Transfer Rumour Gabriel (Lille)

I'd keep Branthwaite around the first team for 6 months/a year before sending him out on loan. He's only been at the club since January. But yeah another loan for Gibson, at the end of it we can see if he's ready for the final step up.

Gibson should go on loan to a Championship club that he can play week in week out. He has two years left in his contract he needs to prove he is up to the job at least in the Championship.

The initial fee was supposedly £30mil. This has now been dropped in the media to £20-22mil.

A fee "far lower than anything quoted so far" would be as likely as you riding a unicorn to the moon.

"He would fall into the category of young player with potential but a risky signing nonetheless"

Thats a very peculiar statement to make. Militao went from Porto to Real for £43mil.

Gabriel is in the same bracket and has been strongly rumoured to be the next super centre back to push into the Brazil side.

100% agree...hed be our best centre back and one of our best players.

Another Richarlison.
He would be our best centre back... based on what ?

If he is the next Brazilian superstar then why is this transfer being spoken about for months with nothing happening and why is it that only Napoli and Everton continue to be linked.
He is a young player with potential, playing in a B grade league. There is absolutely nothing to suggest he would be our best centre half in what he has done in his career to date.
Keane, Holgate and Mina would all be top top players in that league.

Gibson should, but quite frankly I don’t want him going to someone like Wycombe where he’ll get a pasting every week.

Confidence is a massive thing for young lads, and as seen with his successful loan to Fleetwood, it worked wonder for him.
Rave reviews.

Questioj is for Gibson, is he going to be good enough for a top end a championship club? If so, get him out and get the experience.

All the arl fella's in the Park End will have heart attacks watching Gabriel & Holgate spraying the ball around the back whilst Mane & Salah make chase

If we are sending Gibson out on loan it should be to the German league like we've done with jonjoe.

That loan has added around 10m to his price tag and given him a year of experience playing against teams like bayern and dortmund ect. It's a win win.

Linked with PSG, Chelsea, Arsenal and United at some point depending on what/who you believe

Without watching every centre back in the French league consistently, this season hes been second to Marquinhos.

Marquinhos is a world class player theres no comparison with any of our centre backs. Id say that if Gabriel played for PSG it would have been very close who would have been better.

So to summarise, youre welcome to disagree if you believe Keane/Mina would be in the top echelons of that leagues performers.

Personally i think its a bit strange to claim that a player with frequent injuries or a player who cant turn would be useful in france.

Again, if we signed Marquinhos then everyone on this forum would believe he would be one of the best in the league, if not the very best. If Gabriel was very close to his level last season then surely it shows hed walk into the team.

Again, to compare with Keane especially is bewildering...Mina (who i like) is injury prone.

Theres just no comparison.

Napoli, Arsenal, PSG, United and more all linked.

Not only us and Napoli.

I have seen other names thrown in , I have seen Liverpool mentioned, but they just looked like names thrown in to make a story as ours often is.

There are plenty of really good players in France and Gabriel may in time prove to be a great player but the fact remains that at this time he is a young player learning his trade and the step up in challenge coming from France(which is really a one club league) to the premiership will be enormous.
We have seen with lots of players coming from that league that there is a long settling in period while they get used to the demands of the Premiership.

I believe that will be the case with Gabriel, a player who could turn out to be excellent but there is nothing to suggest he would immediately become our best player in his position.

In that caae which areas of Gabriels game are weaker than Keane / Mina?

Germany is a 1 club league, spain 2 club league same as here...

You only find out a players strengths and weaknesses when they are playing against top class opposition.
I wonder how many of the French clubs would survive in the Premiership apart from PSG?
Last summer Ndombele and Pepe came to the Premiership from France, both player rated far higher than Gabriel and I think it fair to say they had very average seasons.
I have no doubt that in time one or both may turn out to have great careers in England when they get settled and understand the demands of the Premiership.

Gabriel is like that for me. A player that I would love to see us sign but I simply don't believe that he would immediately become our best centre half... it doesn't work that way usually.

Fair enough, we can agree to disagree. I cant see anything in Keane (for example) which is superior.

Lets see how it goes...
