Fulham v Juve

Torres, 3-0.

Lille look the most inept team in away big euro games since, well probably us really.

I entirely agree. Disgusting performance from Lille tonight. I can't believe I'm saying this, but the RS deserve to be in the next round after this awful performance from the French.

Sure they'd argue that they have in fact done more than we ever have mate.

villa having won the european cup & super cup, also intertoto.
spurs the uefa twice and also the cup winners cup.

I wasn't saying that in an historical context but in terms of their current team with their current managers. We're in the same boat. It's all about champs league nowdays. If teams can't really do much in a lesser European competition, there's not much hope in a stronger champs league competition. So when spurs and villa treat the Europa league as a burden, I find it weird.

Italian football (inter apart) is dead. Full of ageing players, and mediocre youngsters.

Article in the paper today. This season, out if all the times English teams have played Italian teams, the english have only one 3. United twice and tonight.
Liverpool lost twice to Fiorentina
Chelsea lost twice to Inter
Fulham at least never beat Roma, but I cant remember the score

But yeah, in generall italian teams are a bit [Poor language removed] and a bit ageing.

I hope Benfica spank them, it will be a bit embarrassing for us if they don't.

Benfica, oddly enough, are on terrific form at the moment. Their last defeat was November 22nd in the Portuguese Cup to Guimaraes (1-0 was the final score). Since that loss, they've won 17 and drawn 6 in all competitions. In that span of 23 games, their goal differential is +36.

All of that in mind, I think the RS are going to have a very tough time with Benfica. :)

And Valencia/Atletico Madrid if they get past Benfica. It just got a whole lot harder than Unirea and Lille.

Unirea was a quality side tbh. I mean, you don't get 8 points in a Champions League Group stage if you aren't a good side. Not to mention the way they got those 8 points was that they absolutely demolished Rangers at Ibrox, beat Sevilla 1-0 (that is an accomplishment in itself), got a late equalizer with Rangers at home to force a draw, and even pulled off a draw with Stuttgart. I mean, how are you not a good side with results like that?

As for Lille, they're 4th in France at the moment, separated from leaders Bordeaux by just two points! I mean, that in no way is a weak side! Sure, they rolled over on Thursday at Anfield, but they gave the RS a run for their money in the first leg. To be honest, they probably didn't really give it their all yesterday because they were focusing on a huge game against Bordeaux on Sunday in what is a very heated race at the top of the table in France, where the top six teams are separated by three points or less from one another in a league that only has three Champions League spots open! They have greater priorities than Europa, which I fully understand. Why win Europa now when you can play in the Champions League next year with a win on Sunday?

Look, the RS weren't playing bad teams at all the last two Europa League ties. However, they'll be playing a much better team in Benfica than when they were pitted against Unirea and Lille.
