Has he got a bit of pace that might allow us to play a little higher up the pitch

On the vids I've watched he looks like he's got cracking pace.

Him and Holgate together would have the potential to be an excellent pairing and could certainly push a little higher up the pitch.

Then imo we'd deffo be in a position to offload Keane or Mina to balance the old books.

Im happy keeping Keane for when we need to sit deep.

I think Mina is the more likely to go tbh

Wouldn't surprise me either way fb. Mina due to his poor injury record. Keane due to 2 years left on his contract. So we either punt him this year, offer him a new deal or let him leave with 1 year remaining (where I'd be surprised if anyone offers what we did to Burnley)

If it was a straight choice between the 2 I'd rather keep Mina but his injury record is a massive concern and Keane certainly knuckled down post lock down (though imo that's more to do with the deep like we were playing suited him nicely)

I hope we get him because even though the midfield is priority we still need to strengthen in defence, plus it’s an indicator we cash to spend.

I’m confused. We desperately wanted a centre half last year and everyone went mad when we didn’t get one, we’ve defended like a drain all year, and we ended the season with a lanky school kid filling in there next to a bloke everyone’s called a donkey for 3 years, and now people are surprised we want to sign a centre half?

I get your point. However we have been unlucky with injuries at CB (and virtually everywhere also) finishing the season with our 2 best CBs out, in Holgate and Mina. This compounded by Gbamin also being out virtually all season , who can also play there.

I think they’re maybe concerned at a distinct lack of firm links to people in the problem positions (mid, wing, RB, GK) more than that we’d buy a centre half.

It's likely, though, that we're only hearing about this one to the extent that we are because Joyce, Hunter etc were briefed on it back in February so publications covering Lille in France and Napoli in Italy are aware we're in for him.

The only positive was the emergence of a reinvigorated Holgate. But we can strengthen the defence for sure.

I’m not sure anyone gets briefed much now tbh. They all seem to get info the same time as the wider world.

You're probably right and I'm trusting my terrible memory but I'm sure they were the first to break that story which would point to some info coming from the club/ sources in Merseyside

Well yeah ideally we get a quality CB in but in front of them will still be Tom Davies and Gylfi Sigurdsson?
Perfect world we get it all sorted of course, but people wondering if the right areas of the team are being prioritised is understandable.

I don't understand how our fans think we'll be fine with 3 centre backs for another whole season. We wont be selling mina or keane.

Imagine if we did and then got Europe, we would have to buy another centre back again, it'd be silly. Our club won't have changed its mind on 100 mins of branthwaite.

The way I view it is we have 3 PL level CB’s and 1 PL level midfielder fit.

Say we only have £50m to spend this window I’m sure as Hell not buying a CB.
