Yep, and while some of us might have liked a change or at least a change of approach, the truth is it would have been absolute madness to sack Moyes at almost any point in his tenure because he was consistently doing well. I was definitely ready for him to leave, but what's happened since just goes to show that the grass isn't always greener.
Well poor choices and structure after he left defo didn't help at all.

The appointment of Koeman and a Leicester scout as DOF was definitely where it started to go seriously pear shaped. Martinez was a failure but on a small scale compared to what followed. The moment we started the descent into the abyss was the day Yannick Bolasie was signed for £28m and it’s been carnage ever since.

That's my big problem with Kenwright though, all that stuff should have been done and in place years before when the PL was really gathering pace. We should have already had a basic infrastructure that could enable the club to grow off the pitch. We have always just been stuck trying to hang on running as 'traditional club' when the game is now a business and clubs need to operate as one otherwise you will fail simple as.

Yep, but those are things you need to be factoring into your decision at the time. There was never really a time where we were likely to be able to sack Moyes and bring in someone who was likely to do better. It's why I wouldn't sack Lampard now. If I thought we could sack him and bring in someone significantly better then I'd be advocating that, but I don't think we're at the point yet where it's worth sacking him just for the sake of rolling the dice on another uninspiring appointment.

You said this side minus Coady won't beat Wolves and City. What manager is fixing that in the next few weeks? It's the same players that can't score goals.

The same reason as other clubs. A new manager will get several weeks with the squad to assess ahead of making changes in January.

Lampard has spent almost £100m this summer and the team hasn't taken a leap forward, if anything we look more blunt in attack and more disjointed than last season. I do not have faith that he will spend wisely any money afforded to him in January.

I would rather that be given to another manager.

The team Martinez left, save for maybe a defender or two, was good enough to remain in the top 7 at the time, and build on it.

Then instead of that we bought 17 number 10s and Bolasie.

It's not that it's even run as a business, we're just crap in the infrastructure department, so to say.

Training base/fields, sure. Academy - oh yeah lad they win everything at youth level... yet we have next to nothing to show for it, certainly no actual quality. Not talking about Rooneys and stuff every year, a youth/reserve team slapping most teams in their league can't produce an average player like Gordon in about 10 years? Something's not right there, isn't it? Then we look at lower placed (at the time) teams and go "oh we should buy/go in for X and Y from Saints/Villa/etc"... yeah, cuz their academies are set up to produce first teamers, not academy players, if that makes sense.

Much of that was down to the fact that Moyes was on a massive wage when he was here, one of the best payed managers in the game at the time, there was point in time where he was on more than Wenger. Kenwright could never in a million years have afforded to sack Moyes if he had needed to and there is a school of thought that says Moyes probably did stay a few years too long and had run out of ideas towards the end.

After 2009 season Moyes sort of gave up and just took the money without kicking up a fuss.

That was the time when we needed investment to kick on and progress.

Can't be existing in this perpetual 'Let's see what happens in the next game' world - he's either the right man for the job or he isn't

The Wolves result shouldn't really have any bearing on the boards decision
I think this is an important point. The board should have an idea if the squad feel like his instructions in training are clear. At the end of the day, in any job, the workers are the ones doing the actual work.

Pickford

Patterson
- Coady - Tarkowski - Mykolenko

Garner
------ Onana

------- McNeil --- Iwobi --- Gray/Gordon

Dom/Maupay

Until we get more players through the door he should be persisting with this XI & system. Deploying Onana further forward hasn't worked - he needs to work on being a number 6 (at least for now) and give Garner a proper crack at carrying/playing the ball through the midfield. Iwobi either needs to be deployed as the most advanced central midfielder or at RCM in a 4-3-3. The likes of Mills & Cannon also need to continue getting minutes IMO.

That's only one player different to our regular 11 and the same formation?!?!??
