Well I guess that mindset is the difference between us we were under pressure when fergies man utd used to come to town or wengers arsenal, those teams wouldn't give you a sniff for 80+ minutes. The Liverpool away was most like that but we could have still been a couple up before they scored.

It's just opinions tho
I'm not sure we could have been.

I'm perfectly OK with possession being 35% every week, you get lower than that and I think you're defending too much.

You still need to have patterns of play on the counter. How many times has Gordon been carrying it at a defender with tons of space and no options?

Think this is a bakanced view. It would be easy to react to unreasonably anti-Lampard opinions (nobody could have done much with the shambles he inherited) by moving too far the other way and start claiming he's God's gift to management. In reality, the jury is still out, and the end of this season and especially the start of next will be more of an indicator.
I don't think anyone can look at our performances and think everything is hunky dory, but it has to be looked at in context, it has been non-stop crisis management from day dot during Lampard's reign. If we survive, and if Lampard is here next season, I imagine we will play more like he set us up against Brentford, Newcastle, Leeds and Southampton in those first few games and we can all see that that was a mixed bag in terms of both results and performances but he will have had a full pre-season and, I would guess, a fair amount of transfers in and out.

Starting to question if it’s even worth counting Sunday as a win because we only had less than 30% possession.

Almost feel ashamed that I celebrated.
Why is it so hard for people to understand that winning a match doesn't mean you've played in a way that you want to replicate frequently?

Like you guys get mad at me for not understanding the sport and yet you've watched it for decades and still haven't grasped that weird things happen?

We had 45% possession away to spurs. We lost 5 nil.

Had 60% away to Newcastle and lost 3:1.

Rather have less because it means we have less kick offs from the centre circle, increasing our stats.

I will concede that selling Digne to bring in Mykolenko was a disaster. I'm still concerned.

You‘re nuts.

This is quite hilarious and peculiar in equal measure lol :o

Mykolenko player of the month on here for April.

@TheBigIguana have you answered this yet?

Did we play the same in those Brentford and Leeds games as we have against Chelsea and United?

He's got to 'check the stats'...or something lol

Have to say the way hes come in and tried to get them playing football...only to have the penny drop that theyre awful on the ball and have no creativity...to then go far more direct and instantly see an upturn in performances is a credit to him.

He'll have learned a huge amount about the squad in terms of playing ability and mentality.

Keep us up and the entire club and fanbase (bar a few whoppers) will be behind him

Not sure a manager since Royle would have such positivity and backing.

The manager is already on record as saying points are all that matter right now. He’s focusing on the basics and anything else can be worked on when we’re safe.

I’m not sure what you’re not grasping. We’re in a relegation scrap and there’s a reason a lot of teams fighting at the bottom often employ a back to basics manager.

IF by this point next year we’re still playing scrappy football and grinding out results playing unsustainable football, by all means, go nuts.

But for now, I’m personally going to give him props for changing the way he’s set us up in order to dig out results at a time we’re desperate for points.

The non pen from Gordon, which was remarkably similar to one Gerrard got at goodison when hibbo the legend was sent off, and when ruchy put doucure clean thru. On another day, the ref isn't corrupt and doucs can finish that difficult chance, hence the use of the word could.

Do you remember the game under benitez against Brighton? Widely suggested as one of our best performances of the season in which we controlled the game.

Won 2 nil. 34.4% possession.

You can be the better team without having the ball. That's all anyone is trying to say.

I notice this all the time.

For all the RS possession in the first hour they never threatened once.

On the other hand we always looked dangerous on the counter and should have had at least one penalty.

It was the same when Bobby was here…we regularly “won the possession“ but most of it was sideways and backwards passing.

I don't believe possession stats. They're made up

We had another penalty shout and I think another shot so maybe we could have been four up

And I agree!

But we haven't done that as often as people seem to be suggesting we are.
