Transfer Rumour Gabriel (Lille)

Just to add to the above, there’s not many DOFs can spend 200 mill in their first two summers at a mid table side. Sounds to me like he’s had his hands tied up in knots.

People will still be blaming Walsh/Koeman when Richarlison is old enough to retire.

Brands gets away with murder with the fanbase.

If he was called Mike Bassett he would be taken to task by our fans and the Red Echo.

Same as Silva hoodwinked alot of fans and even Moshiri by having a sexy foreign name and looking smooth - again if he had been named Martin Smith no one would have entertained him.

Pretty sure most people know and acknowledge Brands has made mistakes, mate.

It's just with this particular deal there's a lot of play and it isn't just down to Brands wanting to renogatiate.

For one, that'll be a club stance and he's working on behalf of the club, and it seems to have been a decision taken because of an unprecedented global pandemic which screwed a lot more up than football transfers.

The real problem is people constructing their own narratives based on nothing other than hearsay, unsubstantiated rumours and pure BS.
In most cases people selectively choose which pieces of dubious information they intertwine with half truths to confirm and reinforce their already obvious prejudices .
We actually know next to nothing about our real transfer manoeuvrings, and are in no position to judge the performance of Brands in this transfer window until we have genuine information from reliable sources and see the actual results of our dealings when the window finally closes in October.
None of which will stop the empty posturing , endless fume and dreary pontificating which, for some , substitutes for informed debate.

Load of fantasist attention seeking bishes in here today. always

As I understand it we are not prepared to pay over 22m for Gabriel who is supposed to be one of the best c/bs in Europe and only 22 years old plus could be a real investment for the next ten years but we are prepared to pay 30 million for a 29 year old midfielder. I admit we do need midfielders most of all but are we prepared to let this opportunity go. I am beginning to have real droughts about Brands.
We have young cbs with plenty of promise already. We have a 25 year old cb in Mina who showed well this year when healthy. A 23 year old in Holgate who was one of the best at the club this past season and has already proven to be premier league quality. And an 18 year old monster in the making in Branthwaite who already looks the part. Gabriel is an expensive risk coming from the French league. If we’re deciding to invest in cb vs midfield, right back, or the wings, it’s just not a priority.

Agree. Mina, Holgate, Keane, and Branthwaite is a * decent * unit compared to our festering wound of a midfield.

Questions all around. Mina has trouble staying healthy. Holgate had 3/4 of a great season but is still inexperienced and he might not sustain it. Keane was arguably our best player in the COVID games (low bar) but Good Keane shows up less often that Bad Keane. Branthwaite is a baby.

Still, if focus on Gabriel means not filling a position of need elsewhere, let's drop it.

Money is not the only finite commodity in this compressed window. There's also the time and attention of Brands and staff. It's only physically possible to initiate and close X number of deals. We've seen this before. The pursuits of Sigurdsson and Zaha sucked all of the energy out of those respective windows. Let's cut bait on this guy if it means that Brands isn't on the phone for a good attacking mid.

Admins, a request.

Please make this a sticky at the top of EVERY SINGLE TRANSFER THREAD.

Leon Bailey also trending as he is supposedly in London. Spurs fans seem to think it’s to sign for them
It’s funny how Arsenal & spurs both have no money Apparently. And now are linked with loads of players

Spurs again have quite a few wide players, so will be interesting to see what happens.

I’ve watched him 3 times, he was great every time.

I do really believe we’ve dropped a terrible clanger here, if he signs for Arsenal this time next year we will be thinking why didn’t we pay the extra £3-5 Million.

I just find it incredible if he was over for a medical in Feb that we didnt tie it up then.

He's going to be in that Brazil team soon and his value will be insanely high.

Lets see who he goes to and who we sign.

What else would we have we to do in the close season.
What you say makes sense but doesn't sound fun at all plus this forum would be a graveyard without the emotion and theatrics of a tenuous transfer rumour.

.
Doesn't it wear you down though?

It makes me miss the pre-internet days.

Football Manager also has a LOT to answer for.

I take it all with a smile on my face watching people meltdown on here is so much fun.
Pre internet was newspapers, ceefax and calls to teamtalk oh how I miss those days.

FM and post internet culture in general full of cry arses and opinionated attention seekers. Probably a discussion left for another day.
