Oh right yes, sorry.

That was what was hoped but a) Porto didn't want to pay James' wages and b) James didn't want to take a huge pay cut

It would have been great to get Diaz but we'd have ended up playing him on top of the left-back anyway so it'd probably be moot.

But the point remains that when James left the club, Everton were unable to replace him
Which add this to the loss of Sigurdsson is a big reason why we are in the position we are in.

Probably lost 10 goals and maybe the same amount of assists between them.

It’s mad how agenda’s change when you love a fat kopite

I fail to see what relevance a belief in 2019 has to 2022.

That just shows you're a narrow minded individual who never grows, matures or changes their opinion on any subject matter.

Hence why you never gave Benitez a chance from day one as you were still fuming over a comment he made abar 2 decades ago.

I dont want to go over this again, but you need to let it go with the James thing.

We could not justify those sort of wages on a player who plays 50% of games. In fact I dont think we could afford them on anyone in our position.

Good player. Far far too expensive. Far too often injured. Should never have been signed.

One of the main reasons we are going down is the huge number of injuries we have. We need players who are fit and willing to put their bodies on the line every week. Not players who are completely unreliable. Its very nice to think its only bad luck that is the reason.
Oh I was just replying to a post about the guy being okay to let James go if we got a replacement in. I don't disagree with that.

The point is he went when we couldn't - like there was no window open - get a replacement in.

That's all.

If he'd have gone in August and we'd have got Diaz/another attacker/creative player on less wages then all well and good

But we didn't, we got nobody

That shows how desperate the club were and look, it had to happen, but it's still abysmal that it had to happen when there were wasters like Tosun, Gomes etc hanging about on combined wages that were more than James offering literally nothing

Everyone trying to figure out WTF @4737carlin is going on about

So you went from being a proactive and mature Kenwright Out protestor in your school years, to an immature baby in 2019, and now back to an all knowing sage in 2022? Quite the character arc.

Benitez has slightly better points per game (based entirely on that good start to the season obviously) - the next game we win (hope we do win another one like) should push Lampard to 1 ppg too.

Lampard has a better winning percentage (only just obviously)

They've both been poor. But leaving Benitez in so much longer than should have happened made Lampard's job a lot harder.

The failure to sell players was the biggest failure of the Brands era. I dont buy the excuses.

But the signings of Allan and James were arguably as poor as the previous ones. We had already wasted so much on players past their best with no sell on potential. We should have learned the lessons and not repeated them but we exacerbated the problem.

And this points to another major issue. Organisational structure.

We have a DoF who may or may not be buying players, a manager who is given free reign over the club and therefore undermining the DoF.

The clubs a mess

The transfer window of 2020 under Ancelotti was an understated shocker. Basically a complete roll of the dice on getting top 4 that one season. All of our signings were terrible for varying reasons.

12 games played since he left, that's 36 possible points, we have taken 10, yes I know one was under Dunc so Frank has has 11

How many points does 19 games equate to then and why didn’t you use points for Benitez?

I think the point @4737carlin is trying to make is that:

Benitez 20th in the form table
Lampard 11th in the form table

And you're the same as Chris. You haven't the maturity level to accept that someone has a difference of opinion to yourself hence why you follow me around the forum 24/7 (wasting your own time in doing so).

@4737carlin and I for example disagree completely on Bill Kenwright - and thats cool you dont see me trying to trip him up or finger his posts or whatever other schoolyard antics you like to engage in. :coffee:
