In theory you are right mate but football hasn't worked out that way.
Napoli are paying near £70 million for a CF
Ake has gone to City for £40 million
Rumours of Lewis Dunk off for £40 million
If a club came in for Richarlison we wouldn't suddenly accept £70 million if we wanted £100 million in January we would just keep him for the season.
If an average Joe fan can see that then why cant the architect who's paid handsomely to get deals for the club over the line?
Not saying this is over btw as it isn't and we are still in the running but Brands continues to show naivety in the market.
I get you but look at each individual case:
Firstly, Gabriel is unproven in a more competitive league so there is an element of risk. Secondly, Lille need to sell players therefore they aren't in a strong position and this impacts the value of their players.
Secondly is our position. We have limited budget and a number of key areas to improve. We also don't have any high-value assets we want to sell to raise funds. Therefore we aren't going to blow out budget on one player who may or may not work out.
In this deal, we have to use Lille's position to drive down the price and keep money aside for other areas of the team.
In terms of your examples:
We aren't actively trying to sell Richarlison, nor do we need too. Plus he is proven in the prem and has recently signed a new contract. His value is secure.
Ake. I mean we're talking City here. Plus, again, proven in the prem. You could argue they would have got more had they not been relegated.
Napoli have blown all their budget on one player. Any more signings, including Gabriel, are based on selling one of their best players to City for nearly £100m.
Lewis Dunk isn't really for sale. Chelsea want him. He is English and Prem proven so comes at a premium.
