Wow, this thread is an absolute bin fire. Big Igg and Dave really do hate absolutely everything about Everton apart from, bizarrely, Alex Iwobi and Rafael Bloody Benitez respectively.

If Lampard keeps us up he deserves the opportunity to put his own team together (rather than manage the leftovers of a succession of bad managerial and playing staff signings), a summer to properly drill that team in the style of play he wants from them (rather than being landed in a pile of crap on the last day of a transfer window) and genuine support from the fans and the board through what will likely be another difficult transition. It is telling that some of the very same posters who made a huge song and dance about giving Benitez time and that revolving door managers is bad for the club are the same people wanting Lampard out of the door. I can only assume they are long term satirists.

I'll fight to the death to defend Alex Iwobi's honour... the rest I agree with though.

We can have 1% possession if we win 1-0

NEA

There's this obsession with possession when in reality teams who keep possession for long periods are passing it around the back 4 for the majority of the time. On skysports news stats things they put up the 2 highest possession sides are the RS and City and when the 'most touches' bit comes on it cancelo, Saint Virgil, ruis, Arnold and another defender.

But if we are creating as many chances as they are with less of the ball then why is having less of the ball a problem?

It's not ideal but it's not the problem.
I'm not saying it is, I don't care if we play on the counter. I thought we played well in the first Leicester game and would like to see it built on in an away match.

Possession isn't important, not being under pressure for 90 minutes is. Usually you need the ball to do that.

He's played better recently, I will concede, but that's against a really low bar. With a fully fit squad where does he play, even in our dreadful squad? Centre mid in a 3, maybe? Definitely not out wide, he's clearly not a long term solution at RWB either and he can't finish, so I don't buy this "he's a no. 10" stuff. Don't get me wrong, the Alex Iwobi of the last month or so has been a welcome change but if he's our future then we had better get used to this type of season.

Think this is a bakanced view. It would be easy to react to unreasonably anti-Lampard opinions (nobody could have done much with the shambles he inherited) by moving too far the other way and start claiming he's God's gift to management. In reality, the jury is still out, and the end of this season and especially the start of next will be more of an indicator.

Not if you can defend as a team. Chelsea didn't have us under pressure despite having 78%. I like how we play, it's solid and manly. It's a pint of warm guinness without wincing

It was the most Everton/Goodison home performance I can recall for a while. Under a newish manager who is a genuine Chelsea legend. Can live with that me.
The Rom inspired Chelsea cup win comes close mind.

There are maybe others; Bobby's 1st season had some great ones.

Hes an 8 in a midfield 3.

If we stay up this year, he's been the catalyst for me. Tireless work rate and takes responsibility on the ball.

I love him.

I do not agree with that, we did well to keep it out but we were pressurized

Well I guess that mindset is the difference between us we were under pressure when fergies man utd used to come to town or wengers arsenal, those teams wouldn't give you a sniff for 80+ minutes. The Liverpool away was most like that but we could have still been a couple up before they scored.

It's just opinions tho

He's our second or third best central midfielder depending on how much leeway you want to give Delph.

I notice this all the time.

For all the RS possession in the first hour they never threatened once.

On the other hand we always looked dangerous on the counter and should have had at least one penalty.

It was the same when Bobby was here…we regularly “won the possession“ but most of it was sideways and backwards passing.
