Transfer Rumour Gabriel (Lille)

Can’t be pinning out defensive hopes on a 18 year old, he’s got lots to learn and it wouldn’t be fair on him.

If we get Gabriel I would loan him out to a Championship Club who will offer him constant playing time and a team who sets up similarly to us, well how we hope we will play when Carlo sorts us out.

If not sell Keane as he’s English and has parts of him game he really does excel at and would suit a team who plays a deeper line.
We wouldn’t be pinning our hopes on him. He would train with the first team Under Ancelotti (I’ll say that again cos it’s great- under Ancelotti) and get cameo roles here and there.

He would be available in a crisis.

if he does go out on loan, i would hope Gibson makes the squad.

I think Branthwaite is still to young to go out on loan.
I think he will train with the seniors and mostly play with the under 23s and probably get some minutes now and then in the first team.
As with any young lad he could easily make some silly mistakes that could cost us.
We don't want to heap that kind of pressure on him, we can see with some of the older players that pressure can get to them.

My issue with that is, we've seen it where the lads don't get the time, and then we've seen it where they do, and the team is a show.

Look at Pennington and Bowler at Hull. Pennington won't make it at Everton, clearly, but if we were relying on him to come back, the lad would be a broken one. I'm cautious about loans. Holgate to West Brom was perfect. But if we get one who play "nice" football, but get smashed, it won't help.

I'd personally keep him around, the way Ancelotti sets up, is a more defensively minded way, being in around those tactics and training, even if he's a sub, will do him loads of good. We've seen this year with Mina, Keane and Holgate that lads do get injured, so if he rides it out, he'd probably get 10 or so games next year, plus some in the cup.

I put a link up this morning regarding Napoli signing Osihmen and him being non EU and that they would have to sell one to buy him.
And I’ve just read that in 2010 the Italian League changed the rules regarding non EU players and that Italian clubs can only Sign one EU player each season.

does anyone know how true this is, or has the rule changed. Because surely that would mean they couldn’t sign both osihmen & Gabriel. Though it does seem strange that journalists have tweeted that the double deal was nearly done, surely they would know the rule.

Well, last season they signed Lozano and Ospina.

Maybe Ospina has a Spanish passport?

The four Italian professional levels have different rules about non-EU signings: Lega Pro teams from both divisions may not buy any non-EU players. It does not matter if the club selling the non-EU player is Italian. In Serie B, teams can only buy non-EU players from Italian teams of all levels. Serie A has a detailed set of rules as follows:
If a Serie A club had none or just one non-EU player in the roster on the 30th of June 2013, the club is entitled to buy non-EU players from foreign clubs until the limit of three is reached, without any restriction.
If a Serie A club has exactly two non-EU players in the roster on the 30th of June 2013, the club is entitled to buy one non-EU player from a foreign club without any restriction, until the limit of three is reached. Furthermore, the club can buy one additional non-EU player from a foreign club, provided that he replaces a non-EU player on at least one of these conditions:
  1. the replaced player is sold to a foreign club
  2. the replaced player’s contract expired on 30/06/2013
  3. the replaced player obtained European citizenship after the 1st of February 2013
If a Serie A club has three or more non-EU players in the roster on the 30th of June 2013, the club is entitled to buy two non-EU players from foreign clubs provided that both of them replace a non-EU player each on at least one of these conditions:
  1. the replaced player is sold to a foreign club
  2. the replaced player’s contract expired on 30/06/2013 (this condition can apply to only one of the replaced players)
  3. the replaced player obtained European citizenship after the 1st of February 2013
Serie A teams can buy non-EU players within the Italian transfer market with no restriction. Non-EU players that have been signed during the summer window may not be sold until the following window.

All Serie A rules apply to full transfers only, not loans. If a player is loaned out, even to a foreign club, he still counts against the club’s non-EU count.
