2021/22 Frank Lampard

Seriously, have some of you forgot how bad we have been with these players? It doesn’t matter we were playing already relegated Watford ffs.

Could frank have set us up slightly more attacking and rotated a little more to rest legs - of course he could, and I felt the subs were too late, so frustrating for us, but understandable. We created plenty of chances though, and should have scored at least one - again that not Lampards fault.

Do I blame him for not trusting a defence with Keane, holgate and Coleman at its heart, and needing to play quite deep with two holders just to provide some protection - of course I don’t as they have already blown multiple leads or gave away soft goals and chances in multiple matches.

Frank displays the pragmatism we’ve been calling for and loads turn on him, honestly we’re a nuts set of fans.

If yerry was fit I think he goes after this more tonight, with a 433 maybe, but I can’t have a go at him for him being defensive - these players have shat the bed too many times, and I can’t wait until most of them are away from the club.

Two big home games now - I trust frank to get it right for them.

Good post ;)

Your missing the point. If this was Watfords first team then fine I would accept what your saying. But it wasn't. It was a bunch of youth players and rejects from their side mixed together to make up the numbers. Quality wise an at best lower Championship level team.

It was a much better opportunity than trying to get 3 points against a Premier League quality Brentford who are better than us.

And we had numerous chances to take the 3 points and players fluffed their lines in front of goal. What the hell has this got to do with Lampard?

…I think we had good situations rather than good chances.

Whilst 3 at the back has served us well in recent rearguard actions & we looked defensively sound again last night, I also think Lampard missed a trick in not going with a conventional back four & setting the team up with more intent.

He plays quite a niche formation that requires players to fit it. I don’t think it suits us even if his main aim is to not get beat. Perhaps he thought we would still nick a goal on the night against a weakened team but I fear we’d have still been playing now without scoring.

Very interesting to see what he does this weekend against stronger opposition. If DCL starts we need to play more in the top third and get players in wide positions to give him ammunition. Personally, I think we can still pack the midfield to protect the back four.

it’s a conundrum, does Lampard stick or twist?

I think Grey had two clear chances, and Keane's free header off a corner also a clear chance, all 3 should have been more troubling if not gone in.

I like the formation to get us through the season, but I'd rather Iwobi in the middle of the park. Leave Richy to harrass up front, he's better on the inside forward role but as with the formation let's do what's best for surviving. I can't see us risking throwing more players up wide and into the box for the rest of the year, he (and I) simply don't trust the backline at all.

Chance to really turn the screw and actually attack a game against dire opposition and a chance missed.

Worried he will fall into the same trap Carlo did and let this team become negative (the easiest way to play but rubbish against 13 teams in the league). Will make the Brentford and Palace games much harder.
I just feel like it was a must not lose last night. Ye ok 3 points were there for the taking, but we’ve struggled for years to break teams who sit back down.
I think had we gone attacking, leaving this poor defence unprotected, Watford could have pounced. A lose could have been a confidence killer in this side. With two home games left, (if) we beat Brentford Sunday, then I think this point last night will look a lot bigger. Just because we’ve had some good results of late, we have to remember it’s still the same players that have put us in this position. Ye 3 points would have been huge, but, with Leeds losing, it’s a point we take closer to safety. Big game Sunday now.

I don’t think it’s a trap, I think it’s more knowing the limitations of the team.

They’re crap attacking and awful defensively, if not camped on their own box.

It’s no surprise we’ve picked 11 from 18 by doing this
Also, if we turn the screw and go for it, and our finishing and players lack of vision still doesn't turn to goals, one break by the opposition could see us lose.

Can't help but feel flat after that match. Safety is still in our hands and a result against Brentford could do it.

Trying to avoid conceding is a pretty sensible platform but I'd like Frank to have other options up his sleeve for when the game is there to be won.

Do something to stop Erikson and work out a way to attack them.

No I’m not, as I know how atrocious this team of ours can be no matter what standard of opposition they are facing - youth teams/poor championship teams/gash prem teams - we don’t discriminate, we play turd against them all (borehamwood/hull/qpr/Norwich away/Burnley away/Watford @home for a few examples).

Look, I’m disappointed that we didn’t win considering the chances we had, and some of his in game management needs work (subs etc) and he could of rotated more last night, but I’m not gonna blast the manager when he sets us up like that after the many let downs this team have given us on the road this season - it shows me he’s adapting and he’s realised he can’t trust these cowards, and I can’t blame him for that. it’s the pragmatism we were asking for.

We’ve just gotta keep bettering Leeds results and the two home games are big but winnable.

It’s not over yet but it’s within touching distance and in our hands, which I feared was well out of our reach after Burnley, so frank and the players deserves credit, and we’ve been aided by Leeds implosion, which I hope continues.

Last night demonstrated how big this job is for Lampard even if we do stay up. He'll be looking to change the style of play and we are so ill equipped for anything other than defend for our lives then play on the counter.

If he’d have gone too attacking last night and we lost 1-0 to a goal from a counter attack he’d have been getting pelters on here for not being savvy enough to take a point. Had we lost last night we’d have needed 5 points to guarantee safety, as it is now we need 4.
We’ve been absolutely appalling away from home all season and have now taken 4 points from 6. We’re not safe but I would much rather be in our position than Leeds or Burnley’s.

If kept the same formation and tactics next season (which i dont believe we will) then adding a fit Patterson and DCL may have been the difference.

Then a top centre back and central midfielder would have seen us win at a canter.

The same would apply if he changes formation and tactics...we really lack in CB and CM positions.

I think he was right to start the same line up but really should have switched back to 4-3-3. Also, thought he should have brought Dele on. Game was crying out for someone with a bit of creativtiy.

Lack of quality centre mids and centre halves is killing us right now definitely. Hope we can change the habit of a life time and get some good recruitment this summer. Whenever a team flirts with relegation as much as we have this season, it takes a hell of a turnaround to not repeat that the following year.
