2022/23 Frank Lampard

They would have to agree, no doubt on that.

Some of your earlier stuff about Martinez spending 160 million is way off, he never spent close to that.

Also, has quite a few people keep mentioning when defending Lampard, what was the net spend??? We sold the likes of Felli for decent money which paid for his first summer splash.

There was money in football then, but unfortunately Everton were proper paupers then who would take loans out against future tv revenue money with spurious companies based in the Cayman Islands.
Yeah, I just googled martinez spend everton and it was the figure that came up. But going through all the transfers, it was around 100m I believe. I don't care about net spend at all.

The claims he couldn't replace the defence are rubbish though. The poster saying he couldnt afford to replace 2 CBs, DM, back up striker and wingers.

He spent 23m on Niasse, Kone and Tarashaj and he literally gave Wigan over 20m for their players who had just been relegated.

He lived off a Moyes defence in that first season and never tried to replace it. That's on him.

If/when the club do decide to give Lampard the boot they'd better have a decent replacement already lined up.

The usual caretaker for a month whilst we choose between a bunch of has beens and never was's won't do.

Admittedly we aren't a particularly appealing prospect so that's easier said than done granted, but unless we can get a real upgrade we may as well stick.

So my worry is this, as a club we do not have any foresight in terms of planning. We should ALWAYS have a line of potential successors ready to approach, but we dont, we dont know what we are as a club anymore and most definitely do not have a set style which we work to when approaching managers.

I would hope we do this from now on, if Lampard goes, then we bring someone in who is potentially a better tactician but still has the same philosophy at heart.

We are awful as a club at future state planning, instead we react and panic.

Not that I want Lampard sacked, I think he has earned a bit more time even if the stats and the form most definitely say otherwise - but I see Gallardo has left River... One can dream.

Isn't that a bit of a contradiction though? We don't know what we are as a club anymore or have a style...because we change managers every 18 months.

At the moment we have an entire new starting 11 that have played probably less that 20 games together (including friendlies). A back new back 4. New midfield. New attack (if you disregard Dom for Maupes). And that is gonna change again when we add in January.

We should expect it to be bumpy.

I think from the perspective mate of the haphazard approach of our managers for the last 5/6 years.

Each has had a different style, brought in the players they wanted rather then players who fit a system. Which has led to a mishmash squad.

A proper DOF should dictate how the club aspires to play football from top to bottom, and then brings in managers who suit that style.

My hope that is the way Frank wants to play football, if he leaves we get a manager who aspires to that style of football but is the next level up, rather then go and get Dyche who wants to play football we dont have the squad for.

Clearly the style and level he wants is the Palace game. It's finding the consistency to play that way.

Personally find it more difficult to bring in someone else in the process of finding a style in the middle of a rebuild, especially with no finances because it's geared towards a certain way.

I agree we chopped and changed with no idea previously. But that was in a bubble of it being a £500mill squad with £100k a week players and all it needed was a top class manager. Which was completely wrong.

In fairness, one of those Wigan players was McCarthy who was excellent in that first season. Injuries got the better of him which was a real shame.

The balance that squad has in his first season was incredible, solid back 4 with Coleman and Baines at fullback then Barry and McCarthy ahead of them in the midfield letting Barkley, Mirallas, Deulofeu and Lukaku link up in attack.

He's been brilliant for Belgium. I like to think he's learned from what he did wrong as Everton manager.
I'm not even sure that is true to be fair, what has he won, with THAT team..?

I get i've got a total dislike for him, but he was the start of the reason we are where we are, well in my view anyway.

I'm still trying fathom how he managed to beat city to win the cup with wigan..

To me he's just not what we need. The way he would want to play, we simply do not have the players, talent or otherwise to be able to do it. He isn't pragmatic enough.. That said he'll end up at Barcelona probably...
