I don’t really understand that. Surely the wide players in the front of a 433 are by definition wingers?

442 or 352 you’re playing with wide midfielders as opposed to wingers.
It doesn't have to be wingers in a 433 - that would be one way to use the system: left footer on the left, right on the right and have them both cross balls into the box. The RS have played 433 for years but Salah and Mane are prime examples of inside forwards; they cut inside, the wing backs over lap. Richy was our inside forward, but he's gone and we have a few bang average wingers to fill the gap and wing/full backs who dont really offer an attacking threat (NP aside).

This is also the correct way to play 4-3-3 in 2022. Having our wingers hold the width takes the fullbacks out of the game and puts us in a position to have basically 5 players on our attack. It's a poor way to play.

I think the improvement in midfield is becoming a bit of a myth, im not sure we've improved all that much there to be honest. Was woeful last night, was really disappointed with it.
Would argue it's improved on an individual, technical quality perspective (and I hate to talk about the midfield's "potential"), but as a unit it does look like it's just not connected/connecting yet. A bit mismatch. No one seems 100% set in their job and role. The pieces are all there but it's just not quite clicking.

Nah there's way more quality than we're seeing. Not saying top half or anything but we've been 20th place the last 3 games.
Well we lost our best player last season and the only other 2 who did anything in Iwobi and Gordon have gone full MIA.

Not making excuses for the manager, its his job to get results and hes not doing that, but when Demz Gray is your best attacking player, you are in serious, serious trouble.

We will never go where we want to until we find a manager who sees his job as making the team better. The results will come with that. But we aren't good enough to not prioritize getting better first.

If the league ever implements a system where they give points for performance then we can worry about them.

Till then, this league is all about points.
