That's about as fair a summary of the whole situation as I've read.

It would have been great to get him in, but that midfield takes priority with regards to transfers, followed by goal keeper/ right wing and full backs. I dare say we probably should get a better striker in before prioritising a central defender.

He’s the sort of signing we need to be making once we’ve sorted our midfield and right side out. CB, GK and striker will he needed to take us to the next level but for the moment there are other priorities.

He was a transfer target and fans evidently still wish to discuss it. Hence the replies.

He hasn't signed for another club yet.

Vast majority of transfer rumour threads dont result in a transfer, we've never closed them based on a moderators instinct of the probability of a transfer. To be fair I have never heard of the lad until he was signing for us in March. But with this media attention and his agent trying to get him the best deal money wise (which I don’t blame him for) I am glad we walked away.
