Palace still play Joel Ward and Jordan Ayew. Brighton use Danny Welbeck. That Newcastle side last night started Murphy and a Longstaff. So yes.

Brighton haven’t had an instant improvement though? They’re yet to win since their new manager came in. Newcastle have one of the best midfielders in the league playing for them who runs their entire team. Both of those Palace players are comfortably better than Coleman and McNeil. So no actually.

Newcastle last night apart from a 15 minute spell before the break were pathetic. They were there to be beaten not just to take a point off.

They wanted that game to end at HT because they were clueless and had nothing else to offer. We dominated long spells of that game because Newcastle stood off us, but we had no intelligent movement to exploit it.
I would argue that Newcastle did not have to exert themselves or try any harder than they actually did to be beat us. Why play at 100% full on if you can beat Everton with 50% effort. They were certainly not pathetic. That description sits with us.

If the league ever implements a system where they give points for performance then we can worry about them.

Till then, this league is all about points.
And we need a manager who understands points aren't a magic thing that just appear and that you actually can go through a process to make your team better at picking them up.

Oh God we're at the Joel Ward is good phase. It's bleak around here.

No, they were all out for the win. They looked short on energy to me. They were there for the taking, just hanging on.

And btw our lot were pathetic in the time added on....6 minutes when they barely got the ball out of their own half of the pitch. We should have seen the ball getting launched every opportunity to put them under pressure...they were definitley edgey.

I dont see what else Lampard can do, personally.

Sure a different manager could get better performances, im not claiming hes getting the best from the side, im just not sure what his options are.

I see no room for improvement in the way we set up.

Last night for example was probably our best side, Patters aside.

But anyway, not making excuses, as I say, RESULTS and performances are lacking, for now only 1 of those things matter.

The press doesn't connect and the players don't combine. We leave space for teams to play in but can't create any for ourselves. These are the areas the manager has to try to fix. I'm not saying I could do it but they are issues as a team not with individuals and that is where managers matter.

Over half the teams in the league will have periods when they're not playing well and/or not getting results. We've not been at our best lately, and we've played three good sides.

When Bournemouth had an off day, they get tonked 9-0 by the RS. Watch what happens if Fulham have a bad display/day vs one of the top 6. They'll get chased 5-0 or something.

If these recent performances are as bad as it gets, then we'll be okay.

Over the last few years, I've always felt like even if we're not getting results, but we're out of the relegation zone, as long as we are showing signs of improvement, we should stick with our manager and players. in the context of the rot that started setting in during Koeman's time, and the kind of players, academy work and lack of attention to detail and standards, it seems like we are still on track, even if it is really depressing again. Lampard and Thelwell are doing what most people felt should have been done (in hindsight) in 2017 - behind the scenes, better recruitment, more investment in youth. We are one creative player, or just a few goals away from a good run. As the boss likes to stay 'Levels' - if the players play to their levels I think we're going to do better. We need more from our full backs - I do think Mykolenko and Coleman are not creative enough, and feel like Niels and Patterson will be more attacking if they can gel with the rest and improve their service. (No idea whether there's a plan for Niels or Vinagre) I feel like the midfield are far more positive in moving the ball around than the previous midfields of 2018-21, but don't have that extra creative edge. and just 2 weeks ago, we were raving about Pickford, Tarko and Coady. So things are definitely looking up, but we just dont seem to have any goals or providers for DCL.
We may get lucky this year, without many players at the World Cup, and have a better time post-January.

I agree with both those posts - not much more Lampard can do, and we are not rolling over like we have done in the past 5 years. Are we even slightly better than last year - yes! Hopefuly int he 2nd half of the season when everyone has gelled more, we'll be even better. Need more from any combintion of the front 6
Gray-Gordon-DCL-Maupay-Townsend-McNeil - not many goals there, but maybe they just need to have a spark or something to boost their confidence.
