2022/23 Frank Lampard

It's D-Day for Lampard. He needs to get what he needs and is calling for or quit.

I think things are little more volatile then we think - i read a bit into that comment that he made.

My take is we absolutely have to stick with him, i think the man has a vision and he is making proper footballing signings to enable it, the lack of a striker is scuppering us. But another total reboot just scuppers us - another manager comes in doesnt fancy McNeill, shifts Iwobo out the wing etc. Be a disater, again.

We have to accept Frank is developing, i think hes set up a bit naively at times, i think he has to be a bit more risk averse in terms of games management. We strike me a bit like Leicester under Rodgers a bit boom and bust as a best case scenario if we get a striker, he was a bit like that at Chelsea to- he can go the other way as we saw at the back end of the season - he needs to find the balance.

No reason Everton couldn't win at Brentford and Leeds.

Seasons currently one of transition - Onana has potential to be another Fellaini but raw and needs time, Gana not yet resigned, need DCL fit and/or 2 attacking players coming in.

But on top of the squad issues we have an inexperienced manager who's suited to playing 433 when we now have a DOF/system specialising in 3 at the back.

I think the first chance the DOF gets he'll punt Lampard to bring his own man in tbh.

Last season it seemed he was desperate to get us into a 4-3-3 but we just didn't have the players.

Now we seem to be signing players to suit a 3-4-3 instead.

What's his preferred philosophy?

Rodgers is a far superior manager to Frank. He digs out more results and makes better in-game decisions.

I like Lamaprd but as yet I'm not persuaded about him.

Thelwell came from Wolves and we suddenly started playing 3 at the back. It's surely because of the directive from the DOF.

I don't like 3 at the back, but I don't like 4 at the back either with these players. That's why I really didn't like the Coady signing. It takes away our ability to be flexible.

Is that the Rodgers that just got webbed at home by a Southampton side full of kids?
Just accept that most PL managers have more experience than Frank bar Stevie G. And he's about to lose his job. We're all saying 'Lampard had a vision' but basing it on no tangible history. It would be a lot easier to get behind Lampard if we had seen what he had done at other clubs in the past.

Be interesting to see what Big Kev Thelwell does long term if results dont come in.

The way he removed Unsworth and also instruct on Lampard to play 3 at the back is ruthless and shows he likes having control of the club.

Compare that to Brands who meekly sat by and let anarchy go on including managers playing different formations etc.

The first sign of a winnless run and I think he'll pull the trigger and use the opportunity to bring his own manager in who specialises in 3 at the back.

Can see + and -'s to both mate.

But prob fair, hes far more experience then Frank, but Rodgers has been very lucky in a lot of his posts - at Mordor he got very lucky Suarez was there, he did well at Parkhead and he had a good squad at Leicester - though hes squandered abit there putting together a squad and got a bit lucky having Vardy in place. I often feel hes the man for 2 or 3 years and then hits his ceiling or teams cotton on.

Lampard i think is a good coach, good man manager, he gets the best out of his players and improves them - Iwobi, Davies yesterday had a good game, Pickfords been in great form, Gordon really has come on - i also like his signings this summer - they are proper footballing signings, Coady and JT in particular. Hes young hes, idealistic and i like to think a bit more pragmatism will develop as he goes on and a bit of perspective.

Its sometimes not about winning the game at all costs, its about the macro picture - we need 20 points by Xmas minimum and with that sometimes a point is better then trying for a win - we very easily could have got a point out of Chelsea and Villa, i think that pragmatism has to come with him, or he needs to find a balance and a bit of perspective - in context like this i.e. likely four games without a striker - 4 draws is a good outcome in that context.
