Transfer Rumour Gabriel (Lille)

We were interested. We backed off due to Covid uncertainty way back when per various reports. None of the usually reliable guys have suggested we have renewed interest that I have seen. This may be because a few weeks ago in a Dutch interview with De Telegraaf Brands implied (not stated baldy but certainly hinted) that priorities were changing (to CM and winger??).

It would make sense to me that with a lot of uncertainty over how much we can raise from sales & how much wage room we can free with loans we would need to try to address our biggest needs first. Gabriel might be right player, wrong time for us. I will not be surprised if we only loan a CB late window when the season has started as we have 4 with Branthwaite who though flawed are better than our CM options.

Paul Joyce in the Times in his article about our bid on Hojbjerg strongly referenced that we are still in for him and waiting to hear from the player. That was last week.

I think we are literally waiting like the other clubs.

I do feel a bit responsible for there not being a single trusted journo source for Everton on world's leading Everton frandsite FrandOldTeam.com.

Sorry @Connor

Hey guys,

Call me sauced.

Had word today we've booked a summer medical for Gabriel dos Santos Magalhães from Lille OSC.

For what it's worth, same source gave info on Gbamin last year.

Anyone got any idea if he's any good?
If he gave you Gbamin then no!

We'll know soon enough if we are still in for Gabriel or any other Brazilians that have returned home.
If Carlo wants them in for pre season ( mid August) they would have to be in the UK & self isolating for 14 days.
Doesnt leave much wiggle room.

Be the same for any players coming in from Spain as of yesterday.
Could be same for France , Germany etc.

This could end up being a farce signing players from abroad.

FFS didn’t even think of that self isolation scenario. Hurry up Brands you snake.

Yep ...gonna mess up a lot of transfers this.

Sure i saw a tweet/insta of Gabriel in Brazil a week or two ago.
There's a current travel ban/ restrictions to the UK from there.

You’d think/hope the club would have been trying to get deals done behind the scenes over the last few weeks/months but this is Everton and as per we’ll more than likely leave all to last minute and miss out on all our key targets.

If this is the number one defensive target, I’d rather they get it done rather than it fall through and put work into sorting out the second, third choice. By all accounts, we’ve been in for him since February so most of the leg work is done. Wrap this one up and then focus everything on a CM and a RW. They’re the most immediate problem (and I’m rapidly starting to believe GK too)

One would hope that they'd realize that we have one of the greatest managers ever and would get deals over the line. I think we will learn a lot about our club during this window
