His game management in that regard is dreadful and contributed to the defeat last night.

But he's not telling Kenny to have pop shots from 30 yards, he's not telling Godfrey to fail to make a simple clearance.

But didn't we do that really well yesterday after they scored first? We got a foothold, managed the game, restricted them to very little and scored two goals through getting pens.

First 10 minutes of the second half we had two really good chances and failed to take them, then they scored.

We then managed the game again by getting a foot on the ball and it was all heading to a draw until Kenny decided to try and shoot from 30 yards?

He needs a settled side and formation. Ideally 4-3-3 but he needs to stick to it. Hopefully we can catch a break and play a more consistent side from Leicester onwards. Mina is that important to us having any chance I’d just play him in the home games and away at Watford, rest him for everything else.
VDB has been missed as he’s the only cm we have who can pass the ball forwards and actively looks for it. He’s missed the last 3 games and we haven’t been able to keep hold of the ball. He’s a big miss, perhaps more so than Mina in some ways. The game against City with him, Allan and Doucoure together is the best we’ve looked all season. That needs to be the line up every game from Leicester onwards.

And he's certainly not telling his senior players to get stupid sending offs. He must be tearing his hair out.

Not to mention how cowardly these players are. I think Iwobi, Gordon and Richarlison are the only ones who want to have the ball, everyone else just lashes it away as soon as they get it.

You just can't build a system if the players are too scared to play it.

They're premier league footballers. They're not been told to play like Man City. They make simple errors. Look at this:

Dom half arsed.
Gordon half arsed
Kenny skinned.

Then...Gordon or Dom don't run back, Doucoure does having been yards forward than both.

Next phase Branthwaite, Holgate, and Godfrey all crowd round Collins without any intensity allowing him to poke a ball through 3 players.

You can't coach that as it's the basics. Engage the ball, win or fight your own battles.

The same happened for the 3rd goal.

Doucoure doesn't engage the thrower. Godfrey has an age to even stop and control that ball. He panics. Slices.

You can't fix that on the training ground
