Looked a lot more solid today and the shape works. Badly badly badly need some players who can score though, it’s not going to happen when you’re relying on Gray, Gordon, McNeil and Dele who scored a combined 11 goals last season between the four of them.

A forward and creative attacker please!

Has a big job on his hands...but he needs to start showing that he is capable of getting results...so far it's not great...yes he did no have strikers but he knew that as soon as we sold richy...

We had a bunch of chances to score. Mendy made two good saves, Silva blocked the Gray chance, Gray fecked up a 2 on 1, Dele could have hit it first time instead of taking a touch from the Patterson cross etc. If we had a DCL in there today we probably would have scored. Nothing wrong with the tactics today. We were playing against a team that were happy to time waste from the 55th minute and unfortunately due to injuries and incoming transfers we didn't have the players to take advantage/we had a player who made a rash challenge i.e individual error. Lampard did his job, now it's up to the players and backroom staff to do their job too.

It's not going to be easy for Lampard, but he benefits from the expectations being the lowest they've been for a long time. Avoiding a relegation battle will be seen as progress in most people's eyes.

If the defence can replicate what they did today against Villa next weekend we might be onto something in that area. Just gotta hope they have some idea about what can be done up front.
