2022/23 Frank Lampard

Everton might cut short Ellis Simms’ loan spell with Sunderland in a bid to address their goals shortage, with Frank Lampard admitting he needs results to buy time as manager.

Lampard’s team visit Manchester City on New Year’s Eve having lost six of their last eight Premier League matches, including a 95th-minute reversal at home to Wolves on Boxing Day. Everton’s weakness in front of goal was again evident with several chances squandered against a team that had started the day bottom of the table.

New strikers are a priority for Lampard in the January transfer window but, with none on the immediate horizon, Everton are considering recalling Simms from a productive loan spell in the Championship. The 21-year-old has scored seven goals in 17 appearances for Tony Mowbray’s promotion-chasing side, having joined on a season-long loan in the summer. Everton have a recall option from 1 January, however, and may activate it in what would be a considerable blow to Sunderland.

Lampard, who is one of several managers with an interest in the Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga, said: “We have the ability to recall Ellis and we are considering that. It will be my decision first and foremost. There is a balance of what is best for Ellis and what is best for us and to get him in a position to be ready to come in and score goals.

“It is one question to be scoring in the Championship, another scoring goals in the Premier League. When we look at where we are at – and I am talking about options off the bench for us and options to start if someone shows himself – we have to look at everything that is in our hands, and Ellis is our player.”

The Everton manager spoke to the club owner, Farhad Moshiri, and the chairman, Bill Kenwright, after the Wolves defeat and said: “There is a unity and an understanding of what we want to do.”

But he admitted results must improve after a run that has left Everton one place and one point above the relegation zone. Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has missed most of the campaign through injury, is available for the trip to the Etihad Stadium.

Lampard added: “I’m not saying I’ve got time. I understood the job I was in, I understood the job I was in at Chelsea, I understand expectations. In terms of Dominic, we’ve hopefully got him at a stage where his match fitness is pretty good. Hopefully he comes back and hits the ground running. Hopefully we can bring in players who have a big impact. It’s important that we bring in players to impact now. And we need to get results. That’s what helps with the time and the process. I understand it’s as simple as that.”
The fact that there is no imminent signing is an abject failure by Thelwell and another embarrassment for the club.

It’s time to be real guys.
Frank is indeed a nice guy and was a very good player but the guy doesn’t have a clue on how to manager and approve on transfers.

I’ve said it before we need Sam allardyce he will give our players a reality check and they will be playing to save their careers. Sometimes a nice manager works against the team. Sam will straight up tell McNeil or iwobi listen you aren’t good enough you better play like you never played before or I’ll drop you and ship you out?
Ok Sam, im just gonna sit off here on my 80k a week fam, you do you.

I mean surely that must be a plea to the higher ups for Jan incomings

he can't seriously think simms will be a regular if recalled?

Sam will make us park the bus. So be it as long as we stop losing. He will say it like it is the team is terrible. @MaupsGoat the man got us 8th on the table don’t you think he deserves a season? I mean we did him dirty
We did him rotten, but no, he got what he deserved and truth be known, he got what he wanted.

He can crow about saving us and taking us to 8th, plus he got paid handsomely.

The fella has basically retired tho mate.

"vis-a-vis, AKA, Daniel Amokachi, for you!"
Can't stand listening to the cart any more, even though he does make me laugh with his Brentisms.

-

"When we spoke after the Wolves humiliation you said you were going to instigate some changes. I just wondered how that's going?"

"Great"

"Good, what have you done?"

"Changed many things really, in a global sense, streamlined the defence, the whole enterprise of it.."

"I'm sorry Frank but that sounds like football management talk and I know you're not very good at that - can you give me 5 specific changes that you've made?"

"I can give you 3 changes, and 2 more if you need 'em: McNeil for Gray after 87 minutes, Maupay on his own up front, and recalling Ellis Simms to save our season..."

Bunse.

This is what winds me up the most. The club have had at least, bare minimum, 2 months to see what a crap situation we’re in for and have sat on their hands. Other clubs looking at the same problems have changed managers, brought players and are already on an upswing.

This news of Simms now too is troubling not only on the pitch but behind the scenes. They surely knew having finished the summer window how much they would be possibly be able to spend in January, if that is £0 as recalling Simms would suggest then why in god’s name would you have Lampard out in the press talking about transfers and strengthening the squad for the last few weeks?!

Genuinely it’s like the World Cup finished and these absolute morons realised, “oh yeah we run a football club”, crunched the numbers a day before the window opened and realised there was no money to spend.

I’m not being funny I genuinely do think someone from the FA or league or whoever should step in and put an end to this because this surely falls under gross misconduct, mismanagement or outright abuse somewhere surely, how can these parasites be allowed to operate a sporting institution like us while literally everyone watches on as they destroy us from the inside.

It isn’t. It is a reflection of the status of our club. Our business will be done at the end of the window because we don’t have the materials net to make big offers to make deals go through quickly. We are in a relegation scrap for the second season running and therefore are not an attractive option. It’s easy go say deals should be lined up, but probably impossible.

It wouldn’t surprise me if we have yeti sell first to buy. You can blame Thelwell for Maupay and McNeill, but not this I think.

If we recall Simms then this club is in serious trouble as the Sunderland fans don't even think he is good enough for the 1st team as a main striker, they are happy with him as a back up but not premier league ready as of yet.

It also means we don't have anyone lined up

We are financially constrained. It’s sell to buy.

For the record, Sunderland fans have be been very happy with him and want him playing as part if of a two up front.

I actually think he would be more suited to leading the line as sole striker ref than Maupay. The point of loans is to give players first team experience. Simms has got that now. It’s time to help us out.
