10 goals is a lot in a team that comes 16th. Why did we try to replace him with someone who got 0 and as a result got relegated.

I'm deliberately trying to be contrarian with the majority view on this. I just don't agree with the consensus and the more I see us play the more confused I get. I've been saying we need goals brought in since before Richarlison went, so I'm starting to pull my hair out at our strategy this summer.

Sorry but did you just suggest signing McNeil, for our right wing, was to replace Richarlison???

The problem is, none of us know what the strategy is. We're reading the tea leaves and trying to put together what the plan is from what evidence we can see.

You'll go nuts trying to figure out what's going on, and worrying that things aren't yet sorted. So it's best to just let it unfold.

It's not ideal - but what matters, ultimately, is how strong we are the moment the window closes. It's going to be messy getting to that point, but we can't make a proper judgment on anything until then.

They can agree whatever they like but they need to be backed by the board. And there's been plenty of reports this summer than BK is back running negotiations.
Knowing the finances upfront will have necessarily been part of the calculus. They’re treading a fine line ofc, but everyone knew months ago our dealings would likely go to the wire.

DCL getting an injury was always very possible so I don't know why we didn't prepare properly.

Broja is nowhere near good enough to wait around for.

I have no confidence whatsoever that this current squad can stay up because they can't score goals. Any positives from the opening 2 games are entirely negated by the fact we are so incredibly toothless. That won't change without proper quality being brought in.
Yes it was possible, as it is to a new striker if we bring one in. I'd be in agreement if it was a reoccurrence or linked to a previous one, but the fact it was a freak injury makes it difficult to plan for.

We knew we were after a backup, but not one that would need to be starting immediately. We have been burnt before by that ala Rondon.

I'd trust lampard to know whether broja is good enough to wait around for.

We will bring someone in, and likely another forward or 2, and the goals will be there. That's why I'm confident we will get enough over the season regardless of this 2 or 3 games.

If we stay with this squad as it is, then I agree, but we won't.

You’ve completely lost the plot this Summer. Full on tinfoil hat, Kev lost the plot. I think you need to give Everton a miss for a while to be honest.

I've not lost the plot, I'm totally rational here. I just don't agree with the majority of our supporters on this or the strategy from the club. I don't think people really understand our issues and the trouble we are in.

I haven't just come up with this opinion for the sake of it or for effect. I've been saying all this since June, so to now be in August with no improvements in attack, is a bit mad really. The proof is going to be in the pudding, and so far we are the most toothless side at this level. I don't see why that is such a controversial thing to say. Just watch us play.

You don't like my opinion, and it's fine. People can agree, disagree, call me out whatever. It's only football so I'm not going to get upset. But I haven't lost the plot, let's keep it sensible.

Absolutely not a back up. We need a proper alternative who is good enough to earn a starting shirt. Last thing this side needs is more back up and rotation options.

I honestly can’t even work out how you think the clubs strategy is to not sign a new forward(s).

So we didn't need a backup striker for dcl incase he got injured? Right, OK.

Sorry Tim, but unless it's someone like Broja who is young and developing, ready made starting strikers aren't coming to be a bench option because DCL is our main forward.

Again, not at all what I'm saying.

My point is we unwisely prioritised other positions and now have left a lot up to luck by waiting to the end of the window. We could easily have prioritised a forward and then sorted the midfield out with short term fixes at this stage of the window. We shouldn't have been adding to midfield until we moved on other players first anyway.

Sensible, well ran, organised clubs, line up their replacement alongside making a £60m sale of their best goalscorer. We've gone nearly 8 weeks now with no one brought in.

Whether the club have tried hard is neither here nor there. We need results, not people trying. You get no points on a saturday afternoon for trying hard.

Getting goalscorers was an awful lot more important than every other position. If we don't fix it asap, then it will be the reason we go down.
Disagree

We shipped over 60 goals last season. Getting the defence & midfield sorted first was the priority this summer.

So we didn't need a backup striker for dcl incase he got injured? Right, OK.

No we needed another striker who was good enough to fight DCL for the starting position. Absolutely not someone who is a back up. We need proper quality. But yes obviously it helps with our depth too, but at least they are fighting for the position and not just there for an injury.

Why would a team in 16th want squad players for the bench and not quality players?

Tim, mate..

We simply can't afford a forward of that quality at the moment. Even with the Richarlison sale that money desperately had to go into the defence & midfield this season. It's as simple as that.
