2022/23 Frank Lampard

This goes beyond the manager. Voluble sections of our fanbase have this irrational sense of entitlement that Everton play good football - but Everton haven't played consistently good football for 35 years now. Everton have been largely rubbish since we last won the league. I am all for the style we evinced in the 1980s. Joe Royle had us playing some very good stuff in 1995/96. Roberto Martinez had us playing freewheeling stuff in 2013/14. Neither could sustain it. Other than that, we've been, at our best, functional and effective, at our worst, abysmally ineffective.

The reason this affectation matters is that it is corrosive. It infects managerial appointment decisions. So we end up choosing managers who "aspire" to playing a certain way but who are all fur coat and no knickers. Martinez, Silva, and Lampard were all appointed in one way or the other because of their purported "style". Effectiveness was secondary. Allardyce was hugely effective in his short stint - we were safe from relegation in a month after the spiralling nightmare of late-era Koeman and David Unsworth getting hockeyed at Southampton. But his "style" was offensive to many (off-field as much as on). Benitez never had a chance. The leadership of the club should have recognised he would never have been given a chance, rightly or wrongly, and gone elsewhere.

So the lessons we need to learn are we need a manager who plays an effective brand of football, i.e., gets the best out of his players, and doesn't offend the fanbase in his - and his team's - basic comportment. Managers last quite a while at Everton - slow, inert, decrepit Everton - if they have a dignified presence (Walter Smith is a classic example). Add a bit of effectiveness to that basic dignity and we should be closer to appointing somebody who might stand a chance.
Good post that.

Moshiri's reign is portrayed as an incessant cycle of sackings when it's more accurately an incessant cycle of poor appointments, on and off the field, that inevitably turn into sackings.

Looks like he ain't going nowhere!,we just sleepwalking into the championship with this clown in charge.

Sleepwalking into League One, with the state of our squad I wouldn't be surprised if we followed the likes of Sunderland and Hull City from 5 or so years ago.

Worst case scenario obviously, but it is Everton...

The worst way to play football is to impose a style that require our limited players to break a solid 8 man defensive wall at every attacking attempt. It is an impossible task for our players, or any players we’re link with. Lampard is living in obsess dreamland.
Highlights Lampard's biggest failing. Baffles me why a bloke with apparent intelligence cannot see why we need to play a needs must style of play. I am not advocathing 10 behind the ball, hoof and chase but surely there is a way we can have 2 up top and work on attacking and defending as a team unit. At present I see big gaps all over the pitch.

Is there an argument that some teams will sit back knowing we haven't enough guile to get through and just hit us on the break with ease? Trying to stay tight and counter may not work.

Lampard has to go. How is he going to turn this mess around? Answers on a postcard. Short and sweet answer is , he isn’t going to turn anything around. So let’s get someone in , and at the very least , give the new manager , some sort of a fighting chance. Come on Everton. End this Lampard nonsense. Get someone who can get these players playing football again. Because that wasn’t football yesterday. That was a bunch of players that imo have given up on the manager.
Get Dyche in now. It might work. The bar is now set very low. Won’t take much to better Lampards results. Any improvement in our results would be welcome. Even the new manager bounce , will do me , for now.

Pointless exercise , but here’s the team that I would like to see play. Instead of the same old , same old nonsense from Lampard.
Pickford.
Holgate…..Mina ( if fit )…….Coady……Godfrey.
Doucoure……Onana……Davies……Iwobi.
DCL……that new guy, that we just bought.( let’s see what he can do ).
Go 4-4-2. Go direct.
Drop our useless wing play. Gray , who scores a wonder goal every 20 matches. Gordon , who doesn’t score a wonder goal every 20 matches. And McNeil , who just doesn’t.

Anyhow , we ain’t down just yet. And who knows , the likes of Dyche just might get a tune out of these guys. Might even blood a few youngsters, who might surprise us .
So let’s just try something different. Because Lampard isn’t up to doing different. He will pick the same nonsense for next week. Someone please tell him that it ain’t working. 5-4-1 or whatever that nonsense was yesterday , ain’t working.

I haven’t given up , that we won’t get anything from Arsenal and Liverpool. Who knows? Never say never. But if Lampard is still in charge , I think we can all guess what will happen. So let’s give a new manager those 2 matches , to let him see what he has to work with. Then get into the next few teams after that.
Let’s go Everton. This sleep walking through matches stops now. I’m almost ashamed to actually support this crap. Almost, but I won’t give up just yet.
Up the Toffees. And last comment , Lampard out. Rant over.

Well, it's Sunday afternoon and Francis Lampard is still in situ as Everton manager despite overseeing Everton's worst-ever first 20 games in a Premier League season.

And people still believe we can stay up? Lol!

Time to wake up and smell the coffee, lads. You can talk about how close we are to the other relegation strugglers. You can say a few wins gets us out. You can say a new manager gets us out. But there is no plan. There is no leadership to develop one or execute one. There is a void at the heart of the club. The spiral is out of control.

Where is Port Vale on the map?
