2021/22 Frank Lampard

One picked up a squad an injury away from qualifying for Europe from one of the greatest managers the games seen.

The other was given a team with 1 win in 14 who had been gutted of its creativity and confidence. You can also add the medical and recruitment teams that were massacred by Benitez and his narcissism. As well as that Lampard had 1 day to make any squad changes.

The situations aren't comparable.
I will concede that selling Digne to bring in Mykolenko was a disaster. I'm still concerned.

The flip of that is Eddie Howe and the time it took him to get Newcastle purring - didn't they lose his first 9 or something?

I think Lampard can be rightly criticised tbh, constantly picking Kenny for a period of games and persevering with a system that obviously didn't work meant we dropped points when we shouldn't have. He certainly is not without his faults...but if he turns it around and we stay up then it'll all be forgiven.
Howe had 17 points through 13 games.

We were right, you and the bootlickers were all wrong - he’s gone now (propbably way too late) and you all need to get behind the manager and stop polluting his thread with your misty eyed revisionism of the glory days with tapapstits and how he was so badly treated by us awful fans - it’s just so boring and wrong.

I’ve seen more than enough from Frank to know that whatever happens he should be the Everton manager for a good number of years to come.
Do me a favour, please dont be *right* in any other season, because the relegation battles that ensue when you are *right* are taking their toll on everyone's well being.

So you're advocating to replace him but you don't actually have anybody in mind, just a hunch we can do better.

I despair.
Figure of speech, I'm pretty certain of it. No I haven't spent nearly enough time digging up options and I'm seriously unsure of who we can actually attract. But we don't have to settle this summer.

It's not really worth him looking beyond the next game when it comes to how he sets up.

Like Ancelotti before him, he's seen the benefit of conceding midfield against better teams. The possession stats make it look like a risky strategy on paper, but the Tottenham loss proved that it's the only way these players can compete.

Whether or not we actually stay up will depend on the games where we'll have to get on the ball more. If he can figure that out, he'll get a crack at next season.

I think people think I'm reacting to specifically Chelsea and I'm definitely concerned more about the entire body of work. I don't really have a problem with how he handled that match specifically, I thought we were a tad fortunate but we were also due a break, it is more about the general levels.
I think general levels in the last 4 games have been good. Yes, we haven't had lots of the ball, but we have gone toe to toe with 4 teams that have all won a league title in the last 10 years.

We have made chances and limited their chances. We haven't sat back and prayed for one attack like under Big Sam. There is a semblance of us trying to attack and press from the front (as shown by how we got out goal on sunday). We aren't playing a low.block with 11 behind the ball but trying to force errors further up the pitch. There is a tactical awareness there that has helped us get 7 points from an expected 0. We have also cut out the many mistakes that were leading to goal after goal.

I don't know man, chances weren't exactly flowing (I get they're good teams but as far as actual good chances go we basically had two games without any) and we did spend a considerable amount of time with 11 behind the ball even if there was intent to press at certain times.

I'm not saying it is all bad or even wrong to do it this way, just not sure it means let the guy sign a bunch of players and start out next season.

I really hope he gets to build a team in this league next season.

I feel like he’s learned from some of his early mistakes and has become more pragmatic. It shows intelligence and a willingness to learn and adapt to situations.

You can tell that he’s really immersed himself in the club and everyone loves him for it. He’s doing everything the fans expect from a manager and more.

I’m a big fan.

So here's the thing: Sunday is a massive moment. Leicester are bad, I get the reputation and everything but they've been really, really bad the second half of the year. They're also going to be shortly removed from a massive second leg away. This is a chance to go away and play with confidence and actually be the better side. Yes above all else we need to win but all this "crap" I'm talking about not seeing enough from him can literally begin to be proved wrong on Sunday.

So while 1-0 with 28% possession and 7 shots or whatever is perfectly fine given what we need it also to me doesn't scream "Frank figured it out!" We can actually outplay them.

Possession doesn't mean anything.

Some teams actually prefer to not have the majority of the ball and attack on the counter. Atletico Madrid are famous for it and are very successful.

His honeymoon period saw us pick up 14 points in about 8 games.

What's your point?
My point was simple Dave. Benitez didn't get a honeymoon period and didn't earn a backing based off of his poor results as you said was standard for Everton managers.

You chose to forgo the standard you identified for Everton Managers for Benitez and are blaming the support for doing exactly what you said they should do.

Yes I'm aware, but even low possession teams normally don't dip below 30%. That's a lot of pressure to handle and Leicester aren't good enough to give that much respect to.
