Imagine a guy living in his mom's basement watching us play on an illegal stream on a laptop thinking he knows more about how to set up a team to play in the most competitive league in the world then a manager getting 6 million a year to do so.
Walter mitty wasn't as delusional

You forget to throw in, consumption of a lot of strong amphetamine too.

Just ‘gone for it’ more.

It’s dead easy. If Frank just said these words more at half time we’d probably just win every game.

The thing is, this is the big mistake Benitez made. He decided to surrender the ball, and opt for some very offensive counter attacking game, while ignoring set peices. And we got found out. It was completely UnBenitez like as well, the great pragmatist.

We had a go at attacking v United and got experienced.

Coady and Tarkowski have been excellent, but you cant have them playing like Ramos and Varane. However much you might want them to be, it is going to end horribly.

The biggest mistake we have made in the last 10 years, is the assumption we are above doing the basics that 10+ teams do every season to survive. The best managers in that time have been Ancelotti and Allardyce, who have at least grasped the problem.

It's a painful message to take on board. I'd love us to play like Peps Barcelona, but honestly I just want us to win as often as possible.

I don't think he's responsible for Gray being the worst decision maker I've ever seen.

I do think Gray has enough natural ability beyond that to do more than what we're seeing from him.

And fwiw none of the forwards make good decisions. Now they all have previous for that but as manager you might want to try and work on it.
So you want a manager to "fix" Gray in 6months?

Not to pick on Gray, by the way.

But he aint ever getting fixed. Im not offering this as an excuse, but as ive said before, we play Palace and we look like we can form attacks, we then play Fulham and for 45minutes it was like the players have never touched a ball.

You also have to move past that. Maybe we aren't ready today, idk, but you can't just be a basics team forever or you will go down.

The thing is though, that front 3 cost about 2 million pounds.

They are going to be erratic. They could be better. But they wont be world beaters. Gordon gets a lot of stick, but Gray is a bit fortunate to be starting over McNeil or Maupay.

DCL, injury free is a 50m Striker, Gordon we potentially could have got 30m for in the Summer, Demz we could maybe get 15m.

Its not a 2million pound Strike force, despite what it cost.

I think there are things in the managers control that cause these spells to happen.

The thing is though, you probably wont go down, but you will hit a ceiling. My point would be, that ceiling is will in tbe distance for us currently, and we may as well take the easy wins.

We also have to acknowledge, with this board, we are not going to adopt the sort of high risk approach required to gamble to win. So essentially it's just taking on huge downside risk, for very little upside. That's kind of sad to admit, and I hope we are taken over, but until we are, that's the paradigm I see.

I also think, long term, if you want to succeed, continuity helps enormously.

Frank is a middling manager who is doing his best to improve a crap squad. We have improved but still have players in the first team squad who are not up to the standard required to maintain a mid table position. Roll on January for the next window.

The way we play currently we will go down. It doesn't have to be this year or next, but one year the breaks won't come from all these tight knife edge affairs and we end up on the wrong end. This can't last forever. It didn't last forever for Pulis, nor Sam, nor Bruce and that is the company Lampard is keeping right now.

Edit: How could I forget Dyche. Didn't happen for him either.

That's fair, and a good counter point. Lampard should be getting better from the front players.

I'm just not going to gamble on them coming good by jettisoning the good shape we have. They need to be more consistent within those confines.

Gray never will. Gordon may do.

I dont know about doing better.

I like all 3 of them, for me our attacks dont break down due to the system, its people cant make 5 yard passes most of the time, I have no idea how its possible, but no amount of coaching will change it.

Basically im not blaming the manager or the players, its an Everton thing.
