Ulster GAA have announced there will be no McKenna cup next year. Disappointing news even if it has lost most of its appeal over recent years. I always loved the game at the start of January to blow the Christmas cobwebs away.
It’ll be a short and happy winter in Armagh but I will miss the McKenna Cup nonetheless. Hopefully our club U21 season takes us well into October to give us something to get out of the house for though!Sad, but makes sense there is a hell of a lot games being squeezed into the schedule then Sigurson, Club could still be going, County training loads building up and build up to leauge.
Don’t know about Ulster, but the gate for O’Byrne games goes into a player fund to help during injuries. Maybe that time has passed now Counties are so well set up.
The new schedules a mess in my opinion.
Championship should finish up the end of August in my opinion.
It’s a long winter (for some of us)!
Strange that there's no Derry players but they had a desperate championship in all reality. Good to see Louth players being rewarded for an excellent year.Sean Kelly(mad like one of the finest ballers in the country, captains 2 final appearances and no All-star), Gleeson, Soupy, murnin and mackin all harshly omitted and not a single Derry player. Short memories, with club etc Glass would have been a POY nominee with a semi-final appearance.Armagh claim 11 nominees as McCambridge vies for FOTY
All-Ireland champions Armagh have raked in 11 All-Star nominations, with Barry McCambridge nominated for the PwC GAA-GPA Footballer of the Year award.www.rte.ie
Lennon for Louth should take that spare half-back slot instead of Mogan. Swap the jerseys and it wouldn't be up for debate.Strange that there's no Derry players but they had a desperate championship in all reality. Good to see Louth players being rewarded for an excellent year.
Derry will be licking their lips. Not that the Derry board have seen such sense in the last 12 months but they should steer well clear.
Rory Gallagher: Former Derry GAA manager intends to return
Former Derry GAA manager Rory Gallagher intends to return to inter-county management after successfully challenging his debarring in Februarywww.bbc.com
I fear you're probably right. I'd say he wouldn't pass Garda vetting if he wanted to coach a kids team but he'll be clapped back into the most senior position in the county.Derry will be licking their lips.
Derry see themselves as so close to Sam that they would sell their soul for it. Micky Harte a prime example but bringing back Gallagher would take it to a whole new level.I fear you're probably right. I'd say he wouldn't pass Garda vetting if he wanted to coach a kids team but he'll be clapped back into the most senior position in the county.
Much harder to book our week in Benidorm though mate.Mad that it would have been All Final weekend, either last week or this up to a couple of years ago.
We need to extent the Championship season again - the end of Aug i think is a nice middle ground.
