2022/23 Frank Lampard

If we sign Maupay two weeks earlier then we have 5 more points imo, Lamps has been completely shafted by inaction
How? By magic? Because the Brighton donkey who scored a whopping 8 goals last season would be giving Haaland a run for his money??.....

Plus no one forced FL to put all his eggs in the DCL basket - he chose to do that and it was a rookie mistake by a rookie manager. We've spent the entire summer looking for midfielders 6&8 (understandably so) with not so much as a thought for a striker until Britney got injured. Yet again. (I know, I know, we're all supposed to believe it was "all part of the plan" and the club have been working night and day on trying to sign "the French Lewandowski" but I don't buy it).

It's not all on FL of course, but he is also not blameless. Striker should have been a top priority - not a backup, but a first choice proper No9. Instead we've got a nobody to "do a job" until DCL is fit for 5 minutes again with zero pressure on his place in the team. Very poor management all round IMO.

Not yet, fans are still living off his “Didn’t get relegated” trophy.

I guarantee by Xmas the majority here will be calling for him to be sacked.
TBF if we're on <20 points by the half way stage it's only logical and fair for major questions to be asked. Any manager of any team in that scenario will be under pressure and should be fearful of the sack. To think otherwise would be naive.

I have....
Super, can you link us up, love a bit of Dyche chat.

Back to Lampard. See, the reason he gets more leeway than say Benitez is because football is an emotional sport. Sure, there's room for looking at things logically and critically, but football is a heady mix of the two.

Benitez just caused a foul mood and didn't appeal to the heart. Logically he had many of the same issues as Lampard. But he was never an appointment to win hearts (or minds for that matter).

It is a really important factor. The sense Frank gets the club and isn't a koppite wrong un. Bobby Martinez also won hearts initially. Gets the fans buzzing and everyone onside (v important last season). Of course, when it's not going right the logic side comes in eventually.

We've had a meh start, let's see where we are when the window shuts and if things pick up.

So many straw men arguments in here it’s like foreverblert92 has set up a load of multis

I think I have seen the sum total of ONE poster who is convinced Lampard is a good manager and the right choice, yet some curiously OTT negative posters seem to believe we are all in love with him and think he can do no wrong

I’d be confident in saying that the vast majority right now would admit they haven’t a bloody clue whether he is good, average or Crap. I definitely don’t know. Couldn’t say either way right now.

They’d also admit he probably hasn’t done enough as manager to deserve the job in the first place

But he is here, and people are tired of the impatient need for instant results so the way I see it they are defending the current circumstances the manager is in rather than the manager himself

If he is here next season with a practically new team and our defense is still playing like that then yeah I can understand the tide turning even if personally I’d prefer just leave him so long as we aren’t in danger of relegation, but you’d have to have an agenda to be blasting him with both barrels when an almost completely reshaped defense isn’t yet clicking 4 fecking games in and we are struggling to score without a decent striker

He has managed us in very special circumstances last season, so personally speaking I’m not reading too much into what he did to get us to scrape over the line. This is the first proper season and I’m interested see how he does, but expectations are low. Give me 45pts say with hopefully no real worry about relegation and I’m happy to let it play out.

Maybe expectations is the problem with some of these posters. If you are expecting only improvements on last season whilst finishing bottom half then it would be a bit silly freaking out after 4 league games and it’s easy to take in these games and look for signs of improvement. If you are expecting top half and can’t understand why we don’t look great so far and see it as reason to blast the boss, then I don’t know what club you have been watching stumbling through the last few seasons…

Insinuating Lampard is the next Kendall.
Give it a rest mate.

Stuff like this just stifles actual discussion and nuanced opinions because we end up in a situation where everyone takes exaggerated stances in order to be seen as either ‘for’ or ‘against’.

I want lampard to succeed, I like some of the things he’s doing (trying to play more football for one) and I like how he comes across. I also have some reservations about him and think we’re getting to the point where he’s got to start showing some tangible signs of things getting better
