Transfer Rumour Gabriel (Lille)

By summer 2022 there will have been 19 players out of contract in both 21 and 22 summers.

Thats surely got to be the sweetspot for Ancelotti.
It may have to be.

It can't be understated just how poor the recruitment of the previous regime was. There were some successes, like Gana, DCL. To a lesser extent Pickford and Keane, but both, whilst extremely unpopular with the fans, haven't done that bad IMO and we could fetch decent fees for them. But the rest of them have been a waste of space and money.

I do realise that we had agreed a higher fee before a global pandemic impacted footballing revenues, distorting the value of the market and resulting in clubs having less money to spend. Yes, I do.

His value pre-COVID is not the same as his value post-COVID.

Think about it this way, back in February you had an offer accepted on a house. Then COVID happened and it got put on hold. Now, its back on but house prices are generally lower than what they were back in Feb and also, unfortunately, due to the pandemic you have had to take a pay cut.

The house is not quite as affordable anymore, if you overpay for the house, you don't have the income to cover your new car that you also need to buy to continue going to work.

Would you not try to renegotiate your offer?

In theory you are right mate but football hasn't worked out that way.

Napoli are paying near £70 million for a CF
Ake has gone to City for £40 million
Rumours of Lewis Dunk off for £40 million

If a club came in for Richarlison we wouldn't suddenly accept £70 million if we wanted £100 million in January we would just keep him for the season.

If an average Joe fan can see that then why cant the architect who's paid handsomely to get deals for the club over the line?

Not saying this is over btw as it isn't and we are still in the running but Brands continues to show naivety in the market.

The latter.
Same here. And 9 out of 10 of every post I'm seeing in here falls into that category. There may be 2 or 3 posters who I can see are prolific in the number of posts they are making, but I already have them on ignore. But at the end of the day they are the noisy minority. The majority of people in here are posting sensible posts.

I get you but look at each individual case:

Firstly, Gabriel is unproven in a more competitive league so there is an element of risk. Secondly, Lille need to sell players therefore they aren't in a strong position and this impacts the value of their players.

Secondly is our position. We have limited budget and a number of key areas to improve. We also don't have any high-value assets we want to sell to raise funds. Therefore we aren't going to blow out budget on one player who may or may not work out.

In this deal, we have to use Lille's position to drive down the price and keep money aside for other areas of the team.

In terms of your examples:

We aren't actively trying to sell Richarlison, nor do we need too. Plus he is proven in the prem and has recently signed a new contract. His value is secure.

Ake. I mean we're talking City here. Plus, again, proven in the prem. You could argue they would have got more had they not been relegated.

Napoli have blown all their budget on one player. Any more signings, including Gabriel, are based on selling one of their best players to City for nearly £100m.

Lewis Dunk isn't really for sale. Chelsea want him. He is English and Prem proven so comes at a premium.

We'd have moved on a long time ago if that was the case.

When negotiations started, other clubs like Arsenal and Napoli might not have wanted him.

Whether we like it or not, we're not the most attractive proposition and Ancelotti wanting a player is an endorsement agents will leverage elsewhere.

As I said on here a while back;
I think if a team who can offer European football comes in we are sunk. Don't think working with Ancelotti is the draw we think it is.

So he's either good and we've lost out

Or

He's crap and we've dodged a bullet - which in consequence would be another mark against the recruitment eye of Mr Brands

Which one is it?

You cant say you aint bothered by us missing out on a highly rated good young player who has been one of our main targets for months otherwise your expectations of the club must be very low.

Or is this another one of those "Rom aint all that we can spread the goals around the team" type statement?

mate I’m not the type to get my panties all wet by transfers any more, they either join or they don’t.

If they do, whoopee, if they don’t i honestly couldn’t give a toss.
