2022/23 Frank Lampard

Not sure on this.

He's injured, that's why he's not playing. He'd never kicked a ball in the PL before we signed him, so was never going to be thrown straight in and in September and early October the midifeld was working well.

Lampard really wanted Garner and really likes him. He'd be playing if his back wasn't knackered (worrying like given he's what, 21?).
Garner was really great the 10 minutes he played. LOL. After Bambi the next savior?

I believe they hoped time to rest the players, train on the playing field and bring Dom back would help remedy the situation, but it appears not.

We did a good job against City, and the performance last night wasn't too shabby either. Our real problem is, as you mention, against the likes of Bournemouth.

A point against City is diminished if you then lose to a dreadful Wolves and capitulate against Brighton. To be fair, even draws would have put us in a safer place.
I would say they had blind belief :) - a dispassionate look at Lampard's stats would have shown that he should have been sacked after Bournemouth. That was the logical time to do it. If you look back at the XP for Lampard's time at Derby it was bottom six, not top six. Tuchel took over his team at Chelsea and transformed them, winning the Champions league. Last season Lampard did no more than an average manager would have done keeping us up. All the evidence points to the fact that he's just not a very good manager. To keep faith with him for this long is incompetence on the part of the board.

Garner! Completely forgot about him, what a truly weirdly timed acquisition - think you're right though, you'd assume he'd get more time under Dyche.

Fair point re: the fullbacks - I think Mykolenko is unfairly criticised at times but I definitely agree we're very short at RB, Patterson nowhere near ready for the Prem (another example of Lampard naivety). The fullbacks didn't overlap that much though and it as often not symmetrical (Charlie Taylor usually higher up than Lowton) - horrible to say but we will benefit from being out of the cups early and the reduced frequency of games on that front. I think cash is tight and the reliable striker is far more pressing.

I suppose with Dyche I'm coming at this from a different angle though - it's an awful, awful league this year, beat Southampton and its 18 points from 19 games to get to stay up with 35 points - that's doable in my opinion even with Lampard in charge if you get the striker in/keep Dominic Calvert-Lewin fit. I just think Lampard hasn't demonstrated anything in the last year to suggest he's worth at all persevering with; yes he 'kept us up', but we were still a mad unprecedented Palace collapse away from staying up on goal difference last year!

Dyche meanwhile has demonstrated that he can work with no cash, and that he can coach an effective press - both things Lampard seemingly is unable to do
It's debatable whether it's better to go with continuity and allow Lampard the extra time if there's a couple of signings that can be made rather than twist again and go for someone like Dyche.

I've said before that I believe Lampard can give us a compact formation and our players competent and effective instructions to play on the counter (he's put a spanner in the works of all the top teams like United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool...beating all those barring Liverpool, but getting a draw at GP and frightening the life out of them at Anfield last season as we nearly did a smash and grab). In fact, last season's run in we had Watford away before the Palace game and Frank kept it tight that night...bizarrely for some, so he wasn't just deploying it against top teams. So the only advantage someone like Dyche has over Lampard is that we could bank on him setting up a lot more securely in all / the majority of games we have between now and the end of the season.

I'm just not convinced Dyche would handle the pressure of keeping us up (Everton comes with the expectation of being in the top flight whereas Burnley didn't have that burden for him); whereas Lampard has demonstrated that he can in the recent past.

I want a managerial change, because Lampard will not play with security in mind, but I dont believe in Dyche. ?‍♂️

Me either. Dyche is another dinosaur.

Stop dithering about Everton and get rid of him. The risk of letting him take Southampton and/or West Ham is too great. These are are both absolutely massive games now and we simply have to get points which we more than likely wont when you consider 3 wins out of 18 games. It has to be done.

Southampton finding some form just as they play us…

Hardly call it some form but Palace look like they’ll save us a job of handing Jones his first win

What? No they’re not.

That's not a happy camp down there.

Their fans are furious S'ton appointed Jones.

Ward-Prowse needs a lot of attention and we'd be mad to offer them free kicks outside our box, but if we play like last night we'll defeat them.

Funnily enough, If we beat S'ton and took a point off WHU then I wouldn't be too fearful of facing Arsenal and Liverpool with Lampard as manager. He's proven he can set up a team that top teams find difficult to break down:

City
United
Arsenal
Liverpool
Chelsea

...all lost points to Lampard in his brief time here.

I dont think any incoming manager could do better against that lot than Lampard has or will (if he keeps his job).

...it's just the other 15 clubs he thinks we're better than that we'll struggle against...

We can't play like we did last night against them. They're a completely different team and we're at home. It'll be like Wolves again
