At some point you have to start. We didn't want to do it when we fired Rafael. Then Frank had to stay because we survived but he wasn't capable so we still aren't. When? You are right, long term we can’t defend our way to European glory. It’s not a nice thought, but this team isn’t attacking their way out of trouble in the space of 4 months. No chance. Attacking or at least attractive and effective patterns and philosophies can take months or seasons to drill into even smart talented players before it becomes consistent. If it was so easy top managers would happily go to struggling teams and flip them to success all over the shop. There is a reason why all the managers historically known for keeping bad teams up played the same ugly nasty negative football, scraping points in desperation. Squads low on confidence and quality can’t implement the styles we all want. If they could they wouldn’t be crap.
Nobody is voluntarily walking away when your contractually obligated seven figure pay off is only a short matter of time away.He should resign
If you buy into the idea that you can't play better you just assure eventual relegation. Maybe it isn't this season, but until we try to play in a way that can score goals and win games we will always be here until we go.
Yeah this is how I see it too. Becoming a decent attacking team comes with signings, which we might get a shot at in the summer but we have to stay up firstYou are right, long term we can’t defend our way to European glory. So it's ego or greed that keeps him here. We can stop pretending he cares thenNobody is voluntarily walking away when your contractually obligated seven figure pay off is only a short matter of time away.
But then we'll keep whichever manager keeps us up who won't be able to actually do it and the cycle just turns over until we eventually don't stay up.Yeah this is how I see it too. I honestly don't think our fanbase would stand for it. Whoever comes in to try to drag us to safety with anti football would still be hounded out like Allardyce wasBut then we'll keep whichever manager keeps us up who won't be able to actually do it and the cycle just turns over until we eventually don't stay up.
Not sure it's either. You don't get to the top of elite sport as a player or manager without having unwaivering self belief in your abilities. Not sure that's the same as egotism. As for greed; no one of sound mind voluntarily chooses to forgo the payments they are entitled to receive as an employee. It's hardly greed. So it's ego or greed that keeps him here. I’m not disagreeing the concept, but you can’t teach cack players to be good. Better than they have been definitely, they have been a disgrace. But they’ve all played football for hours a day since the age of 6 under the best coaches available with elite facilities. If they were capable of the effective attacking styles that gets you 60+ points, we wouldn’t be bottom and they wouldn’t play for current Everton. At some point you have to start. You can play better while also recruiting better. It doesn't have to be one then the other.I’m not disagreeing the concept, but you can’t teach cack players to be good. I genuinely can't remember a recent resignation of a manager in this league off the top of my head. I'm sure there's probably an example I'm forgetting, but it doesn't seem to happen much anymore. So it's ego or greed that keeps him here. We can stop pretending he cares then
It's pure ego and sheer delusion if you can't see you are causing harm with you actions at this point. It's also a very basic definition of greed to do something that causes others harm for the gain of personal wealth, in fact it might go beyond and that and be sociopathicNot sure it's either. Me neither, I don't blame them particularly but they aren't saints. Was keegan the last?I genuinely can't remember a recent resignation of a manager in this league off the top of my head. I'm sure there's probably an example I'm forgetting, but it doesn't seem to happen much anymore.
